Grand Theft Auto: Paris intrigues me as the French Connection films are favorites of mine. The 70s heroin scene is full of potential. Obvious question - how are you going to get around the language barrier? Or are you not?

Possibly either subtitles or characters will speak English but with French accents.

Having (a) non-French protagonist(s) could be a solution. I really wouldn't enjoy living to Frenglish for an entire game, so you could also just have them speaking plain English. In the movie Enemy at the Gates, they all just speak English, without accents (or at least without Russian accents), but of course, that might get weird when actual English-speaking characters get involved.

Edit: Christ, it's annoying when you're writing up a new story and realize how similar it is previous games.

I added characters to my Grand Theft Auto: Las Venturas project ;)

I saw your concept yesterday. However it's annoying that everything is shown in pictures.

The concept is a proof that a queen could be creative and do very bad things and show them in her signature :| It gets ruined when you find out she's Polish

Around this time I got hopped on Guy Ritchie movies, Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Wouldn't be interesting to completely put something like that on a concept thread? Yeah, I know actually IV & EFLC worked similar to Snatch, Pulp Fiction etc. but something kinda sounds like there is something different. I've no solid thing... just saying but could be useful for a possible 1999's Liberty City project of mine.

Also good to see this thread is boiling with good ideas. I especially liked Severe and Osric's ideas. At the same time, I don't know much about French Connection but a GTA on it seems cool. I've minimum knowledge on French Connection but have you ever considered a Turkish character? As far as I know, Turkey plays a major role on the French Connection.

I've decided on a title for my Southwestern GTA concept thread. The title is Grand Theft Auto: The Dragon of the West, as a reference to both Dragon City and the fact that the main character is a member of the Yakuza, known for their dragon tattoos and imagery (at least among certain Yakuza groups),

The main protagonist is a 30-year old Japanese-American gangster named Edward "Eddie" Motomura, initially a driver and small-time dope dealer (primarily rave drugs such as MDMA and synthetics) for the Uchiha Group who through circumstance becomes one of their soldiers in the war against Los Equis Cartel. He's a criminal yes, but sees himself as nonviolent, until this gang war brings out a darker side to him. A side he denied and didn't know existed, but ends up enjoying. To put it a certain way, at first he's like Vic Vance but by the end of the storyline, he's more like Trevor as his actions during this war drive him further into depravity.

As for radio stations, I've even got some of them figured out....

The Road Wolf 101.5: Classic Rock

Solid Gold FM: Disco

Radio Las Venturas: Oldies (50's, 60's, and early 70's)

Rattlesnake Radio: Classic Country

Ghost Town Memories: Bluegrass

The Darkness 66.6: Black Metal

The Dragon City Jam: Rap, Hip-Hop

Flashback FM: 80's Hits

Too Cool FM: 90's Hits

Rising Sun 99.8: J-Pop, J-Rock

Night Ride FM: Eurobeat

You've got a solid idea for protagonist. He seems to be a very big danger. Is it going to have one protagonist only?

EDIT: Could somebody bump the "Ultimate"? I want to post some info, but don't want to triple-post :/

Edited by PooyanCyrus

I don't know if I want to post the concept yet as I don't have the weapons, the map, and a lot of other conceptual stuff besides the story done. Any suggestions?

It's better to wait a week until you've done at least one section.

I think your progress is good now, but I think you should get a complete "Setting" section before posting it so you could perfectly reflect the setting on the people's mind... you're introducing a new setting after all. However, I think other things like weapons, side missions, mini-games could wait though.

@ssbawesome: Last logo is the best in my opinion.

@everyone: I'm adding theme songs to my concept. Theme songs' system is a bit different from what you expect. I Invite you to see them and comment. :) Also, I'm trying to complete the soundtrack before publishing missions of "Hot Wheels".

I'm wondering about the possibility of more protagonists for GTA: The Dragon of the West, but I am unsure. The main focus is on Eddie Motomura's slow and steady descent into madness, but I've also considered having a second protagonist such as his wife or girlfriend, to sort of give an outside perspective on said psychological decay. She'd be a criminal as well, but not a violent one, I'm thinking both would start out as lowly drug dealers (she could even be a stoner or raver chick) and while Eddie becomes a soldier in the war against the cartel and slowly goes insane, his wife is affected by the war, but never becomes a soldier given the patriarchal nature of the Yakuza. However, she would have her own missions that affect the storyline as well, and tie into the greater storyline and mythology. They would still love each other, but she slowly is consumed by fear of both the Cartel and later her husband and his employers, and as things escalate in the plotline, she finds herself desperate and willing to do anything to survive. Given her involvement in drugs and possible drug usage, she is afraid to go to the police for fear of being incriminated, and must turn to her own methods to survive and escape the hell that is spreading across the Southwest.

I know the idea of a female protagonist in a GTA is controversial, but I've always had the stance that it could work, provided it was well-written and made sense.

Expect a small handful of characters from IV and V to make cameos in the story, as it takes place after both games, around October 2014 in-game. The actual concept thread will be up much sooner than October of course.

Being that it was again overlooked by the weekly post:

Grand Theft Auto VI

The one they said could not be made.

I'm really sorry for that, Tyla. I'll put this in a special in next issue (which will come in four days from now).

I've got the worst feeling any creator could have. My concept has got no responses for a while, and, of course the same is happening with other concept.

Really weird :(

Edited by PooyanCyrus

Progress is coming along nicely with the map and weapons. While working on Gray Valley I thought up my hopefully second concept. I'm not going to say too much, but it takes place in Liberty City in 1988.

Another nice issue, Pooyan. Goodly covered with Osric's "The Dragon of the West" and ObsydianRaven's "Grand Theft Auto: Paris". I'm thinking of hittin' the Majesty's LV concept soon as well.

I found your poll/research's results totally right. I've seen a lot of people who liked VCS mostly because of the empire building system, which makes me happy because VCS is one of the most underrated games in the series. Actually I have never showed a big like towards Las Venturas, but thinking about a lot of things such as Italians operating casinos, motorcycle gangs, gun runners... LV has potential and it's one of the most expected settings for GTA.

Now coming to the painy truth (for me :D) is that people unfortunately avoid detailed missions, unlike back in the day... and that's probably why people avoid SOTEOF. I know that my missions are long like a dragon's tail, which puts people away from reading it. With SOTEOF, I tried to measure that: how can I express with writing, and I think this makes the missions more productive though. Maybe a bigger problem with SOTEOF is that it acts like a prequel to San Andreas, which doesn't appeal people too much because it's old school and is not something new. However, you know what f*ck it, though! I won't let my precious SOTEOF die for that. My IV DLC A Mexico Al Infierno died as well, I can't give another casualty. :W So no matter the situation is, SOTEOF will be up and running.

This issue deserves some cookie, Pooyan. Here you have it. :cookie:

So here's what I have for protagonist ideas for my Paris concept,

  1. A hitman who is not aligned with any specific Milieu or criminal organization. He doesn't speak much and is a heavy smoker. He is somewhat of a nod to Claude from III.
  2. An undercover police detective who has become addicted to Heroin and is extremely corrupt, abusing his powers to get away with crime.
  3. A Turkish drug smuggler. Still working on his character at the moment.

now the language thing is getting really serious. :/

So, I've been reworking the story I had in mind for my Vice concept, by making it multi-protagonist. I kinda think it works better, although dammit it's hard to figure out how make it all work together, make it seem credible and not seem too similar to past games.

Also working on rough concepts for radio stations, so I just wanted to hear some opinions, as I don't really think I have the best sense for it. No names or tracks for them yet, but just general theme to them

  • A classic/southern rock/country/blues stations (eg. Allman brothers, CCR)
  • An 80's metal and rock station (eg. Dio, Iron Maiden)
  • A 'club-hiphop/pop' station (eg. Pitbull, Macklemore)
  • A gangster/ethnic/indie hiphop station
  • The mandatory reggae station
  • A latin folk/salsa station (kinda like Espantoso)
  • A soft electronic station (kinda like Radio Mirror Park)
  • FlashBack - '80s pop and new wave (Maybe more than one station?)
  • At least two talk-radios, one entirely in spanish

And then there are the maybes:

  • A modern indie/blues station (eg. Black Keys, not unlike Vinewood Boulevard Radio)
  • A modern metal/heavy rock station (Not 'LCHC-heavy' though)
  • A more 'heavy' electronic station
  • Modern pop?
  • Funk/electro-funk?

Thoughts, suggestions?

I think it would be better if this radio station would be modern alternative rock/pop-punk (e.g. Paramore, Panic! At The Disco or Sum 41).

@Pooyan: nope. :)

Edited by phoenixShine

Eh, does that even count as 'modern' anymore? Wasn't that more of a thing like 5-10 years ago? Also, and this admittedly comes down to personal preference and bias and may be a bit harsh, but I just really don't like that music or think it's relevant for anyone older than 17.

I did however forget one thing though: A (modern/metal) rockabilly-style station, though I don't know if that's particularly relevant for the setting.

Pooyan Cyrus

@TheUnholy: It's not the only pain creators like you and me have. I mean, we're doing a painful job here

@Severe: So what does count modern? Btw, I've fell in love with Hoosiers' new album, they've got a lot of potential!

@phoenixShine: Are you going to do any concepts soon? I remember you did the "VI" concept two times and removed it. What's going on with you?

@Severe: So what does count modern? Btw, I've fell in love with Hoosiers' new album, they've got a lot of potential!

Well, contemporary might be a better word, but anything from within the last 2, maybe 3 years at most. And not just in terms of releases, but hits/well received music. It of course varies regionally, and not being from anywhere near Miami, I'm not a good judge. Also, if my VICE was to hypothetically be released, it'd be in 2018 or something, so it'd have changed by then anyhow. Might just leave it as ContempRock for now.

Pooyan Cyrus

@Severe: I think what you say is based on what like. If it's that, okay then, people are different.

@everybody: I completed Radio Stations of "Ultimate", finally! I tried to do my best. Tomorrow will be a BIG DAY! ;) I'm going to publish first mission of "Hot Wheels", and I bet that It's more than an episode. This is the only episode in which you drive through all states. All States.

A criminal driver is the protagonist (Alfie Granville), so it should be way better than "Driver" franchise. It has lots of drie-bys and driving, so it should be way better than "NFS" series. And it has a magic story of love! I know that GTA isn't place for Love with all those Strip clubs and other stuff, but this is also story of how Kate, the dirty Miss. Perdue, becomes a loyal lover.

So... A Racing Game, A Drive-By Game, A Love Story, in a GTA. A Racing Game, A Drive-By Game, A Love Story, in a GTA. A Racing Game, A Drive-By Game, A Love Story, in a GTA.

Come to think about it! Here, I'm promising that this episode will be a lot better than what you think. This will be the best. I've wrote 2 missions and have an idea of the next 18 ones.

Yall should read Tyla's thread. Really.

The point of saying this?

I'm just saying, it's a crazy good thread and there's a lot of good work put into it. No need to get aggressive about it.
