As has been said many times before, it's not like GTA0 is meant to be, or could be, a substitute for internet porn. The real question here is what are all the market forces and stakeholders that determine Rockstar's apparently inconsistent policies on adult themes?

 

I suspect that the console companies (Sony and Microsoft) are key decision-makers in this crazy process. They are the inconsistent purveyors and profiteers of all manner of virtual violence, while being generally more prudish than youtube when it comes to nudity. The amazing thing is that any tits at all made their way to the screen in GTAV and RDR, and Max Payne 3.

Im not sure enough about what point your tryna make to fully address what your saying, but it doesn't seem to make sense that any parents/ feminists would be successful in petitioning material in an online game that their young children technically aren't old enough to have any bidness playin in the first place.

 

And if there were such a petition, it would seem to me that people would have to confirm its in the game first and then protest.

 

Besides, Why would they only remove it online anyways? Those same kids still have access to the nudity in GTAV, so I don't think feminists or kids have much to do with it from what I understand.

My theories:

 

1. The nipples and vaginas were taking up too much bandwidth

 

2. R* wants you out playing the game instead of sitting inside the Vanilla Unicorn fapping all day

 

3. Online games have different rules as to what amount of nudity they can show.

 

4. Either Microsoft or Sony put the kibosh on it for legal or ethical reasons.

But with what you said in mind, I do think Sony/Microsoft reasoning with online services was likely the biggest factor.

 

I just find the "nipples are offensive, but murder is ok" type people hilarious. No matter if it was a R* or MS/Sony decision - it all comes from that.

I believe the case might be that sex is generally considered more explicit than violence as far as society goes.

 

I think that may be due to the fact that It seems easier to "cartoonize" violence than it is to do so for sex. That's why violence can range from "cartoon violence/ comic mischief" to "intense blood and gore". The implication of violence is very severe in GTAO, but the censor present is that RPGs and explosives don't cause blood and guts to go flying around. It gets capped.

 

As far as sex goes, the strippers and hookers can imitate sexual acts with the animated gestures, but the titties are either in or they're out. Not much room for a middle lol. Neither does there seem to be a "kid friendly" implication of sex that would get anyone's interest.

 

Ultimately it does seem contradictory to include strippers that don't "strip" and then at the same time only censor it online, but hey, what difference does that really make? Everyone has said this already: anybody looking to get off on boobs is better suited to just going straight for porn.

 

(Not that I condone that or anything -.- lol I'm just saying.)

It's simply that in storymode the strippers tops magically disappear while they are offscreen, but as there is no moment where this is possible online (as other players can be inside the backrooms just by walking in) R* just left them as they are and didn't bother with a work-around.

 

 

If there was any other reason for it, there wouldn't be topless chicks walking around at the playboy mansion.

Current consoles would freeze when 16 players meet with 16 naked fully open boobed whores online along with them 'thats 32 nipples being rendered at the same time' along with some wildlife. So nipples had to be removed along with wildlife and heists where still just a lie.

R* should add nudity, because that's where most parents would draw the line. Imagine a parent walking into their 12 year old son's room and finding his online character taking shower topless( NO GTA time for a long time for that kid) I think this would help get rid of some of the squeakers.
