Help with chat not working please, PS3

I'm hoping someone can help me out with a problem I'm having. Basically voice chat isn't working, I can't hear anybody.

 

I bought a cheap bluetooth headset a while back, registered it to my PS3. It worked ok but the sound quality was muffled and poor so I never really used it.

Everything worked though and I could still hear my crew members etc through my TV. Then a couple of weeks ago the chat stopped working, There were no chat Icons next to any players names anymore either.

 

On Friday night I tried the cheap headset again and I could hear everyone again (although muffled) but when I turned it off again all the chat stopped again however when I switched the headset off, just as it went from on to off I could hear everyone for 1 - 2 seconds through the TV but then it went again.

 

Yesterday I bought an official PS3 wired headset. Removed the Bluetooth one from the devices and tried it but still nothing still no chat and no chat icons on any players.

I've rest the sound options to default ingame and reset all the PS3 settings back to default but still nothing.

 

Can anybody help me out? Must be an option or setting somewhere that I'm missing?

Try the chat option in the Interaction menu.

 

Hold down the Select button until menu pops up.

Scroll down to the chat option.

Choose who you want to chat with.
