Ladies and Gentlemen!

I'm happy to announce refreshed creators' lounge!

Here's the place to discuss everything about concept threads, making them, writing concept's scenario, etc.

If you need any help in writing, here's place to ask for it. If you've got a concept idea and want to discuss with others about it, here's the right place.

I actually think concept threads should have their sub-section, but in this situation, having a new creators' lounge will help us having a better place for discussing about our concepts.

Please keep this thread clean and don't spam.

I'm trying to make something nice out of this thread, and I hope you'll help me with that.

Creating a GTA Concept thread

by blitz

Hi there, in this thread I will give you tips and hints to make a successful concept thread. The first and seconds topics were created by ScratchCard (who left and came back) and TommyMufc-Champs (Who changed username, therefore cannot further edit his old topic), but there hasn't been one for a while now so I thought I might as well create a third version.

The first step is choosing what kind of thread you're planning on making.
It can be:

•i. An idea/wish/location/theory
•ii. A GTA-based concept thread
•iii. Creating A Poll
•iv. Creating a DLC Concept Thread
•v. Q & A

Before you post a new thread, stop and think if the thread will lead to a proper discussion. If you do not see such thing on your thread's future, don't even bother to post it as it will be locked by mods anyways.

•If it's something you want to see in the next GTA, click here.
•If it's the location the next game will be set in click here.
•If you have made any artwork, post it here.
•If it's your own made map, post it here or here.
For an organized list of all concept threads, click here.

ii. A GTA-based concept thread
What is a concept thread?
A concept thread is basically a fan-made topic (not official). It can also be what you think the game's going to be like, but you have to keep in mind that for a successful concept thread, certain things such as a location, storyline, characters, vehicles, and much more must be added by you.

Here are some examples of successful concept threads:

#1
#2
#3
#4

These may give you ideas, but don't steal from them or you can get in trouble!

Please keep in mind that making concept threads take a lot of time and effort, so before making one you have to remember that there will be a lot of work to do, so no laziness!

Here are some tips:
•Update the thread on a regular interest, make it better, so the readers (and yourself) don't lose interest.
•Be original, let your ideas flow. A good section to show your originality is the mini-games and activities part, put stuff that you would have enjoyed in IV!
•Have a nice layout. like this. You can request for a logo and other graphics on the GFX & Tutorials section of the forums.
•Spell the title right. Seriously.
•Try to have as little mistakes as possible. If you want, you can copy and past your whole thing onto a word document before posting and having spell-check do it for you wink.gif
•Put thought into everything you write, especially the setting.
•Details are very important. What songs will be included? Who's the main character? The more details, the better your topic.
•Try not to use characters from other games. Some are fine, though. But you don't want to create a III and IV era crossover.

Here's a great topic that will help you with your images and such: BB Codes.

Want to share your ideas and get opinions from other concept thread makers? Check out The Creator's Lounge for that.

iii. Creating A Poll
This hasn't got much to do with the whole idea of concept threads, but I'll just throw it in anyways.

There are a lot of pointless polls here on the forums, especially on this sections. It is important that you think before creating a poll, you also need to make sure that the poll hasn't been created before. You can check that by using the search function.

Try to add as many answers as possible, so members can have a wide variety of answers to pick on. If you've created a poll and feel the need to ask something, then you might as well ask a moderator. Here is an example of a pointless poll: Clicky.

You see? Ask a question you're actually curious about, if you're not, don't even bother.

iv. Creating a DLC Concept Thread
Creating a DLC concept thread is a lot like creating any regular concept thread, except that the story has crossovers with the original game and has some similarities. For example, TLaD and TBoGT are DLC's of GTA IV, if you didn't know already.

Here are some examples of DLC concepts:

#1
#2
#3
#4

Here's an excellent guide made by akavari: So You Want To Make A DLC?

Usually, when making DLC's people tend to actually make up their own missions. If you are planning on doing so, try to keep it to a maximum of 40 missions, too many may result boring to the reader and in some cases to yourself.
Also, some people find DLC's stupid because Rockstar already said no more DLC's will be released towards existent games. The creator knows that, so don't go around saying that because people could take that in an offensive way.

v. Q & A

Q: Who controls the section?
A: The section is controlled by XTREME0235

Q: Why did my topic get locked?
A: It was either stupid, incomplete, or you didn't put much thought into it.

Q: Why aren't people replying to my topic?
A: Be patient, keep on updating it regularly and soon enough you'll get more and more members replying. There's also a possibility that you didn't put much though into it.

Q: Why is this section called GTA Series Chat?
A: Because it's were we discuss about the whole franchise, not specific games. Concept threads go here too.

You really should've named this "The Creators Lounge 2.0", but that's cool. Anyways, I'm making my way to posting my concept in the next week or so. I'm going with 2 protagonists to better establish a Father/Son relationship that V failed on delivering. These are my protagonists.

Raymond Carter-Caucasian, 48, born and raised in Carcer City (Detroit), joined the gang Youth Enterprises (Young Boys Inc.) at age 13, left to Midway ((Chicago) I changed Chicago to Midway, although it was Indianapolis' name originally), became a wealthy businessman, although retired from crime, his past tracks him down and tries to kill him.

Kyle James-Caucasian, 24, found himself in a life of crime and doesn't want to pull himself out of it, resides in Speedway (Indianapolis), finds Raymond as a "father figure", wants to gain influence in the state and make his mark.

Any thoughts? Should I add a third protagonist to compliment the third city?

I fixed a mistake in name of old topic, so this actually is a new name!

About your upcoming concept; Purely Nice idea. Just want to see your way of parodying Chicago and Detroit. I don't want to wait for it!

I made a gta concept thread. Gta king venturas.

http://gtaforums.com/topic/686419-grand-theft-auto-king-venturas/

Did you make it again? Because I remember reading it a month ago. And I checked it out now, again.

Why don't you work on the graphics? I think it's a good idea, but good ideas need good presentation.

I seldom check this section, but I'm still interested - why was the original Lounge locked?

And yeah, I'm working on a new concept based around the creation of Sindacco Family. I'm certainly not a great writer, and not a native English speaker, but I'll try to make it as good as I can, seeing how my previous attempt (Southside Story, if you're interested, check it out) partly failed after I messed up the timeline.

It's not gonna be anything fancy - no multiple protagonists, set in 3D-era rendition of Las Venturas and LS Countryside, but it features some new side-missions and different playlists for radio stations, obviously.

I would need some help with radio stations, however, so if anyone can give a helping hand, please do.

^ Last week the original topic was unpinned - alongside blitz's concept writing guide and concept thread index - and the reason given by Kirsty was that they're trying to give this place a new look.

Also, I'm happy pleased with the amount of concepts going to be published. That's nice.

At least, it will shut the mouth of members who say this section is inactive.

I worked on the Concept Thread Index for at least three hours now and it's pretty much done. Every concept thread, including the ones posted in v2.0, has been added to the list. I've also fixed some code errors, missing links and the like, and it's working. Table codes are no problem to me anymore, so if anyone has a question about them, feel free to ask me. ;)

Anyway, I need some input from you guys. The Index is complete now, but will we continually add topics to it and never remove anything from it? Or, should we get rid of some of the older topics? If so, which ones and how old must they be approximately? Just in case you're too lazy to search for the old Index: click. Any help and input is appreciated.

Edited by Andreas

The fairest way would be to construct the index over a couple of posts, with currently active concepts taking the first post and the older concepts archived in the second. That way no concept is left out but there's still the distinction between inactive and active.

Thanks for piecing it back together again.

I'm having a hard time picking out what kind of ideas I should utilise for the gameplay of EC79. The first being a gameplay mode option. I'm thinking whether or not to implement them in EC79. One of them being a more realistic health system, where limbs may be injured if shot at or attacked and based on which the game marks your health meter. For example, if you were to be shot in the head or chest you may be wasted instantly or quickly, while if you are shot in the legs you would only walk slowly, and lose health slowly. In order to stop this, you need to get treated at a hospital or collect a first-aid kit. After treatment, your health would replenish gradually (i.e. Zero to full health in 6 in-game hours). However, this can be overridden by the use of drugs, legal or illegal. Some legal drugs may have adverse effects, too. Painkillers replenish health, while steroids increase strength and energy for 24 hours in game (about the same effects as the VC painkiller). Others I haven't thought of yet, but they'll come along.

Then there's this thing with the episodes. I know for a fact that I'm keeping the original 3, though I'm relocating the original Boston story to LC, replacing it with the new one. But I'm deciding on whether or not I should add another. It's just that I feel that there's so much potential in the map that I'm leaving something out. It's really a huge headache for me.

Any opinions? Or any suggestions?

EDIT: And in case you missed it, I added another mission, too.

Edited by bengalboy_0701

I've decided that the year my story takes place in is 2006. There will be some returning characters (just a few) to explain part of their past.

I have found the person that I am basing Kyle's appearance off of (Spoiler for large image):

I have the main outline of my story complete, but I'm creating most missions as I go along. It helps me as I can scrap an idea without completely destroying my story. Just take your time, so it doesn't become a chore.

You can feel free to use these drugs' features from my very first fan concept:

Marijuana: Develops the player's lung capacity.

Cocaine: Restores the player's stamina.

Heroin: Makes the player much stronger.

Ecstasy: Ecstasy restores %15 of player's health.

Meth: Makes player not bleed for a while (during fireshots, fallings or sth.)

Pills: Helps the player wriggle from the bullets easily.

To be honest, actually Niall's story sounded okay to me. However, you're the boss, so you know best. I guess, it's mafia hitman story you've been talking about that will replace Niall's story. The biggest question is that you have any crossovers in your mind. Of course, if it's a parallel to Kaz's and Javier's stories.

HOW'S ANNIE?

For those who are aware of my upcoming SF 1976 topic, I've got two questions:

The first is that since I want this to feel more like a V spinoff (the same way VC was to III), so I've kind of got an idea. I'm going to have the protagnoists bring in major shipments the same way the heists in V worked (meaning there's a limited number, but with a massive pay at the end of each). But I don't want to over do it and take away from individual plots, like it did in V. So how many should I put in? Take note I intend on having about 80-ish missions.

Another thing is at what point do too many old characters appearing become a problem? I've planned Wei Cheng (obviously because he's a protagonist) and a younger ULP. But I've also figured out a way to work Clay Simons and Jon Gravelli into the story if I like. I just think it was over done in V as well and don't want to fall into that trap.

So how many should I put in? Take note I intend on having about 80-ish missions.

I'd put in about 5 and have them spanned across the story. That way you have them often enough to keep the player interested, but not too often that they lose their significance.

Another thing is at what point do too many old characters appearing become a problem?

I've had that problem as well. Right now I have Marnie from GTA IV appearing and possibly Karen/Michelle. I have some other ideas for some characters to return, but I don't want to flood the entire with returning characters.

First of all the shipment idea is great. I can actually imagine this working very similar to heists.

Personally, I think you could throw in as many or as few shipments you feel like. What matters are the variables you're working with.

Is it going to make the guy rich? Is it going go wrong and cost him all his dough? Does he have competition flooding the Bay Area with sh*t, lowering his wholesale dramatically?

Will the shipment be jumped at sea? Destroyed? Will the coast guard bust it, confiscate it and force the protagonist and pals to sneak into the cop shop and recover it?

Will the shipments render the protagonist unplayable for a while like GTAV made Michael and Franklin lay low after the jewel heist?

Who gets a cut? Will a sling to the cops and officials be taken off the final payout? What kind of % would the smugglers get paid?

As long as each shipment furthers their story, they aren't going to dramatically take away from.

Assuming 25-28 missions per protag, anywhere from just the one to three or four would fly. It depends how active each protagonist ends up being in the drug game.

I have a similar problem with Vice.

When it gets to the point where the character could concievably be someone else, remove them. Think how easy it would've been to have an Angel of Death in Johnny K's place, how effective the scene still would've been without the character assassination.

Clay Simons would be fantastic. It's 1976 and he's fresh back from Saigon. I'd feel kinda cheated if he weren't in.

Gravelli doesn't need to be there (unless, you're planning a Liberty City cameo). This is the point where it would be much better for you to introduce Yet-to-be-named mafioso, mid 50s, shady ties, high rank in San Fierro Crime Family.

I've actually included ULPC in my story, involved in nasty sh*t with the Contras in Nicaragua, propping up IAA assets in Vice. The problem was not compromising his character by him being there. For a start he's named as Edward T. Fortune, who may aswell be a completely different character.

I'm just wondering what's going on here. :dontgetit: phoenixShine had started a new topic months ago, and linked the old topic, and now Andreas is re-doing that, having everybody appreciating him! Are you going to edit the original topic (which is somehow impossible), Andreas? Or... what are you going to do?

Editing the original topic is technically possible but not the best idea since Spaghetti Cat isn't updating it anymore, and I myself can't do it because I'm moderating the V forum, not this section though. There are two options in my view: we are using phoenixShine's topic and he will continue to update it on a regular basis, or I create a new topic and update it myself regularly. The problem about the former is that it will run into the limit fairly quickly because only two posts are reserved at the start of the topic. I recommend at least three or, even better, four posts to be reserved.

I will PM phoenixShine to see what he thinks.

Isn't that possible to give permission to someone for a topic? As far as I know, there is something like that. There could be a new "index topic" would be opened and someone who are willing to edit the topic on a frequent basis would be given the responsibility.

Pretty sure it's not possible to delegate individual permissions. I was interested in the same thing.

Being that there are sod all posts in the Concept Thread Index 2.0 if you guys were dead set on keeping it, I don't think a few posts being deleted in that thread would be missed. PheonixShine could then reserve two or three posts.

The only way to do this would be to give someone staff powers, i.e. the ability to moderate the GTA Series Chat. There is currently a led-by, specifically XTREME0235, but I honestly can't remember the last time he posted in this section... I don't think that IPB offers the option to give certain members the right to edit posts or topics of other members, without making them a led-by, at least not at default. It would require a modification to the forum software which will most likely not be done, because the old boards were already modded as hell and it caused the forum to be unstable, insecure, and difficult to maintain. So, they are trying to keep all kinds of modifications to an absolute minimum, as far as I'm aware.

@ssbawesome and TheUnholy- thanks for the input guys, it's really helping.

Btw, I'm actually keeping the original Niall story along with the new one, except Niall's story now takes place in Liberty, while the mafia story sets in Tremont.

I'm still not sure when I'll get to fix my connection though, so the only thing I'll be updating are the missions from the mobile version.

I had the same situation months ago! I was only able to use my mobile!

And I don't have any better situation now... I've got a new phone last week but my laptop is just a random piece of rubbish!. The PC also hangs randomly, but I'm continuing the update of Ultimate.

So don't get disappointed. ;)

MythicalCreature

Tell me about it... It's one hell of a pain in the ass. Luckily, I could somehow just remove the plotlines with that notice on the first page, cause It already auto deleted 2 and a half of them anyway.

There's a reason why I take a lot of time before updating anything.

I've watched GTA V's prologue a couple of times today, and I can say that Brad could be a very well protag for a GTA V prequel. Although Tyla has suggested that before, I would like to touch on it one more time. Because Brad seems like a crazy, wild type (he's trying to point out M and T that he disbehaved that woman he held hostage during that bank hit), and interestingly that one point attracted me during "Prologue" was that nobody, both Michael and Trevor seem like, don't give a crap about Brad. When Brad says he has mistreated a woman hostage (of course, Brad was being a dick by trying to be proud with this), Michael just fends him off and sarcastically replies "Yeah, you're a real stallion.". About T, when Brad gets shot, Trevor suggests running away, but right after M gets a fake shot, T says he's not gonna leave him. The way I see it, both Trev and Mike were treating Brad like a lap dog, which is quite tragedic if you ask me. However, my mind is still on that thing: when T discovers that Brad's decaying corpse is laying in Michael's (fake) grave, he crosses out with Michael, but during "Prologue", both T and M don't give less of a sh*t to him. He went angry because Michael did betray him, or he really saw Brad as a friend? Also the fact that Trev wants to bust out Brad from the can (before he is unaware of the painy truth) makes it more confusing. This will always keep in my mind as a question. Anyways, if anyone is down to do a GTA V prequel, about Michael and Trevor's past, they should be aware of Brad's potential. A man who is a wild one yet runs with the wrong kind hoping to be respected but gets no sh*t. Sounds like a distinctive personality.

Brad's an interesting character. There's a lot of symbolism to him but unfortunately not much personality.

I think he's an amalgamation of both Michael and Trevor's characteristics. He's as violent as T - shown by how he roughs up the hostages - and he has the same need for reassurance as Michael - see his bragging about pressing that bitch's face against the glass.

If you f*ck around in the Prologue mission and listen to some of his lines, they're quite interesting. He's an outlaw of the highest order, seems to hold a huge grudge against society. There's indications that maybe he was in the military at some point. He knows how to handle explosives. I think universetwisters spotted he wears something around his neck that may or may not be dog tags.

I wouldn't say in the limited time we saw Brad he was treated like a lap dog. I think more that he wasn't long in the group - that he was a protege of sorts who came in, did a few successful heists and was riding big on the success - and with Michael slowing down and losing his edge, Brad wanted to take it to a whole new level. He wanted to take down The Big One, but that wasn't going to happen with Mike - so why not off him and do it with T?

Lester doesn't speak favorably of him. Says he was mean and unreliable.

Although I did like Vic in VCS, I always thought he could made a perfect dark protagonist, an anti-hero maybe (judging by his money-hungry, douchebag characteristic in VC). Victor could be a perfect cunning fox, a rip-off merchant and an opportunist drug dealer. Now after Vic, I don't know but I guess, Brad is the only character that made me think he (Brad) would be anti-hero, dark protagonist.

Like we agreed upon, Brad is a wild one. He seems like the guy that loves causing havoc, doing crazy sh*t, likes playing with the Devil. Also Brad seems like the kind of criminals who can do (almost) everthing that can get him good, hot cash. Besides dealing junk (obviously Brad's kind would do it), Brad can brutally torture someone for another someone who wants to squeeze something out of the former someone (the tortured). Even Brad seems not to give crap if he's ordered to take care of a so-called bad guy along with his wife and children. Thinking all of this, Brad could be made the darkest protag GTA may ever see, also a perfect anti-hero, who doesn't hold his f*cking horses to kill a guy along with his family, breaking havoc, pushing drugs to sick high-schoolers and more sh*t. To be honest, Brad would make a more bearable sociopath than Trevor, because his crazy actions would have more purpose than the ones of T have. Also I think Brad doesn't seem like the kind of stupid (not the way Lester talks) who would break havoc before computing any thing that would cause from it. He would look for insurance for his back before. Yeah, Brad would seem like a damn violence maniac but the way I see it, Brad wouldn't have the balls to carry the burdens of a hot-headed action with screwed up consequences. So, in short, Brad seems like the a wild, violent yet opportunist criminal who lines his way without dignity, while hanging out with the wrond kind to prove himself.

About Brad, I think that it's V's contradictory story again. Prologue made me think like Michael and Trevor saw Brad as a lap dog who would just help them with the heists by his "Waingro style" characteristic. But some little things later on the story made me think Trevor and Brad were really close, Trev cared too much for him, he even wanted him to back on the set, picking up scores with him like the "full of balls" heists they carried out in the old days. However, I think this is %100 true: Michael didn't give less of a sh*t for Brad, all the ways get us there.

Now, Brad is like a gold mine amongst GTA V characters who are generally poor-written. He would make a great use for a V prequel.

I would have gone for a V prequel, but now I'm on State on the Edge of Forever, which includes a five chapters story. And after SOTEOF, I think I will go for a late 90's Liberty City following the story of an African-American criminal who escapes to LC to survive, and a Spanish Lord who is just released after a considerable huge amount of jail sentence for a crime he didn't commit. Maybe, a third protag would come along though.

As of now I'm in the middle of updating my Carcer City thread and was wondering if it's a good idea to have a single ending seeing as IV and V have multiple?
