SamuraiSword3
I've been wondering is Vice City a Prequel or a Sequel to Liberty City? There are many things that make it both but it has to be one or the other. In Vice City when Avery introduces to Donald Love, he is a lowly person working for Avery, and ironically Avery gives you the same exact mission that Donald gave to you in Liberty City. So is that before Donald moved to Liberty to become a rich and corrupt real estate owner, or is it that when Donald Love moved to Vice City when he disappeared from Liberty,so he got a small job to lay low. Then in Liberty its the 90's and in Vice its the 80's. All of this would make Vice City a prequel, but on the official site made by Rockstar it said something about Tommy just making it out of Liberty and the mafia is after him in Vice. So Does anybody know for sure what Vice City is?
crazdhowlrmunkee
its definitly a prequel. based in 1986, 80's styles, music, and stuff. liberty wasnt just *created* in the 90's, in the GTA gameworld, its always been there and vice has always been there. love got the 'gang war' line from avery, then he moved to liberty to make his 'empire' or whatever...... but in the film studio theres a street from liberty city that (based on logic) has all the recent movie posters of the GTA 90's/01's. hmmm..... makes you wonder if GTA3 was a movie made in vice city about the future, in the 80's. jeez im ranting on and on i should shut up EDIT: in GTA3 it never actually said what the year was, but from the [email protected] building (internet cafe) and lack of 80's (or possibly 70's) trends it definitly the present crazdhowlrmunkee
makeshyft
i can never get over this... gta3, is set in present day, in relation to when it came out, 2001... vice city, is set in 1986... so the oly way it could ever be a sequel, is if someone from gta3 stumbled upon a time machine... y2kcrazyjoker
It's neither..... even though it takes place in the 1980's, it's set in its own universe with different characters. It's a whole new game.

aggressor27
I know that you moron. i know its in 1986. Any retard would know that, did you even read what i said. If you know that then why did you ask a stupid question? Here SamuraiSword3, since you want to be a dick, I'll dumb it down for you. In the "game world" GTA:VC is a prequel because it takes place before GTA3 did. But since it came out after GTA3, marketing wise it would be considered a sequel. Even after the fact, GTA:VC makes several references to characters in GTA3, ie Donald Love and Phil Cassidy. So it's a prequel. Now, I'm sorry, that was the best I could do, considering I don't have any crayons. If you still don't understand, just read this paragraph again, only, pretend elmo is reading it to you. smart
It's neither..... even though it takes place in the 1980's, it's set in its own universe with different characters. It's a whole new game. Actually... that's not true. It's not in a different universe, it's just in the past. Several characters from GTA3 are in GTA:VC (Phil, Donald Love). In fact, Donald Love's real estate gang war speech was taken right from Avery Carrington. Anyway, it should also be noted that the "Dead Skunk in the Trunk" mission involving the Manana with the dead body in the back makes mention of the "Forelli brothers." faustianbargain
I think Vice City is also a good introduction of how the Mafia in GTA 3 got into the drug business. At the beginning of Vice city, they are saying how the family "won't touch that sh*t" And Forelli says that they can't just turn their backs while rival gangs make all the profits. We find out how Donald Love became the powerful man he is in GTA3. We learn about Lazlow, Fernando and Toni's roots and where they were on the radio before GTA 3. Vice gives the impression that Liberty City was somewhat peaceful at one time with not too much gang trouble. Then at the end of Vice City, Vercetti is in charge of it all and that's probably when Liberty City went "bad". There is so much more to explain... beavis
neither a prequel and of course not a sequel, just a Spinoff of the series.
urban
i agree its neither .....its just another gta game but i do think they should put a sequel to this one ....it rocks ...or both gta 3 and vice city ...would be cool or just totally drop the gta series.....and come up with a different name and a lil different approach but keep the genre alive...
