With 1200$ PC (only box, without monitor, etc.) you should be able to run Crysis, thus GTA 6.

so far so good. I'll have to figure out what next to get in the coming months. By time November hits, my rig will be fully ready :)

what should I get next? The processor? Let the building begin lol.

phantom 410 case in red color $118

Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 AMD AM3+ DDR3 ATX USB3.0 Motherboard $79.99

I have these so far in person now :),

What your budget and currency? I glanced at it, is it Candian? Edited by Andreas

You could build a computer under $1000 that'd run GTA V. Not at the highest settings, obviously, but decent enough.

No, you could build one for $1000 that will play GTA V with max settings.

Do not rush a rig ( for a game like GTA V, it's not that good of a game, just overhyped.) In the end, it would be a better idea to save more and surpass the console specs (PS4 mainly)

Because you already have the case and motherboard, then I assume those two items are not included with your $500 budget?

If $500 is for the entire PC, then it's not a good move to spend over $100 on a case.

Both do not include OS, add about $100 for the OS. Best thing for you to do is save up so you can get a better build.

What the hell is point of buying motherboard and case if you can't afford other things? It is better to save the money and then buy everything. And if 500$ is limit for rest of hardware, why the hell did you buy 110$ case??!

Not to forget that Windows 8 is not compatible with a lot of older software, including old videogames. I'm not sure if this has been fixed already, but at least that was the case the last time I checked. That's one of the reasons why I haven't upgraded to it yet. Maybe I will skip it altogether and wait for W9 in the hope that it's a better OS overall.

There is a pattern with Microsoft's Operating Systems, you could almost think it's intentional. Windows XP was great for its time, and when Vista arrived the market it was a mediocre OS at best. I remember all the problems it had and the insane RAM requirements, although it was fixed for the most part with Service Pack 2. Windows 7 wasn't much different than its predecessor, but it had no problems at all and it managed to do some things better. Windows 8/8.1 isn't so good, according to some people I know. I've also tried it myself a few times and it wasn't quite pleasant to me. Let's hope that Windows 9 won't continue to use that Metro UI, and if it does then the least they can do is to give us the option to use the W7 UI.

that's what I'm doing. I'm just buying slowly by slowly. In about 4 or 5 months or so my rig will be fully built. It'll probably be like $700 around there maybe. I love my new motherboard and my new case

I'm going to be using windows 7. I hate 8

No that is not what you are doing. You get money and you buy it :S Instead get money, save it, and in 4-5months buy everything, In that time prices will probaly drop.

... what? neither of those issues occur for me, or any of my contacts who use 6.2/6.3 since release time -- and my selection of software is all but typical. In fact, I upgraded to every system since Vista the day it came out - less legally, of course; although I do own Windows 8 retail licenses thanks to the lovely $40 promotions Microsoft ran around release.

In addition, Vista wasn't horrible at all, it was the people trying to run it on ancient systems that caused its bad reputation (and even then I ran it just fine on a box with 1 GB of RAM and a fairly slow single-core processor, though back then I mainly did web development work rather than gaming) - and the main part people hate about the Immersive platform interface (the actual codename for what people call 'Metro') will be changed in a future release anyway -- and there's even free third-party offerings that do the exact same!

Yeah I don't get why so many people hated on Vista.

I had it on my PC years ago and had no problems playing games or doing just day to day work on it.

It was a change from XP, and people hate change apparently. Don't know why they love 7 so much though. It uses the same kernel as Vista...actually, it literally IS Vista but with some changes.

http://www.techhive.com/article/153624/windows_7_under.html

Haters gonna hate. But Windows 8 does in fact uses less memory than Windows 7, and games DO perform better on the OS.

I know quite a few people who were using Vista on their laptops and had some trouble with the OS. Admittedly, that wasn't the case for everyone. Affected were mostly the ones who had 1-2GB RAM and a low-end dual-core processor, or even lower. Obviously not everyone had problems with Vista when it came out in 2007, because I myself know people who had none. SP1 and SP2 solved the problem for many, except the ones who were running it on really ancient hardware.

On the subject of Windows 8, the compatibility issues with ancient software (has there been any solution for it yet?) aren't the only thing as to why I haven't upgraded to it. I'll look into it more.

OP, you have been mislead. You'll only have to pay 5k for a PC if you want to run GTA V in 6 different windows.

Actually you can build a gaming PC for ~600$ that will run game just as good or even better than the consoles. Yeah it still costs more, but think of the money you`ll save with sales, where you pick up a game you like for 5$.

I personally have built myself a PC worth ~ 1100 euros. I think it was totally worth it. I can run any game that I have on the highest possible settings with FPS never dropping below 60, all my game library runs on the PC since PC is a backwards compatible gaming system. I get most of the games on sales where the price is 10 euros instead of 40. And this PC will serve me for gaming purposes until the next consoles appear and even further if I won`t decide to upgrade until then. There are many reasons why I think PC is better, it`s just that casual console gamers see PC as this complicated and expensive thing and the "PC master race" morons keep making it worse.

-Would my PC run GTA5?

Absolutely!

-Would it run on ultra settings with everything maxed out?

Most likely yes.

-Would the framerate still be good?

Depending on the port. Probably 30+ (which consoles will probably be locked at)

-Do you need a 5000$ PC to have a great gaming experience?

Only if you want to run 3 Crysis games at the same time on 4k resolution each on ultra.

-Would a 600$ PC run GTA5?

Yes!

-Would it be maxed out?

No.

-Will it looks as good or better than consoles?

Most likely yes.

-Will it run smoothly?

Chances are that yes.

There you go. As someone who is not an expert on PC parts, but has experienced different setups, I can say that it is 101% guaranteed that you don`t need a 5000$ PC for gaming. A 500$ could even do the job, just not maxed out. Only problem on PC you might face is the terrible porting. For consoles there are only 2 sets of hardware so it`s easier to optimize it for them. With PC there are thousands of different setups so it`s a bit difficult, but most of the games manage to optimized decently. Some could do better, but it`s nowhere near the point where you need a 5000$ PC just to run it.
