BTW, there was pretty big amount of 3s (even lambdas!) in TF2 update video, this could be something... I see 7 years of waiting has made people pessimistic about next HL but in facet, It took Valve that long because they wanted to make new HL in Source 2, and Source 2 has yet to be finished (in fact, it has to be almost finished).
