Will next gen users be able to play with current gen?

I've had this question stirring in my head now even before the news was made official for next gen. My assumption is that next gen users won't be able to coincide the world of current gen users, but what are your guy's thoughts on that? Do you even think it'd be possible to make the two come together? Will this make some of you reconsider switching over/ not switch over to another generation?

But I'm hoping I'm wrong. Otherwise I'll have to go back to using my X360 whenever me and my partner want to play at the same time. No way in hell we're buying two Xbones.

Unfortunately no. I hope what I heard is correct though and we'll be able to transfer our stats from the PS3/Xbox 360 versions over to any of the PS4/Xbone/PC versions. I really don't want to have to redo all I've done Online just because I'm switching to the PC version from the 360 version.

and even on xbl where it was always paid, separation is an incentive to make people upgrade to the newer system.

My only wish is that PS4 could go in lobbies with XB1.

I still don't understand why - to this day, in 2014 - we have 'seperated' consoles.

There is a clear "Console War" going on between the 2 consoles, why not include a mode, that allows players from the 2 consoles to "fight" each other for their chosen brand.

No it won't be possible due to the difference between the capabilties of the PS3/4.

 

However I'd like to ask a question, if I decided to take up the next gen version of GTA V

and swap my PS3 online over would I still be able to play it on PS3, I have a feeling I

might have to start over as I don't think my friends will upgrade.

Denser traffic on next gen is pretty much a confirmation of NO. Unless last-gen'ers want to hit invisible traffic everywhere

This has nothing to do with denser traffic! Each console is built with different components, and OS's and there is no compatability between them. This is why you cannot put an xbox360 game into an Xbox one and play it. You cannot even be in a party across consoles.

 

You will not be able to play with someone on a different console, in the same way and for the same reasons you cannot do this with any other game that is cross gen.

 

However, all information and stats should transfer, this is because all this information is stored in R* social club servers. This is the same way that CoD transfers stats and progress across consoles for example.

thats a lie. PS 2 and 3 had backwards compaitability! an could play games frm the previous gen.if they wanted to , they could develope and make it so . but theres more profit in forcing people to pick one an encouraging the so called 'console' wars. and if you can't play on one console with people on the opposite then it requires you to buy both. which means there sales might fluctuate but 'hard core' gamers will buy both/or all the consoles that are released so they can play any and all games that they want that might be released and aren't subject to the annoyance that is 'exclusive' titles , which means if you are a die hard Xbox player you might miss out on a PS exclusive. which i find annoying being a person who doesn't have infinite funds to spend on every new console/game that i might wanna play >.< so i have to pick based on which one might have more games that'd i'd like or that seems to have better control schemes/meets my personal tastes.

 

I think it'd be nice if they'd just merge companies an focus on /one/ console developd by all three perhaps we'd eventually have the developement of true VR tech cause at this point >.< they definitely have the money and a level of technology where it would be possible to develop.

I have a couple of friends who have the PS4

they have COD Ghosts on PS4 i have it on PS3 and NO we cant

when they sign in on the PS4 they are invisible to me, BUT they can see me and if i am online......we can message each other but thats it

 

In a side by side comparison the PS4 offered a lot more detail ect that was not seen on the PS3, I also saw some oldgen/nextgen games offered bigger lobbies of players for the nexgen

 

I had hoped we could play together but after seeing the difference, i understood why not

 

I plan on buying a next gen myself, but am waiting to see if the next models released (PS4) have some backward compatibility programmed in.....as i dont trade games if i like them..hell i still fire up the orginal PS1 Need for Speed on occasion, or Road Rash

Final fantasy 14 has cross play between ps3,ps4 and pc, because the game is virtually the same except for graphical upgrade. Last gen and current gen version of gta v won't be completely similar.
