The assault SMG is pretty good as I will always go for the head. Their range is limited, so like many people on this thread I'll stick with an SMG when I'm too far for an effective shotgun kill, and a little too close for the assault rifles.

 

And yes, concerning realism, GTA and firearms just never really goes hand in hand. I think we must put our anal-retentiveness to the sidelines because they're never going to make it at all realistic. M1928 Thompson uses, as pointed out, a .45ACP cartridge. Whereas the Machine Gun, which seems to be a PKM, uses a big rifle cartridge (7.62x54) whilst the 'Assault Machine Gun', based mostly on the M249 SAW (FN Minimi) fires the NATO standard 5.56x45. So yeah, guns be silly in GTA but they still do the job. /rant

Does anyone ever use SMGS in general? (During a mission/free roam war/ or DM's) or are they just considered obsolete since the Assault rifles are better in everyway? Oh and

Assault shotgun OP, because this can't be an official "Rexpower" thread without me complaining about something for my loyal fans.

So with that being said, what's your guys take on the SMGS?

Are they worth the extra $$ spent on them or just garbage?

I use them when I'm fighting noobs who couldn't even kill an unarmed NPC if they tried (lol). Wanna unlock all the colors, but it's harder winning fights against stronger players with weaker weapons. I save my MG and rifle ammo for the better players.

 

Or when I'm doing missions and don't want to waste ammo from my better weapons. Especially survivals. I can usually complete survivals with just the SMG and the minigun.

 

I played from the beginning before the special carbine was available to everyone at any rank, so I just naturally collected all of the weapons one at a time. Have em so might as well use em.

I use the Assault SMG against players (even though its not an SMG its a PDW that uses a rifle round)

i tend to use the SMG in missions

I love using the Gusenburg to push around the cars that people are using for cover. Definitely the one SMG I use the most.

Gusenberg is a mg though.

 

it's based of the thompson submachine gun

it's right there in the name

it fires .45 ACP (pistol) cartridges though with the damage the thing has in this game it sure feels more like an MG or something

2021 and Katie is still here using the humble SMG, for pretty much everything; missions, business battles, freemode encounters. At least in PvE, skill can compensate for lack of power. I normally go for headshots, then burst fire and if all else fails, a full auto rampage, heh

 

Just as I'm a fan of using helicopters over the stupid flying bikes and cars, I'm also a fan of using the good old black MP5 over the new-age, metallic blue G36 that my character also has
