Which means(if true), it's optimized for VR gaming. On a point of view kind of belief, this is a realistic expectation. But, I'm not counting on it. Giles Flaggot 1
I'd love it as an extra camera angle without losing 3rd person view, as a stand-alone first person open world game? Definitely! One thing I want the most in GTA is cockpit cam, as we've seen, it is possible now

It's also against the tradition of GTA to include Giraffes that ride cars, including Iron Man, and also, to port a ten year old game into a newer game. KarimNTerr
Rockstar will never make a First Person perspective game, this has already been told by Dan Houser. In fact, he said: "We’re deliberately avoiding that right now, it’s in our DNA to avoid doing what other companies are doing... You have to have originality in your games; you have to have some kind of interesting message. You could say that the goalpoint of Rockstar is to have the players really feel what we’re trying to do."
krashr
i prefer third person view, but it's nice when games give you the option so that you can enjoy it the way you most like to play. slightly off-topic, but i feel the same way about the option to invert the y-axis Edited June 26, 2014 by krashr
HoleInTheSky
First-person looks alright here. In modded IV/ELFC, I spend about 1/3 of the time in 1st person. Moving about the scenery from eye-level makes such a difference to the open world. Place feels a lot bigger, too.

IV had more detailed vehicle interiors than San Andreas did, that didn't mean we'd be getting a first person view, and we didn't. Just because it's more detailed, doesn't mean we will have a first person view in vehicles. Edited June 26, 2014 by TJGM

Can't wait to see more. im pretty sure that the next big thing in the video games world is gonna be a GTA title featuring 1st person view and itll be built from ground up for fp view (as an option ofcoarse) especially with all of this VR whole thing that is going on right now..maybe they will even support the rift and other VR hmds in the future who knows (maybe R* wont be the company to create it but other companies, such a game will be very popular if done right). Fuzzknuckles
I have no problem with an optional FP view, but I would never use it. The thing about GTA is that it's, to some degree, about the characters, and constantly having that character on screen as a point of reference helps you stay immersed in THEIR story. If this were some faceless guy in a faceless world, who we didn't have a (reasonably) deep story attached to, it would make more sense. The point of an FP game of any kind is to put yourself within that world - YOU are represented by the controllable avatar. Whereas, in GTA, you take control of a very specific character. So, to put yourself within Trevor, Franklin or Michael would defeat the purpose of the characterisation. We are meant to be viewing THEM in their world, not controlling ourselves within the world. Hopefully that makes sense. But like I say, if it's optional, it's fine. whats_a_username? and GourangaMaster 2 Signatures are dumb anyway. Nice argumentation, I didn't see this point of view about the first person mode and probably that's what the team behind GTA also defends. So maybe even as an option this new camera view in gta would not correspond to what gta is about, about doing something with a character and not us becoming the character. strakan7
I would argue that there is obviously character build up with the three protags but FP would allow for players to 'immerse' themselves with each char, get more of a feel for the areas they live in etc. Im about to start another playthrough, possibly without radar if i can remember the map enough...FP would warrant another playthrough and for me, even cockpit cam would be enough, although the 1st person shooting would be excellent and exploring would be a new joy. So it's not a Battlefield 4 FPS. OT: This is very cool, i'd love it to be added as an option by R*. Frank's hand and the SNS Pistol from the 1st video looks like TF2 though, chubby. Neox
Everybody who says that this OPTION would be bad for GTA 5 is stupid. It's still GTA. It's not becoming CoD or any other shooter. For me GTA was always about the exploration and freedom. Does the first person view change that? No. You also have the "above the hood" camera while being in a car already. Should that be taken out of the game too? It's obiously not in third person. Edited June 29, 2014 by Neox strakan7 and 1987_EC
GourangaMaster
As long as its optional i have no problem with it. I would probably use it from time to time but only to cruise and just take in the city and environment like the taxi rides in GTA IV. I certainly get a stronger feeling of immersion watching the world go by at street level but for regular game play i prefer the 3rd person perspective. DaRkL3AD3R
Guys I hate to say it but first person perspective on foot will never happen in a GTA game. It's really against their beliefs and I know it will not happen. That said... First person cockpit view is almost all but confirmed at this point. You can argue the "better looking" interiors in IV vs SA were wasted because no first person to appreciate, but moving dials on the gauges is taking things to a completely different level. I mean it's not even like they light up and oh you can see some movement from third person. No we're talking about actually readable numbers and information on the dashboard, and gauges that light up and are multicolored and FUNCTION. This is a first time for the GTA series and I believe with it will come first person cockpit view. I have a great feeling about it.
