Thanks everybody. I hope next issues will be great, too. This is first issue with this amount of likes and positive responses (hmm... I smell a mafia ran by Tyla!!! ).

@TheUnholy: So... You're gonna make a DLC for Obsydian's thread? Well, that's a new thing! Hope it turns to be a good piece of work, like soteof!

Nah, I won't be stepping on anyone's toes. You see I've told about an upcoming Carcer City project of mine. That's it. I haven't found a name for it yet, so I guess this was what made it confusing. :D I'll make the main game first, which will include a two-parts story as far as I see, and later I will publish "A Tale of the Forgotten City", a DLC for this Carcer City project. It touches on a FIB agent who goes undercover to a meth empire... it will set four years after the main game (The main game sets in 1982, the DLC will be set in 1986), and will have little connections with the main game. SOTOEF will be a long project, if I happen to be done with it, I will go on this Carcer City saga, which is considerably short compated to SOTEOF.

@ssbawesome: Wow! What have you planned to do with map? It will be nice if you're good in making detailed maps; The general idea is fine.

I'm starting work on the details today. It'll be my second map that I've done, so I hope it goes well. The first map I ever did was a map of Speedway, back when the story was only one city.

Oh... So that's it. I'm too busy with translating a book, and I sometimes forget about about what I do, read and write online!

"One Year Of Excitement" is getting ready. As I said in the Weekly's attachment, it includes these stuff:

  1. An expansion to story mode, taking place before start of the game. It's just some more missions.
  2. A PDF file which includes whole original thread's content, with additional pictures (I won't tell what pictures until it comes out) and a more detailed map.
  3. A fun, ASCII version of story.

To know how to get it, take a look at here: http://gtaforums.com/topic/582779-grand-theft-auto-san-fierro/page-2?do=findComment&comment=1065873691

ObsydianRaven

Obsydian, your vehicle list looks solid. The only two glaring omissions I can point out are the Faction and the Greenwood. And that's at a stretch. You've got enough K-cars to stir Lee Iacocca's loins and I can't complain at the cop cars at all, even though that NYPD Taurus looks horrible.

I don't think you should add so many vehicles as much as brush up what you've got. There's a few samey samey cars that you could purge - the Electro is pretty much the same as both your standard Willard and the Oceanic. You could keep the nameplates and retool them to other cars.

Personally I'd like to see some huge 70s fullsize sedans added. Big ugly boat things, beaters perhaps, that would be ideal low-end gang transport. Here's a few examples:

Hornet

Maestro

Custom

Anqa

Teasle

Belleville

Some of them are stomach churning, but I think would compliment the setting perfectly.

As far as Every Breath You Take goes - I'd throw it onto the adult contemporary station.

I'll definitely be taking all these in consideration, especially those beaters.

(hmm... I smell a mafia ran by Tyla!!! ).

"I'm gonna make him a concept he can't refuse."

Smell a Mafia? What are we called, the great unwashed? :p

Nah, no string pulling on my part. No horse heads. It's all down to you. Mostly that everyone has been busy and there's lots of activity made this edition the most popular. Which is always good to see. Good job.

Also I'm here to consult something, people. You probably know my SOTEOF, I've been writing brief summaries for parts on the advice of Tyla, for the people who don't like reading long stuff. It may sound stupid to write it here, but it bothers me much and I think I should see what you're saying. My concern is that brief summaries would destroy long written parts at all, although it may draw more people on the topic. To me, SOTEOF's soul is those long-written, deep contented parts. I think I can serve anything how I'd like with that way. Brief summaries may bring more people on the topic but at the same times people may stop reading the parts even if they've time to do so, and this would make the full parts totally unnecessary. I've been thinking about it too much, and I'd be appreciated if you tell me what are you all people thinking about it.

To solve this dilemma I think you should ask yourself the question: Who am I writing this for?

Writing chapters as long as you do, with characters as complex and thought out as yours, I think this is something you want to complete as much for your own personal interest in the setting and the character of Kane as opposed to publishing to a mass audience of people and thriving on the replies and views, if you know what I mean. You take pride in the volume of what you deliver and that shouldn't change just in the hopes of attracting a bigger audience.

I've also never seen an encyclopedia with a summary, intended as a compliment. :p

Sometimes I feel the same way about my soundtracks. My last two concepts have had around 225 tracks each. It's physically impossible for anyone to sit down and listen to them all. That would take days, maybe even a week. To get around that, for a while I had "The Music of Grand Theft Auto IV: London" at the top of the whole soundtrack, a selection of maybe 15 or 20 songs. It was a pain in the arse. I kept changing songs here and there for fear people would miss out on something.

But I wouldn't change how extensive they are for anything. I've driven around on the GTA games with these songs playing on penstick or vinyl or however format I have them just to get the mix right. I know someone might listen to one track and think "Oh sh*t! This reminds me of driving down Ocean Beach!" or "Damn, I remember this from growing up in the 80s." I know if someone did listen to each song one after the other, they'd say to themselves damn, this is gooood. This is enough for me. I don't need ten people to confirm it.

When people look back on your concept when it's complete, they'll say damn, this is awesome. This is probably the most comprehensive thing ever written on these forums. Man, I really hate this character; man, this character is developed really well. Anyone can trade in huge chapters/massive amount of content for a brief summary and a few cheap replies, but will you look at it when you're finished with it and say I'm proud of this?

TLDR - Do what you do best. This TLDR doesn't have the same impact as the above post though, does it?

Well, that sucks. My map got corrupted and now I have to start all over again. Well, that's why they say to make backups.

Damn man, I'm sorry to hear that. Little consolation to you, but I've lost more concepts to computer failure than I've ever made and the only things to come out of them were bigger, better ideas. I'm sure you'll say the same about your brand spanking new map when it's done.

And backups, backups, backups! Lesson learnt - I've got my stuff on at least two different USBs as well as this laptop!

The way I see it, Tyla... you're right. I shouldn't chase after more audience to my concept or more views... like I generally do... I shouldn't give a crap about it. I should focus on what am I trying to achieve with this concept... which means knowing how good can I do with my writing, serving character developments and bring on good plots. If I care about feedbacks so much, and spoil the concept in that way, I wouldn't have any differences for those money-hungry movie makers that make sh*t for the sake of cold, hard cash. Thanks again... I'm thinking of not writing brief summaries... yeah, it may bring more audience for my concept but at the same time I wouldn't feel relieved... like always I do, I shouldn't care about it in this way.

Pooyan Cyrus

@ssbawesome: Backup your files on cloud (except personal and family stuff).

@Tyla: I first read the TLDR, then read the whole post. I completely agree you on that. Also, I didn't expect a mafia don to use such an avatar ;) Always make concepts that nobody forgets, that's not a problem lol.

@everybody: What's your idea on this "race" thing I used in newest mission?

universetwisters

I just had an idle thought about the idea of having a separate section for concept threads.

One of the arguments against it is that it'll deter readers who often visit the series chat section away, right? Then why not make it a subforum of the series chat? Like how "gameplay" is a subforum of the GTA 3 section, etc.

I don't think that'd make much of a difference? The views we'd lose are ilke impulse buyers, so to speak: They're not gonna go look for concepts, but if they see it, up in their face, eh sure, they might take a look. This is like removing the candybars from the check-out and putting it by the socks or something.

At least, it decreases number of people who say "GIMME A LINK" or "WHER DONLOAD DIS?"

In addition to the Aftermath DLC for Carcer City, I'll also be making a second DLC for my Carcer City concept. This one will be a prequel set in 1983 and will follow professional carjacker Jim Harrington who ends up getting involved with the James Family Syndicate during their rise to power in the Carcer City underworld. Some ideas that this prequel DLC will feature;

  • Return of the respect system from GTA 2.
  • Carjacking side missions, similar to GTA IV but much more expanded.
  • A redesigned Carcer City Metro-Area showing Carcer City as it slowly decays and becomes what we see in GTA: Carcer City.
  • The ability to place remote detonated bombs on vehicles.
Pooyan Cyrus

@thedriver111: I myself use Photoshop but Paint .NET is also popular. If you can't afford them use Pixlr and Google Drawings.

You can also PM me and ask for what you want.

@ObsydianRaven: It's amazing. You have pretty good ideas. I can't wait to see how the "Respect System" will act. The redesigned city is also a good idea, and reminds me of VCS.

Pooyan Cyrus

YEAAAHH GTA VI THE RETURN OF CJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJ

WTF? I guess you were going to post that in GTA VI Wishlist?!

ObsydianRaven

The redesigned city is also a good idea, and reminds me of VCS.

It's just won't be the setting that has some changes, but the Carcer City underworld will also be different than 1988. In 1983 all the old crime families in Carcer City are starting to fall apart while street gangs and the James Family Syndicate begin to take over.

It's very good idea of you to do such a thing. Seems like this prequel is more than the story of a car jacker who later climbs upstairs, it's also the reflection of a place that goes rotten, corrupted and decayed, which also changes the criminal food chain, pushing the street gangs to an upper league. I always wanted to see something like that, a GTA that shows transformation into decay and corruption and at the same time, the unstable nature of criminal underworld. That's why I think a GTA IV prequel should be very well, I can imagine that it could work... especially during 90's when street gangs start to fall down and organized crime makes its full-blown turn again. I just wanted to express this. Anyways, Raven... I mean good choice to bring something like that especially for a setting like Carcer City. Bring it on! :^:

Since the map is kinda stressing me out and I haven't had a lot of time to work on it, I'm debating whether or not to post my concept without the complete map at first and edit it as I get more of the map done.

I'd say go ahead, I didn't have the map ready when I first posted my concept.

Why has this topic been unpinned? Anyways, During my hiatus I started working on my GTA: Vicio Imperia concept and got some of the writing down. Here is a little preview.

GTAForums Presents
A gtamann123 Concept

CDWXf1v.png
Hello and Welcome to my concept! "Grand Theft Auto: Vicio Imperia" (Improper Spanish Translation of Vice Empire) is my latest concept thread. After the overwhelming success of GTA V the latest installment takes players from the sun soaked beaches of the West Coast to the Sunk Soaked beaches of the East Coast. Featuring a sprawling recreation of the Miami Metropolitan area and a huge swath of of South Florida Countryside and small towns Including the Florida Keys as well as a few surprises along the way this is the largest and most featured map in the history of Grand Theft Auto. The massive map combined with the fully featured and expansive Single player experience as well as more than Doubling the content of GTA: Online guarantees a terriffic entertainment package for gamers from all walks of life.

The single player story of Grand Theft Auto: Vicio Imperia follows 29 year old Javier Hernandez. A former member of the Cuban millitary who was wrongly convicted of stealing from a fellow soldier and sentanced to life in Prison. But after 6 years in a brutal Cuban prison he was able to Stage a daring escape in order to meet up with his Brother in Vice City. Javier's brother Hector has been living in Vice City for the past 3 years and holds an American green card due to the work he has done for a local drug lord. The events of the game pick up right as Javier arrives in the United States after a grueling trip by raft from the shores of Cuba. Penniless and with little to no contacts in his new home Javier sets off to pursue his American dream no matter what the requirements or the cost are.

Possibly. With the way it stands now the second chapter of the game will see Javier and Hector being ran out of the city and into the back woods to lay low for aw little bit after pissing off a powerful crime boss in VC. So it's possible that we could meet the Redneck protag there and the continue the story with him as Javier and Hector branch off and head back into the city to build their empire. And then maybe they could cross paths at some point later on down the line. But I'm not entirely sure where I will go with the story yet as I have only written 2 missions so far.

As for Brothers In Blood it's fate is really in limbo right now. I'm actually thinking of making it more of an actual writing project than a game concept. Or changing it over to a Mafia III concept.

Thank you. Hopefully it'll turn out great but first we got the main concept thread to complete as well as the Aftermath DLC. Speaking of Aftermath, here are some details about it;

  • Story set in 1989, focusing on Terrance Haider who's serving off his debts to several of Carcer City's gangs.
  • Return of gang wars.
  • Some of Carcer City's gangs have split into different sets, some of which are fighting amongst each other.

Oh and a quick question for you all, which DLC should I do first? Aftermath or Carcer City 1983 [NOTE: This is just a placeholder title]?

Edited by ObsydianRaven

Here is another little teaser from my GTA:VI concept. Also note that I typed all of this on Wordpad with no spell check. Before I post the full concept I will run it through spell check in my web browser.

Counties and local jurisdiction
The area of Tampico you will be visiting is essentially divided into five counties. These counties each maintain their own Police/Fire/EMT services and have their own impound garages. An abandoned will show up in that particular County's Impound garage.
Vice County
the most populous county in the state and includes all of the Vice City urban areainside of the I-895 freeway to the west and north and ends at the cities northern border with the city limits of Fort Seminole and county line of Dansell County. All of the county is patrolled by the Vice City police department since the entire county is under the jurisdiction of the city of Vice City. The Impound lot for the county is located in Little Haiti and the central police station is located Downtown.
Dansell County
Located in the northeastern part of the region this county stretches from the city limits of Vice City to it's south all the way up to Aloe Beach in the north and extends as far west as Lake LaBelle and LaBelle Marsh to the West where it's border is defined as the LaBelle river. It's southern border outside of the Vice City freeway loop is State Road 27 which runs near Lake Hester. The county is mostly thick forest and tree cover and uncludes some swamp as well. The County Impound garage is located in Downtown Fort Seminole and is connected to the central Police Station.
Okacheenie County
Located in the Northwestern part of the region this county includes all of Lake Labelle and Labelle marsh where it borders Dansell County at the LaBelle river. It then extends as far south as State Road 27 and State Road 227 as it cuts a Southwest-Northeast angle. Orakaton is the only city and developed part of the county with the reast being mostly backwoods swamp and tree cover. The County Impound Lot is located in Orakaton and is directly behind the Central Police Station.
Gatorglades County
Located Completely within the jurisdiction and control of the Federal Bureau of Land and Parks (FBLP) this County is essentially just Gatorglades national park and it's northern boundry is all the way up at State Road 27 and 227 and extends all the way to the Gulf in the south. This is the largest county by land area in the entire state of Tampico but is also the the least populous because it is almost all protected area. The Impound lot and Central Police station can be found at the Gatorglades visitor center.
Keys County
All of the Tampico Keys are located within this county. Laredo Key and Johnson Key are not independant cities and are unincorporated areas within the county. This is the smallest county in the South Tampico region by land areas as most of it's jurisdiction can be defined as water. The County Impound garage and Central Police station are located in Oeste Key

Welcome back dude.

Are you going to make a thread soon or just post the whole thing here?

I'm going to make the thread. But I want to have a good start before I post it. I'm trying to hammer out all of the weapons within the next hour. And then maybe post it. Might as well anyways. I was originally going to wait until I had the whole thing done but I could just edit it here.

Oh yeah. No point posting a thread if you've nothing to post to it. Better you make the topic than post in here about it if you've got significant amounts of content like you posted above though. More topic replies for you that way - saves us burning it out in here.

I've been having problems accessing my concept since I posted it and I've noticed the same problem 9/10 when I click on Obsydian's Carcer thread. It comes up to a blank screen. Anyone else getting this? Keeps eating my posts and it's doing my head in... only noticed it on these two topics.

Edit: Beat me to the punch. I'll head over to your thread.
