Stood on top of Eclipse Towers I could see a bunch of dots moving around on the map in Rockford Hills where the parallel roads are, next to where the police station is, but could I see the players through the scope? I couldn't see sh*t through the scope! Except a fleeting glance of random car (before it vanishes in front of my eyes) and occasionally when a player gets into a car they're visable, and some trails of bullets being fired...

 

I wish they would make the scope work properly.

Yes cars usually load a bit better so I'm usually sniping invisible people through windshields and off motorcycles.

I feel them same way but I just learned to live with it. I'll just see if I can find a different building to snipe from that's closer. If you cant a new perch near you, think outside the box and look to see if there's a different angle to snipe from. When the PS4/xBox One comes, it'll (hopefully) be alot better.

R* broke it after people whined about tank sniping.

Its stupidly random, sometimes I can see clear into the LSC from Tinsel, other times I can't even see the 4-way 200 meters away.

I was on the tall crane right by eclipse towers and I sniped guys at the LSC along with anyone near the ponsonbys in rockford hills. Its not that bad.

The sniper is still useable though.Just look at the movement of the vehicles,you may get a kill.Although things from a far didn't render,cars and pvs(especially pv) will render and the bullet will certainly hit your target.

Console limitations. This is one of the few reasons I can't wait for GTA5 on my XboxOne.

I don't care about the graphics, I just want the technical limitations and restrictions of last gen removed.

This is why i dont ever bother with pvp while using a sniper unless they are in a jet/chopper. The render distance is like half the minimap and sometimes you will render to them through their scope yet theyre invisible through yours. The sniper is almost as useless as the broken bottle

I hope if they extend the range, they also make it so the longer the distance the less accurate (e.g. pointer moves around a bit) or similar, so a perfect long distance shot takes more skill to pull off.

That'd make getting the perfect long distance shot more rewarding, and mean free roam wont get full with people just picking off randoms all the time.

It's the rendering that caused the freezing. Notice how you rarely freeze now? The distance definitely had something to do with it. Loading objects ahead colliding with other players such as crashing into pedestrians or knocking down signs created overloads at some point.

Considering the fact that the Heavy sniper rifle can kill in a single shot, the fact that you can snipe anyone who is rendered through your scope and the fact the there's no wind to inflict in the bullets path, I can say it's OK for me.
Imagine if you could snipe people from 5 km away from you, wouldn't that be OP as hell????
Just imagine the campers at LSC exploiting this.

It would be better if the game wasnt running below 30fps. The slightest movement either moves the crosshair to far or not enough, this is especially true at long ranges. Have fun lining up a shot at medium range while the other guy is spraying 750rpm down range at you. The movement isnt smooth enough to be effective against people who are aware of your presence. Their is a very small window of effectiveness any further and targets dont render any closer and you get ripped up by automatics. So to me its useless in almost every situation except for against jets/helis to each his own though of course.

I used to use the broken bottle in the original Coveted when doing it solo, I'd run down to the first guy and shank him with it then snipe the enemies that could actually do any damage/kill you whilst you wait for & use the cargobob.

 

 

SpidersWeb has the right idea, increase the range but reduce the accuracy by having the gun 'wavering', so you have to pull the trigger at the exact moment the crosshairs are on the target or you don't stand a chance.

render distance used to be greater but they nerf it when they removed tank sniping a couple patches ago.

 

since, you can barely see players in the ground from top of buildings and you cant see players on foot if they go past the 1 block radious, which sucks!

This is why PS4/PC/Xsh*t are gonna suck. Spawn, sniped from 6 blocks away by a guy on a roof top and repeat. The heavy sniper will quickly become hated...

Ya, it sucks.. easier to just sit your tinsel towers apartment and hope the stickies you put on the LSC door will do the job. Sucks that we can't trigger stickies while viewing through the telescope.. that's probably the same issue as the scope though.

1,679 player kills says no.

Know the draw distance roughly for other character models, and within it, have good cover. Outside it, read the map and fire based upon it. You can (and I have) shot people out of wallglitches doing this. 2+ block radius necessary.

 

The sniper is not useless, at all.

That's true and agree because I have a lot of sniper kills but there are a lot places in the city where you would normally think the scope should be able to see players... but nothing shows up.

 

There's a high rise just south of Vinewood LSC that I like to sit on and snipe. I can't see players on their motorcycles but I do see the bike moving when they exit the building so I have to take a lucky shot and hope it hits.. and it does, maybe 10% of the time? Much harder to hit people in cars/trucks but I've done it a few times.

It better be better on the ps4 version! Its f*cking annoying how "console limitations" render a weapon almost useless.

This is true. The draw distance was decent at first, the tank sniping days were glorious. It's still possible to snipe people through walls if they are out of your sight though. I've done this dozens of times, and you can still snipe aircrafts out of your sight also.

Another stupid rant added to the list...

 

 

Anyway, the hardware is almost 10 years old, give or take a few years. Increase the render distance and you make the game near unplayable. It won't be a problem for current gen and PC versions of the game.

OP the PS4 version will cure that problem. I can't wait for it, and hopefully with the increased draw distance comes different variety of scopes, hopefully night ones as well.
