Would you like a GTA set in the past?

GTA: Past or Present?

101 members have voted

  1. 1. Would you prefer:

    • A GTA set in the past (60's or 70's)?
    • Or for GTA to stay in the modern day?

Personally, I'm getting tired of the modern day setting of not only GTA, but pretty much every other sandbox game. I think a GTA set in the 60's or 70's would be a breath of fresh air for the series. I know we've already had GTA games set in the past, but they were in the 3D universe. One made in the HD universe would be amazing. However, I've noticed that a lot of people seem to think GTA should stay in the modern day, stating reasons such as internet, social media etc. Well I for one am sick of seeing that stuff everywhere in real life, and don't feel the need to see it in game. GTA IV and GTA V have been set in the modern day, I think GTA VI should go back in time. Mid 60's at the earliest, mid 70's would be perfect.

Can we have it set in a Miam-esque location? Something sunny with a few minority groups to pit against one-another...

70s would be cool. I just don't know where it would take place since NYC and California have been used in HD era.

Maybe Europe? Or South America? The possibilities are endless.

I don't think we can go too far back in time or a lot of what makes GTA what it is wouldn't work. Without a cell phone the entire mission structure would have to revert to the payphones of the first two games, or worse.

I DO think it would be fun to have retro-themed DLC... do like Driver: San Francisco did and have missions where only old cars are on the roads and stuff like that.

I also really want a 90's game... one with AiC and NWO on the radio... I do love the California location though... maybe add... casinos?

A GTA in another country would be cool, but I don't think it'd really work. Much of what GTA is how it takes the piss out of American culture.

Criminals were doing crimes and setting things up way before mobile phones came about. It just means Rockstar is going to have to be creative, rather than rely on the lazy mobile phone thing.

let me ask you. vice city had the best music. right? not one track was wrong. GTA V? some good tracks, others were unnecessary.

Vice City was close enough the 70's for me, & L.A. Noire's vehicles made me sad.

another Red Dead = stfu & take me money.

If it were the 80's, we could rely on beepers and I'm pretty sure there would be a ton of payphones. If it were set in the 90's, cellphones existed and aside from having internet, it'd be pretty much the same thing. Like the cellphone in IV but less advanced.

No thanks I like modern the most, that was my only grip with gta vice city and san Andreas. I would even prefer it been in the future than the past

Depends on the setting.

I'd love a '88-'92 Liberty City...going through the real broadway & times square riddled with brothels and shoddy businesses before Giuliani cleaned it up... having genres like Freestyle & Eurotrance on the radio...

Or a modern day VIce City. To me, VC is more about excess than LS is...

A better idea would be a noire style GTA. Where you're a detective or something and can solve crimes.

Modern day Vice City would be very interesting, seeing as we've only gotten to experience it in the 80's.

In all seriousness though, I know the poll asked for one set in the 60's-70's, but I would love a 40's-50's vibe. Those cars, the greasers and remaining zoot-suiters... corrupt politicians, innocent population... and those cars.

Plus, the cars from that era were pretty keen.

I'd like one in the 70's or 80's, set in New York. For some reason, I just love New York, it's such an interesting place.

Isn't that Red Dead Redemption? I've never played RDR and don't know much about it, but isn't that pretty much it?

Only if they go back to the Dark Ages. Would be cool having our knight characters team up to take down a dragon in the woods. But then it wouldn't be GTA now would it.
