We like his work so much he's putting concepts in his concept.

I honestly feel like I'm the only one who's doing DLCs for their own concept thread.

I'll run with Episodes From Vice City when I'm through with my main story. I see no reason to rush.

Okay I guess I'm not alone.

My big mistake is that I focus too much on little details like brands or restaurants, while I forget the main features :/

I used to have that same problem. My suggestion is to focus on the big and medium details first before focusing on the small ones. Edited by ObsydianRaven

Wow, it's been a while since I've been here. Well, it's time for me to get back to my concept thread, The Dragon of the West, and maybe do some concept threads that aren't GTA specifically but are tied to GTA.

Specifically, in addition to resuming work on my GTA concept threads, I want to do a concept thread for a Princess Robot Bubblegum game, as I love the whole Princess Robot Bubblegum show and I think it would be awesome if she had her own spin-off game. Maybe not a sandbox crime game, but maybe an action-oriented game such as Devil May Cry or Bayonetta, or maybe a parody of JRPG's like Final Fantasy.

Since we treat our concepts as part of the universe in our own eyes, I've been thinking about adding references to other concepts. For example, Kyle's organization is called the James Syndicate, so I was thinking of having a reference to Obsydian's Carcer City concept as there is a crime syndicate called the James Family Syndicate. What do you guys think?

I like that idea a lot, actually.

After some thinking I've decided that I may not do a Paris 1971/72 concept and instead do Texas in the 70's with Jack Wood, the arms dealer character from my Carcer City concept, as the protagonist.

Edit: I actually like the idea of that reference.

Posted the second mission of GTAVI: Vice earlier and I'd feel great about you guys heading over there with some support.

Dusty in here lately or what? What's everyone up to?

Side note: forum games - anyone interested?

I would definitely be up for forum games, especially forum-based roleplaying games. (Build Up Your Gang and its many incarnations and spin-offs was probably the most famous example and precendent on here, but I say we could do lots of other stuff too).

And Tyla, I will definitely check out the new updates to GTA VI, I love your concept thread a lot. (EDIT: I just checked it out and I like it a lot)

I'm thinking of taking elements I wanted to include in The Dragon of the West and rework it into a Liberty State concept that includes Liberty City, an expanded Alderney, and of course, Liberty State.

I've thought of multiple protagonists as well, and here's what I have....

Darien Shields, a wealthy twenty-one year old sophisticate living in a penthouse in Algonquin. Unfortunately for him, his father has recently died (under mysterious circumstances, no less) and while Darien has his fortune to support him, his father had been involved in shady business dealings that may threaten his life of luxury. So, now, Darien turns to the criminal underworld to eliminate those connected to said underhanded deals, both to eliminate the evidence against his father's company and seize their assets for himself. He also has a story arc that involves finding more about his father, both in how he died and how his family really made their fortune...

Jeff Kowalski, a more blue-collar and working-class man of twenty-six years living in Alderney. Jeff is a gearhead who involves himself in underground street races and works in a chop-shop owned by the Russian Bratva. He is an overall more cheery and lighthearted GTA protagonist, and is more or less the closest thing the game has to a "good guy" (not to say that he is one, he is still a criminal after all). Jeff's story arc is more simplistic as it basically involves both his dealings with the various gangs and car theft rings (both the Bratva he is loosely associated with and their various rivals) as well as his neverending search for more thrilling street races. Jeff wants to find the perfect racing challenge.

Steve Anderson is a young nineteen-year old hillbilly living in the woods of Liberty State near the town of Jaegersburg. A member of a redneck gang that trafficks marijuana, bootleg prescription meds, and moonshine whiskey, Steve Anderson is essentially a moonshiner and pot dealer, and occasionally a soldier for his gang. Steve's grandfather is leader of this gang and his story arc involves not only Steve's ascension through the ranks of the gang, but also taking it from a mere street gang of rednecks to an organized crime syndicate, essentially a Northern equivalent of the Dixie Mafia. Expect gang wars and drug wars in his gameplay.

There may or may not be a fourth protagonist who would be a deep cover government agent working for the IAA. I am unsure yet. I had toyed around with the idea of a hot-blooded Sicilian gangster, but I decided against that as we already kind of had that in Liberty City Stories with Toni Cipriani.

Other things I want in this Liberty State concept would be a very extensive vehicle list (all the vehicles from GTA IV, Lost and Damned, Ballad of Gay Tony, and GTA V, plus a few more unique vehicles) as well as a new aspect to GTA, an in-game calendar complete with changing seasons and holidays.

In addition to the boroughs of Liberty City and Northern Alderney, there's the following areas based on real-life cities in New York and New Jersey, with their real-life counterparts in parentheses.

Westshire (Westchester, NY)

Jaegersburg (Plattsburgh, NY & Burlington, VT)

Vallon (Yonkers, NY)

Hudson City (Trenton, NJ)

Chesapeake City (Atlantic City, NJ)

Ticonderoga (Saratoga, NY)

Longhorn (Buffalo, NY)

Helmsley (Albany, NY)

Bullworth (Rochester, NY)

Broad Island (Long Island, NY)

Pemberton (Princeton, NJ)

You're really creating your own universe, man. How cool! Actually an arms dealer could be a good way to show 70's Texas. I'm waiting for it.

Probably I'd hang out the Carcer City project on the closet after SOTEOF. Like I said, I've been planning to make a game on Dwayne Forge's downfall, but it's much more than it... let's just say I decided to expand its borders. The project is called Chronicles From Liberty City which is set in late 90's and early 2000's Liberty City including a huge shelf of storylines, shown in tomes (I'm planning to separate the concept into tomes which will touch on different aspects of the story. You can just see it as how The Wire's seasons work... the first season concerning on the projects, the second season concerning on the docks). What I have on my plate: Dwayne Forge's rise and downfall, the heroin trade in Liberty City, a younger Joe Corrola, a younger Liz Torres, The Lost's history with dealing smack, corruption inside LCPD, IAA's (ULP) concern on the drug trade (but I'm not sure if IAA or ULP would stick their nose to drug stuff though, they seem to be concerned mainly on terrorism), the downfall of the street gangs and the rise of the organized crime, Eastern Europe crime in Liberty City. I've been planning to set one tome in 2001, maybe it could be a good idea to include the towers' fall. :sly:

Sounds like a good idea, but I'm not sure about directly including the towers falling or anything like that. Though, with good writing and proper handling of the subject, it could be theoretically handled tastefully as it did have a major impact on American society, particularly in that particular region.

Actually I'm also ambigious about the towers' fall. Trying to handle it could be such a deal, would require too many things with itself. That tome is gonna concern about the downfall of the street gangs and the rise of the organized crime. The food chain victim boys in Firefly Project now rely on Eastern European suppliers who have started to get full control on Broker. By including the towers' fall, I think it could be a good way to show ULP's hostile obsession with Russian terrorism. However, maybe, setting that tome in 2002 wouldn't be too much problem as well. American society still not getting over the heavy trauma of the towers falling, it could be implied with people hanging around with gas masks, some conspiracy nuts throwing out 9/11 theories and the websites on these theories, the interesting documentaries on the towers' fall and ULP's increasing concern on Russian terrorism...

So far, it's a good concept and I do like the theme of the rise of the Bratva and other organized crime factions as well. I look forward to it and will definitely check it out.

Do you like my idea for a Liberty State concept?

Some things I've considered adding to my Liberty State concept would be sub-plots involving things like the growing extreme corporatism (and the gross divide between the rich and the poor and working class caused by it) that is dominating American society, represented best in Darien and Steve's storylines, with Darien being upper class and Steve being generally dirt poor.

One of these plotlines is through Occupy The Exchange (The GTA version of Occupy Wall Street), which each protagonist would have different views on. Darien, being in the top 1% and generally benefitting from rampant corporatism, would be opposed to their ideals and may be hostile towards them, Jeff would be vaguely in support of them and can recieve side missions from them, while Steve, living in rural Jaegersburg, would be largely ambivalent towards the movement and can be persuaded either way.

While Occupy was at its largest in 2011-2012, it does still exist in some places albeit much smaller and less covered by media. The story itself, having seasons and such, I'm not sure to begin it in 2014, or do a timeline story that starts in March of 2011 and ends in December 2015.

Oh yeah... I actually like the theme of the concept. Three men who got shaped in different places and different socio-classes. Darien, grew up in glamorous Algonquin, representing upper class. Jeff, a man lining his way in bad smoke blowing industrial Alderney. Steve's economical and social situation is much worse, but he could easily carry the weights compared to Darien and Steve who are right at where the social and economical separations shape out. Plus point for Steve Anderson for being a hillbilly redneck who is into crime.

On the other hand, it's always better to fancy GTA stories with cultural aspects like the socio-economic ones. For example, IV did it as well, taking American Dream as one of the motivations for Niko (but a little one) and somehow life in LC has represented the endless pursuit of American Dream as well, IMO. Although one of V's implied great aspects was economical criss, we couldn't see much. Even the protagonists didn't have the motives supporting it (maybe except for Frank, but y'know, he is not implied that much). For examples, I would have wanted to see ghost places shaken down by the crisis, people committing crime in ghettos... On the other hand, San Andreas was nice as well. Touching on the fierce gang vendettas during 90's and their impacts on city people (like Denise Robinson being a hardcore fan of GSF), C.R.A.S.H and the riots taking place close to the end of the game (people breaking into houses, running away with TVs, city getting burned down to ground).

About the time, I can't see much problem. 2011-2012 would be proper if we really want to see how hostile rampant corporatism (as you say it had been at its peak by that time) would effect the protagonists. However, it would not bug me if the game sets in a bit future time. BTW, is that some specific reason to set the game in 2014, 2015?.. just wondering.

Basically I want a long-term gameline story, I have decided to start it in Spring of 2011 and have it end in Winter of 2016. That way, all fronts are covered.

The storyline of this concept, titled Give Me Liberty is less like GTA V's heavily interlocked storyline and more like GTA IV's storyline where the three protagonists have largely separate lives but occasionally they overlap. Unlike GTA IV, you can switch out between protagonists at any time like in GTA V.

Here's the full, expanded character profiles for Give Me Liberty. The Shields Family is obviously based on the Kennedys, with some influence from other old money families like the Rockerferllers and Rothschilds.

His other great-uncle, the famed politician Edward Shields is a senator and his father Alan Shields was an extremely wealthy CEO before his mysterious and sudden death in the Autumn of 2010. But now things are starting to change, his father is dead, his uncle has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, and there are rival politicians and businessmen trying to capitalize on both the power vaccuum in the Shields Family's corporate spheres of influence as well as Alan Shields's alleged illegal dealings with both the McReary Irish Mob, various black markets, and possible insider trading and political corruption. Now Darien must clear his father's name and save his own wealth and prestige by working with the criminal underworld to eliminate his family's enemies, secure his fortunes, and ensure another generation of power within the Shields Dynasty.

He is known as a very skilled street racer and makes his living working for a Russian-owned body shop in Acter near his home. However, this body shop is also a chop shop and the center of a car theft ring headed by the Russian Bratva crime boss Kenny Petrovic. Jeff is somewhat aware of this, but still participates in the car thefts and chopping of cars to make his living and occasionally will chop a car on his own if it can help modify his own set of wheels for racing.

A poor white trash hillbilly from the hollers of rural Liberty State, Steve Anderson is a marijuana farmer and member of the Ronin Brotherhood, a redneck street gang that is heavily involved in the production and trafficking of high-quality marijuana as well as prescription drugs and moonshine. His grandfather, Dave Anderson, is the leader of the Ronin, having founded them in the early 1970's. Steve has lived a life of hardship and poverty, a life where the Ronin Brotherhood is the only family he has while nerdy hobbies such as anime and video games are his only escape from a brutal reality where crime is the only way to put food on the table. That being said, Steve has ambition and wants to make it to the top by whatever means necessary. He wants to expand his gang's influence on both the streets and in the marijuana trade, and possibly turn the Ronin from a lowly street gang of rednecks to an organized crime syndicate on par with the Italian and Russian syndicates in Liberty City and Longhorn. The odds are stacked against Steve, but with ambition, cunning, brutality, and a little bit of luck, he may be able to achieve his dreams of wealth and power.

Been thinking of some ideas for underworld of the Carcer City prequel DLC. Pretty much this is what I came with,

  • Santarelli Family (Italian Mafia)
  • Bolio Family (Italian Mafia)
  • Fortino Family (Italian Mafia)
  • Papadakos Family (Greek Mafia)
  • Tomaski Gang (Polish Mafia)
  • Lucky Clovers Gang (Irish Mafia)
  • James Family Syndicate (Drug cartel)
  • Red Kings (Street gang)
  • Carcer Nightmares (Street gang)
  • Los Innocentz (Street gang)

Gangs in the other parts of the Carcer Metro-Area,

  • Angels of Death MC (Bikers)
  • Warheads MC (Bikers)
  • Hellraisers (Street gang)
  • Darkwoods Brotherhood (Street gang)
  • Wapona Trinity (German-American Mafia)

I like the gangs list so far, and I am looking forward to your Carcer City prequel. Maybe our concept threads could be a shared universe if you want. Maybe operatives of the James Family could appear in Liberty State? Send me a PM if you're interested in the idea.

There would probably be former James Family operatives, associates, and members in Liberty State after 1988, though most of them would be in the Carcer City area.

Sounds reasonable to me, maybe there could be vague references here and there to events in Carcer City by some of the other characters, and maybe in Carcer City, you could make occasional references to the Shields Family and their wealth and political influence, seeing as they are the GTA world's equivalent to the Kennedys in my concept. I could even see characters in both my concept and possibly yours making references to conspiracies surrounding the death of Jack Shields (similar to JFK conspiracies).

That aside, what do you guys think of my concept so far?

After some thinking I've decided that I may not do a Paris 1971/72 concept and instead do Texas in the 70's with Jack Wood, the arms dealer character from my Carcer City concept, as the protagonist.

Edit: I actually like the idea of that reference.

:sly:

That's cool, dwayne is one of my favorite characters of gta 4 , waiting to see it.

I am also waiting to see this prequel, it sounds very promising with the backstories of people like Dwayne Forge and Elizabeta Torres, as well as the transition of power from the street gangs to the organized crime gangs in Liberty City.

As for my Liberty State concept, in addition to seasons, there will definitely be tons of wildlife in the rural areas of Liberty State and Alderney's rural areas such as the Heavenly Hills (Skylands) and the Spruce Valley (Pine Barrens).

But I've considered things such as myths and Easter Eggs in the game, and I'm wondering if they'd be too unrealistic or not. Like the one Myth/Easter Egg I know I'm going to include is Lola Del Rio, who can be found in Bohan as a Strangers and Freaks encounter, as that myth is both realistic and a shout-out to GTA IV. But I've also considered some unrealistic Easter Eggs as well, however I have decided on cutting those out and just sticking to Lola.

Revisiting Liberty City again at the moment, I'm absolutely thrilled to read so many plans for LC concepts.

Unholy, you had me at Liberty meets The Wire. This place has been crying out for Dwayne Forge's story for years. The rest, as you've explained as tomes, also sounds fantastic. I can picture Joe Corolla operating at a dilapidated Tudor docks, maybe a young Phil Bell running for union boss... :D

The most interesting parallel I would like to see would be Season 4: the kids. A lot of the minor gangsters would be very young around 2000/2001. To see a focus on a younger class of criminal would be very, very interesting.

As far as the towers go... include them, don't make them the focus. They're best as a device for changing the IAA's focus (from organized crime to terrorism) rather than the catalyst for any hatred.

Osric, everything you have sounds pretty fresh and current as far as LC goes. Occupy The Exchange is a nice touch. Most of the content and characters are your own so it doesn't feel like the same old is being rehased. Still good to see some old faces like Petrovic thrown into the mix. What were some of the more unrealistic easter eggs you were thinking of?

Obsydian, what can I say man? On the gangs alone it looks brilliant. More of a Mafia focus this time around?

The project is now in its earliest progress, but I've a lot in my mind. Actually, IV has a big potential for making prequels, bigger than any other game in the series. I thought I should expand the idea, turn into a big "The Wire" style concept possibly to show every aspect of a melting pot such as Liberty City. For tomes, I'm not sure about the exact number but I guess I know what to do with some of them.

A tome called Heat in the Pipe touches on a connected enigma between the heroin trade and the police corruption. The story would turn around The Lost, Joe Corrola and an aged, shameless corrupted narcotics detective who starts feeling the heat (loosely based on Harvey Keitel's The Lieutenant from "Bad Lieutenant"). I think, for The Lost's perspective, a wilder and younger Billy Grey would make a perfect candidate for one of the protagonists. On the other hand, I'm planning to set one of the parts of this tome to be set in prison. Terry Thorpe would be a temporary protagonist. Terry has been on the "wild side" for manslaughter by that time. This part would concern on him making contacts in prison, which would put The Lost deeper in the heroin crap. Also I would touch on how Johnny K broke his parole in 2000 (as the story is set in 2000).

More on Joe Corrola, I think he'll make more than one appearance (one of them is him being one of the protagonists of Heat in the Pipe). There is a good chance that I could make him a young dock worker who gets involved in a chain of smugglings, similar to story arc of Ziggy and Nick of The Wire. He would eventually get in touch with a pure package, start putting bricks on for his heroin smuggling ring. On the other hand, it would be an awesome move to make Phil involved in a run for being union boss. That would furtherly explain the beef between Pegorinos and Pavanos (I'm sure it's more than Pegorino getting ambushed during Pegorino's Pride).

The last tome (could name it New World Order or Clockwork Gears) is about the downfall of the street gangs and the rise of the organized crime, it's the one which will set in 2001 or 2002 (the fall of the towers' effect getting felt). For this tome, I've not something ambigious, but what I have on my plate is Firefly Projects representing the downfall, meanwhile Eastern European crime organizations such as the Greeks, the Russians, maybe the Albanians as well representing the uprising organized crime. Now, the dealers in Firefly Projects would heavily rely on Greeks' package while they're (generally Russians) rolling around Broker in glory. On the other hand, IAA has started to take further steps on Russian organized crime due to their probable movements for financing terror activities. Maybe I'd add an IAA undercover into story... would make that perspective more stronger.
