There are millions of players on GTAO. Most popular ones, and variations are taken. Should of have seen that coming, OP. It comes by nature with popular games.

Taking an unused crew name and never use the crew and let it rot. Rockstar Games really should delete crews that haven't been active more then 4 months.

this game is so buggy and lacking content that many people have quit playing it months and months ago, ive been through many crews trying to find people to keep playing with. If you dont enjoy PVP there isnt much to do after a couple weeks of playing.

It is indeed annoying. Had to use a thesaurus to get a similar name (and to sound smartified). There should be a way to request a name from a inactive crew, but I could see how that would be abused.

well if someone is having issues with a name being sniped that mean they are not too original to begin with...

I was in a crew called Wolf but,they never really contacted me until I came up with a better crew logo. Not one of them has invited or joined me online so,I abandoned them,took the name (reworked it to W.O.L.F - Weird Lost Obscene Fuxs),sent invites with no response. Not my loss.

 

Namesniping - No.Just took the ball and ran with it. I think most abandoned the original crew anyway.

Exactly, now I had to make a crew named Blume Incorporated instead of Blume Corp or Blume Corporation, as they were both taken. The latter was inactive for atleast a half a year.

This has plagued me as well....

 

Fortunately I Nevvveeer have any problems with getting the character or usernames I want, but with anything crew/gang/clan related, im always late to the party...

 

My suggestion:

 

If your going to continue to try to enact your influences, maybe you should become a hipster and stray away from the popular stuff by getting into something obscure that no one knows or cares about lol. Namesniping is never a problem for them.

 

Downside: you'll only get angry when people don't understand what you were referencing and then call them losers for liking what everyone else likes... As well as develop an affinity for plaid shirts and facial hair.

I take a little fault in this. I made a crew a couple weeks ago that I was planning on using but never did. I named it the Athletic Car Lovers for people that liked sports and cars.

Yeah it sucks if people aren't using them and just have it for the sake of having it.

They do it with PSN ID's and X-Box gamertags too.

 

Though the popular ones always get snatched up within the first 24hrs of something becoming active anyways, so meh.
