Things GTA IV did better than GTA V

I sure hope this wont lead to another defensive and butthurt reply by @stoney thus derailing the thread again but i`ll mention it anyway:

The explosions. Everything about them, their sounds, their looks and their destructions felt alot more amazing in IV compared to V. The terrifying spread of fire, shrapnels and other materials were sure a fun to watch. Even tho V did improve the explosions for CG they still aren`t near as good as they were in IV.

And of course the motherf*cking RPG that really felt one mean terrifying weapon in IV but in V it looks, sounds and feels like a little child`s toy.

Then again we should ask ourselves "was anything actually better in V than in IV? Because as far as i can see (and it`s not just IMO but alot of people also feel this way) everything from the weapons, cars, boats and helicopters felt more "real" in IV. Whereas everything felt so toyish and feather-light in V. Everything was extremelly dumbed down for V and that`s what i find very sad.

Hell even the boats like jetmax or speeder were alot more fun to drive in IV because they had weight to them, they actually felt like heavy vessels instead of some toys.

Not to mention the helicopters that were a blasts to land and fly in IV but in V they felt almost like they were some toys guided via joystic, like those little models you put together from the box.

What I like about the explosions in GTA IV, is that if you're close to them, sometimes everything else gets quiet and you start to get that ringing sound for a little bit. Really awesome to hear in my opinion.

Whereas everything felt so toyish and feather-light in V.

....Until you run into another Vehicle on the road, in which the light feathers become a brick wall. But I agree, the Vehicles when on ground are brick walls, but then somehow the slightest decline/incline in the road, you get airborne and have this fake ass hang time as if your Vehicle is literally a feather. I can't wrap my head around how Vehicles act like that in V. It's all for that teenager crowd stunting community who drives around rainbow colored Vehicles and the occasional chromed out piece of sh*t. Tony Hawk Pro Skater, anyone? Shaun Palmer's Pro Snowboarder, anyone? Dave Mirra BMX, anyone? How such a great crime gaming series turned into a daycare for children is beyond me.

About the explosions, I like V's explosions, but like you said, I still find them better in IV and the ringing in the ears of Niko like gamesboy has said is really cool, too.

The Dedito Gae

You can grab ledges and shimmy, i will never understand why that was removed, it just feels really lazy, they already have a nice platform in IV, there wasn't a reason to start over again with V mediocre gameplay.

IV's gameplay s not perfect, the gameplay needs to be refined but not scrapped.

Something IV does is take itself seriously. That's risky, because in video games, you can't always do that. But they did. Check out the Niko Bellic trailer when compared to say, Trevor's character trailer. Two people who are mentally ill, suffered so much throughout their lives, yet the tones are so much different. IV feels human. V is disconnected from reality.

We see Niko confess to the viewer why he is who he is, in a tone of reflection. Prepares you for stepping into his shoes. Making the murdering harder to deal with.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGzESshMaUY

It's so hard to take Trevor seriously, he's a parody of himself, of what he is supposed to be. Brilliantly portrayed, yet the way he is presented is flawed - he is not an actual psychopath you can get into, he's like a 40 year old edgy teenager you'd see on /b/. That could have worked, he could have been a man who runs on impulses, instead he feels like some joke that was once funny but is overplayed so much that it just isn't funny anymore. The day the series recovers from V is the day they realize that RDR, IV, they're both masterpieces, and that the GTA series is a platform for the Housers to write amazing stories.

I completly agree with everything said, but Trevor is not the main protag, the comparison should be with Michael, Trevor should be compared with Luis or TBOGT.

Michael is the soul of V but i find him to be the more unlikable gta protagonist ever, we are supposed to care about him and his family but they re just a bunch of hateful stereotypical pricks, they are a parody of a sheltered rich family, i honestly don't give ash*t about any of them, Michael is always so fake and hypocritical , i really dread every part i have to play as him, Niko/Johnny and even Luis are likable human beings with flaws, i actually care about Roman and the bond with his cousin feels real, when Roman loses his bussiness and home i felt (feel) bad for him, when Michal's family leaves, i didn't care, i kinda felt relieved for him, and the little family "therapy" was cringe worthy to say the least, even for someone like me, he's supposed to get along with them now that he insulted his wife?

A little airance of grievances, the f*ck was that?

Was it so hard to come up with family members who are not hateful in every way?

Roman is a fat sex pest gambling addict but he's actually lovable, he's positive, friendly, funny and actually cares about Niko, they compliment each other really well, Jimmy is just a entitled spoiled wigger, Tracy is a spoiled slut and Amanda is just a joke of a unfaithful wife, Michael relationship with them is more a suitable remake of Married With Children than a follow up of IV, the only moment i felt they care about Mike is when i choosed B in other save to see their reaction.

Trevor is just a poorly written excuse of a psychopath, i admit i like the character , fight me, but is depressing to think he shares the same word with Niko, he could have been better, not just a character created for lulz, a fearful psychopath with substance, not a SNL sketch, he's too much to be taken seriously.

Franklin is boring, not hateful, not poorly written, just boring (better than CJ at least)

TLDR version:

Niko>>>> >>>V's trio.

Speaking of the Comet I really don't like the rear wing on GTA V's. It makes it look ugly. GTA IV's looks sleeker with the low level spoiler.

I don't think IV's Comet has a Spoiler...It's not existent, which is a good thing. Spoilers on 95% of Vehicles look ugly. All the Spoiler options in V are outrageously disgusting. If I could, I'd remove that sh*t off V's Comet, as well. Not even through Hex Editing can you get that sh*t off. What were they thinking?! Lol :facedesk:

You count those little "bumps" as Spoilers? :p I don't! :D

Perhaps the best way to describe it would be a slight lip. Nonetheless it still looks nicer than the GTA V version.

I don't really classify that as a Spoiler. It's like a 2 inch little lip. The one in V looks like sh*t, lol...All the "low level" Spoilers in V are even bigger than IV's Comet's "Spoiler." But yeah, I don't even consider it a Spoiler.

IV also has a Spoiler on the Infernus, but I make sure when I obtain it I get it WITHOUT the Spoiler. I don't like them on any Vehicles, really. I like the rounded backs of Vehicles, the Spoilers just look like an add-on out of place, tbh. Only on some Vehicles I like a Spoiler, like a Sultan for instance, in both IV and V.

EDIT: I see what you did there...Nice edit :D

I like the Inferunus in GTA IV, it's really rare. I don't remember ever seeing one out on the streets. Also, Rockstar ruined the Comet in GTA V, why can't the spoiler be taken off? That's the thing about the nice vehicles in GTA IV, they're usually hard to come by, which makes them unique. In GTA V, they're easy to find, so when you get one, it's not really special.

It's such an obnoxious touch by Rockstar to make a rare car like the Infernus spawning everywhere once you drive it. XD

The Comet was 'ruined' in GTA V. If it appeared sans Spoiler (but addable in LSC), I'd like it more. :)

Bailing out of your car or getting flung off your bike was so much more fun in IV. The way Niko ragdoll's is hilarious. And running peds over felt more realistic and brutal. You can hear a loud thump on the front off your car when you hit a ped, but in V it just feels like your running over blow up dolls or something.

Actually, 13 is true. There are no smartphones in IV, silly billy. Regen health is sh*t too.

And damage model/special abilities/moral choices isn't even subjective! Same with crowded cities, I can see way more people in the street I'm walking on in IV right now.

In fact, what you've said is pretty subjective too, so stop banging the bong here buddy.

Apart from the ending, Did V have any choices apart from the occasional side missions and heist setups?

I see that as a side mission seeing as it is 100% optional. I only did it on one playthrough just to hear Michael shout "PUBEHEAD!".

I played GTA IV earlier and I got to say, I feel like there's a lot more vehicles on the streets and pedestrians, and it does feel crowded at times, which is still good. It truly feels like a city. You got people at food vendors, people playing instruments, there's good detail.

There are also choices in V.

You can kill or threaten Ortega in Mr Phillips, but if you decide to spare him you kill him in the next mission anyway.

you can also choose to kill Episilon security and take the money or safely escort the money to the helicopter.

you can also choose to kill or spare Abigail after you collect the submarine parts.

And you can kill or spare Dreyfuss after you solve Leonora Johnsons murder.

The decisions in GTA IV affect the story, and give unique dialogue. The characters acknowledge the decisions you make.

Also, there's special executions in the game. Usually it has to be with a pistol if I remember correctly, but they're still fun to look at.
