Worried about performance

Some people say that the ARMA franchise is poorly optimized. ARMA is a huge and very complex game yet I do agree it is poorly optimized. There is no doubt.

I bought ARMA III and I can run it at High settings, with some settings set to Highest and Ultra.

Thing is, when I bought GTA IV for PC for about two months ago, it performed like crap before I updated it. Even now it suffers with pop-ups.

I had more issues with GTA IV then with ARMA III.

That makes me wonder: How will it be when GTA V is released for PC?

With the advent of the next generation consoles and the considerable development time between both games, optimisation is not likely to be an issue. Rockstar will have refined the engine to make efficient use of a system's resources. (With that said, people should not expect the game to perform admirably on an average laptop or multimedia desktop. A dual-core CPU and entry-level graphics will not be sufficient!)

The issue with GTA IV was really that it wasn't made from the ground up, it was a sloppy port from the Xbox 360. From Max Payne 3 the standard has been making the games from the ground up for the different platforms, and Max Payne 3 for PC was a masterpiece of optimisation, and I believe V will follow.

Aye, this.

If V is as bad as IV in terms of optimization (or worse), you can personally come to my house and sh*t down my throat. I'll buy the plane ticket and everything.

I think PC is the lead platform this time. All the sweetness and goodlooking in the first trailer. That can never be on consoles.

Have you watched the gameplay trailer footage from PS3? After all, the gameplay trailer looks exactly as the final version of the PS3 version.

R* has been working on the PC version a long time ago before the game was released for last gen consoles

It won't be like Watch Dogs, don't worry. The next gen versions of GTA V were all done alongside the last-gen versions, so you can expect it to be optimized well. But keep in mind that this is an open-world game with lots of memory in it, so I recommend a good 64x bit computer(unless the game is cross platform, which I doubt it will be due to the many ways games are developed these days).

I think that if you have 3+GB of RAM, a Core 2 Quad or i3 and at least a GTS 450 you're ok, but less than that, you may experience lags....

3GB is a bit low mate.. but other than that, if requirements are really that low, I'll be really happy. Cause my PC is nothing special and I'm wondering if I should pre-order or see how it performs on my hardware first. If it runs well, this will be actually the very first game I buy.

IMO, At least you have 4GB+ and an i5 with GTX 650Ti you will be fine :)

IF they optimize for PC

Don't worry, it will be optimized compared to the hell-hole that was GTA IV ;)

I am thinking wit the amount of clutter on the game now for PC I dont think my 660 Ti card will hold up.. I am going to wait to buy it and watch some PC'ers on YT play it and see how their system handles it.. If it looks laggy for them I might upgrade my card.. Everything else on my PC is fine.. I got a 3820 sandy chip and 16 gigs of 2800 ram.. And a 250 gig SSD drive.. but the game will go on a HD set aside for games.

But I am only worried about the video card.. Always an issue.

Actually I am hoping my chip blows so I have a reason to upgrade that also..

Here's my current setup, I think I should be fine.

CPU: Intel Core i7 Quad-Core 3.4GHz 2600k (watercooled)
RAM: 16GB (4x4) DDR3
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 with 2GB VRAM pre-superclocked
SSD: 256GB OCZ Vertex 4
HDD: 2TB Western Digital 7200RPM

We're not sure how it'll go, we're all judging R*'s last PC title (Max Payne 3) as what we can expect GTA V to be but we're just assuming.

Considering R* should know how badly they made IV on the PC, I'm sure they're gonna work twice as hard on making it run better this time especially after the long wait and the fact that it's practically a remastered version all around.

I think if you want to play the game with medium graphics

You need a PC with: 4GB, intel i3, GTX 660

high settings: 4GB, intel i5, GTX 670

ultra settings: 8GB, intel i5, GTX 680

ultra settings+2k resolution: 8GB, intel i5, GTX 780

no need 16GB RAM & INTEL i7 for games

I'm still deciding which line to go down for next gen, I've got the Wii U, but I'm stumped for the second choice, at-least I know that my Laptop choice will okay enough to run the PC on at least Higher-Mid graphics.

Good setup, but could maybe use a 3-4GB GPU in there. The 770 is decent on OC but it doesn't make up for the extra 2GB of VRAM. Aside from that, that rig will blaze this game.

These Specs should be able to run it at high-ish graphics (I think..)

i5 Dual Core 4210M 2.60GHz (Up to 3.20GHz)

8GB RAM

GTX 850M 2GB

750GB HDD (5,400RPM)

It's just a mid priced Laptop, so should do the trick.

I was looking at GPUs prices and decided to buy the PS4 again. I'm not going to spend U$400~U$500 for a f*cking card that'll be useless in the next 3 or 4 years. My good old PS3 did its job for 7 years like a f*cking PRO. Hail SONY!

My 460 v2 gotta deal with it when I decide to have some fun with simple trainers and mods. At least RAM and processor will... I think.. (i5 2500k 3.3ghz, 16 GB ddr3)

I hope they support directx 10, because 11 causes a big performance hit in many games. Although it would be nice to let us choose between directx 9, 10, 10.1 and 11 just like in Max Payne 3

Well game is on PS3 and Xbox 360 which are DirectX 9, so I doubt they gonna remove it for PC.

People seriously need to stop making that comparison. First of all, what the PS3 and 360 could do has NO correlation with how the PC version will work. Not only that, but the PS3 and Xbox don't use DirectX 9. Xbox uses something similar made specifically for it (I like to call it DirectX-Box). PS3 uses something completely different all together.

And lastly - we're not getting the same version the last gen consoles got. WE'RE GETTING A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT VERSION, even according to the bug logs, we're getting DX11 and 64 bit.

As for the person who said there was a big performance hit with DX11 compared to the others...that's simply not true. DX11 is the most optimized direct x API to date. Upgrade your hardware instead of trying to hold PC gaming back.

Give us ONE good DX11 game instead of trying to accommodate LEGACY hardware that uses DX9/10
