One of my ex university lecturers told me to get rid of it before he passed my site on to his friend at R*,

He said that it's my professional portfolio and I'm not supposed to have them?. I don't see why? But I wasn't going to argue.

 

Meh. I guess that makes sense. At least you reminded me to overhaul my portfolio, too many small projects that aren't worth the look of an employer.

 

Good luck. I'm sure you won't have problems finding a job.

So.. You all want different stuff at this point, so today I thought I'd relax and start making CJ a fitted. It might change to a snapback to stay true to CJ's clothing, but times have changed.

These bodies are pretty similar, I think that this white body should be a bit more fat (or beefy) to fit perfectly on your CJ drawing. Will you cut this white guy's head off? '='

Haha the white guy looks a bit tough... He might put up a good fight, but sure that will save me a lot of time :D

If R* brought him in as DLC and he looked any other way, it wouldn't feel like him to me.

@Aleph-Zero, They wear Los Santos fitted in GTA V :) once I've made a plain hat, I'll be able to make loads of designs!

Edit: Please dont change the face of CJ anymore :O it looks nearly perfect there is just one little thing i saw (u probably did it because of the realism) but the left eye seems a little bit more opened than the right one , it really looks a little bit weird :)

It's mostly just me, but I don't think you should do another San Andreas character. There are a bunch of remakes of SA characters, but few of any other game (excluding Tommy and Claude). I suggest doing a character from another game, but it's your choice.

Hey Almico! Now I can admit, my first post into this thread was originally 3 times longer than what was actually posted. With the cut paragraphs providing ambitious ideas for the future of the mod. But in the end I decided to cut my ideas, thinking it would be best if only the model itself should be focused on at the time. But now a month has passed and the model only getting better, I can now share my ideas for the potential of this mod! (despite none of these being that new by now, but I digress)

 

You of all people should know, that whilst important, the model itself is only one aspect of bringing a character to life and into the world. With the other aspects being - animations, interaction with its environment, integration into the game and customisation, all of which I will elaborate further. And due to how believable your model of CJ is, it would be criminal (badumtss) to not take advantage of the outstanding potential of this project.

 

Animations - Not much to delve into with this. Just adding to recognition seeing CJ run and walk (at least similar) to how we're accustomed to in SA. As well as adding distinction from the other playable characters. I also feel if CJ had generic animations or say Franklins, it would take you out of the character.

 

Interaction - Hearing CJ interact with what's happening to his environment would add greatly to both recognition and believing he indeed exists in the world, not to mention the nostalgia hearing all his trademark phrases again! And with literally thousands of audio-files to play with, it would make sense to use them!

 

As I mentioned earlier, I experimented what CJ's voice would sound like dropped a few decibels in Audacity, giving him an older. Below are links to my result, as well as the source for a reference to compare.

Integration - This is essentially aiming to integrate CJ into the mechanics of the game, to the point where it feels as if he was always there. And due to this, having CJ as not a replacer is important. But instead extending on top of the main three. The most obvious hurdle with this idea is the character wheel, with all four slots being utilised. And after experimenting, your reddit comment suggesting to keep the online character accessible in the menu, then placing CJ in the fourth slot is the best idea for the project. I have a second idea that would accommodate for multiple custom characters. Hold down L1 (or Xbox/PC alternative) then down to open up a second accessible character menu, were you then choose your character. I've made mock-ups to help visualize both ideas below

Customisation - Why I love San Andreas, is that the game allowed CJ to be whoever you wanted him to be. And because of this, everyone has projected their own idea of who he is! So providing the choice for the player to decide who they want CJ to be, would lead to a minimal amount of fanboy outcry, and stay true to San Andreas fashion. I would love for CJ to start out in his classic wife-beater singlet and jeans. Its his trade-mark and most recognizable outfit, representing a clean canvas for the player to project their image of CJ onto him. So if they want an entrepreneur business CJ with a suit and clean shave, they can do it. Or maybe they want a bearded CJ sticking to the streets repping the families they can do it!

 

Grove Street - I know I've said way too much already. But as we all know, nothing is more of an inevitability than a 'Take back Grove Street' mod happening. Its not widely known, but the voice actor for Franklin, Shawn Fonteneo,voiced a Grove Street Member in San Andreas. In the dialogue he's constantly dissing the Ballas and more importantly, referring directly to CJ. This could be used for possible CJ and Franklin interactions. And Just imagine a mission with CJ, Franklin, Sweet and Lamar were you take back Grove Street to its rightful owners!

Lastly, whilst I would love for these ideas to happen (as I imagine most would) I hold no expectation for you (Almico) to do anything. You're a character designer so it would be simply unfair expecting you to try and tackle everything I've suggested. But once we've opened up inside the game, and can actually see how much is practical, perhaps people who know what they are doing could give their help for the other aspects.

Haha I'm honestly really sorry that ended up being so long! I think I have a problem where I can't just casually do something, but have to articulate myself as much as I can on it. Thus the essay :p I totally get how polarising it must be though :p
