GTA: SAN ANDREAS UNUSED FILES

INTRODUCTION
Nobody enjoys having files sitting around your San Andreas copy doing nothing other than providing unecessary bloat. All of the files listed below can be safely deleted without any major consequences occurring to your game, provided you are using an unmodified installation intended for single-player usage.

FILES TO DELETE
*\anim\anim.img

*\audio\CONFIG\AudioEventHistory.txt

*\data\animviewer.dat, AudioEvents.txt, gta_quick.dat, main.sc, numplate.dat, polydensity.dat, timecycp.dat, water1.dat

everything in *\data\Decision except the Allowed folder and PedEvent.txt

*\data\Icons

*\data\maps\occlu.ipl

*\data\maps\leveldes\leveldes.ide, leveldes.ipl

*\data\Paths\NODES0-63.DAT, spath0.dat, train.dat, train2.dat

*\models\fronten3.txd

Thanks guys, that helps a lot. If there's any other files that you know of feel free to tell me them (or if you and fastman have said them all you can lock this topic if you prefer). :)

EDIT: I removed the files you guys said but the game instantly crashes when I load a save game. Is there any other instances of any of the unused files in the gta.dat or main.scm or something?

Silent told you to remove files, but some of them is used - game crashes.

Yeah, I guessed that was what the problem was. I don't suppose you know which of those are used, do you? It doesn't matter if you don't, I can try adding the files in one by one. Also, thanks for providing additional unused files. :)

furnitur.dat is also useless, but must be kept at 0 bytes.

At least that's what GTAModding wiki says.

 

Also data\main.sc and data\paths\spath0.dat as these are from VC and III.

Also some files in models\grass aren't used, details are inside Mod Loader txt documents.

 

What about these files?:

audio\config\AudioEventHistory.txt

data\Decition folder?

data\txdcut.ide?

maybe even delete the stream.ini?

but... peds.col from ValidateVersion, which has to contain 'grandtheftauto3', otherwise it's an 'invalid version'?! Fun!

The only one that works out of the bunch that I quoted is the AudioEventsHistory.txt file. The "Decision" folder crashes when the GTA: San Andreas splash comes into view and removing the "txdcut.ide" file crashes when the loading bar reaches half way. :)

@NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM, you're right. I have forgotten about peds.col

 

IDE and IPL files - they will be unused if not loaded from default.dat or gta.dat

decision contains a lot of unused files in another format though; check the first line for them (or check the EXE for which files are actually loaded)

It's not really for freeing up space, it's just that I wanted to know if there were any more files just sitting around not doing anything. And plus I couldn't find anything related to this on Google either. :blush:

actually peds.col is used,if you don't have it,the game just crashes after clicking on the exe

wheels.txd in generic folder, vice city wheels which I love and would love to see used <3

i think that you can just enable the wheels in default.ide and then modify vehicles.ide

I apologize for bumping an old topic but according to the ps2 files,in the "decision" folder only pedevent.txt and the allowed folder are necessary

It seems you can safely delete the other files,the game loaded with no crashes for me

 

Also main.sc from data folder can be safely deleted,I opened it and seems to be a leftover from III/VC as it mentions vehicles such as the Stinger and the III A.I. Heli

 

You can safely delete also train1/2.dat and spath0.dat from paths folder,again leftovers from III and VC

 

occlu.ipl seems to be unused aswell,it's not mentioned in gta.dat

 

same goes for leveldes.ide/ipl
