How big do you think the game will be (in gigabytes)?

Okay maybe not that accurate of a comparison of that last shot but the way the hill looks is similar but there is no mountain. Close enough lol.

TBH, the PC SS looks kinda ugly to me, except the depth of the field there, which is really awesome.

There's no way the game will be more than 60Gb. GTA 4 was only 30, and of course it's a massivly different game, the fundmentals will be similar, which won't affect file size TOO much. I would say max of 60Gb. Buying a 60Gb SSD was a bad choice in the first place though.

 

GTA IV is 15.5GB on Steam install. A 60GB SSD is more than enough, if you already got a HDD installed for Windows and other programs.

V won't be more than 30GB.

It really doesn't use the exact same engine. It's RAGE, sure. But a lot of things have been improved over IV.

GTA IV was 8 GB on the consoles and 16 on PC. Max Payne 3 was the one with 32 GB with all the DLC's, without DLC's it's 28 GB.

One thing, GTA V is way bigger game than GTA IV. It has bigger map, more textures, more objects, more songs etc. Shadow of Mordor, recently released open world game takes about 34 GB and 44 GB with ultra textures. There is no way that GTA V will take only 30 GB 40 GB is minimum getting into consideration more songs in PC/NG versions, better textures, better quality of TV commercials and audio, content updates. There is no need to get so worked up about something so trivial, guys. You all know who you are. Here are some facts;

 

IV and EfLC took up 15 and nearly 16GB of disk space respectively. Both, GTA IV and V use the same engine, with the most crucial difference being that V uses a newer build of the game engine. It doesn't matter that IV was a console port. It still has had textures that were better optimized and whose quality was twice as good as on the consoles. Audio quality was also an improvement over the PS3 and 360.

 

According to Sony, the game will take up 50GB of disk space on the PS4. This is anything but confirmed, though. Keep in mind that this is as big as it can get, given that dual-layer Blu-Rays provide up to 50GB of space, not more and not less.

 

In other words, nothing is truly confirmed, at this point. We do know for a fact that V can not be bigger than 50GB on the PS4, but it can be easily smaller than that.

Y'know, I still don't get it. Why is comparing IV to V invalid? Both are open-world, and also uses the EXACT SAME engine (with different version).

I had the thought of doing this calculation for awhile, Now I finally decided to do it, keep in mind this can be very off, especially the audio, since I have no idea for which quality they will go. For this calculation I will use:

 

- GTA IV Xbox 360

- GTA IV PC

- GTA V Xbox 360

 

Let's start with the map first

 

- Liberty City on the xbox 360 is 2GB

- On the PC it's 5.4GB

- That's 2.7 times as much

- This is mostly due to double the texture resolution on PC

- GTA V's map is 7.5GB

- 7.5 times 2.7 is 20,25GB

 

Now, there are a few more things to take in consideration:

- The PC\NG version has newly added assets,

- Some of the console textures are so low, I wouldn't be surprised if they quadrupled some

- Probably more that I can't think of right now.

 

Add 1 or a few GB for all of this, let's say the map is 22GB

 

 

Next stop is audio,

 

- GTA IV's audio on the xbox 360 is 3GB

- On PC it's 6GB

- It's doubled, woah!

- GTA V's audio on the xbox 360 is 5.5GB

- 5.5 times 2 is 11GB

 

Since V uses a different audio format (or a different way to pack the audio, i'm not sure which) this can be (very) inaccurate.

 

The NG\PC vession has 100 newly added songs. The radio file, audio_radio.rpf is 1.3GB, with 240 songs. So 100 songs would be...1300 \ 240 x 100 = 542mb

Double that number, we get 1084MB, So that makes a total of 12GB, rounded off. Again, track length is crucial here, so it's just an average.

 

Now a bunch of other stuff that I'll just give the estimated numbers from in GB using the same method as before:

 

- Animations: 0.66GB (cutscenes included)

- Vehicles 0.3GB

- Characters 3GB (peds included)

- Movies, 2GB (Thanks to Ash)

 

Count everything up, that's 40GB

Then I forgot a lot of smaller stuff; weapons, radar, paths, non-map textures and ofcourse the engine itself. Using my stripped down GTA4 copy I will estimate this number to about 2GB

 

I didn't take any DLC stuff into account, so i'll will take Ash's number, which is 1.2GB

 

Final size: 43.2GB

Thats a pretty good analysis.... I sort of agree with you.. It will not be more than 45... rather it would be 35-45gb.. Thats my guess.

Well, I read somewhere that the PS4 Version will be about 50GB. So assuming that the new gen and PC versions are identical, then its a pretty safe bet the game is somewhere around 43-50GB. But, correct me if I'm wrong but aren't PC versions usually larger? If that's the case, I could easily see the file size being 50-60GB.

 

But that is IF the 50GB file size on PS4 rumor is true.

 

Without that, my best guestimation is somewhere between 40-45GB.

As stated multiple times over, if Sony don't know the final size of the game, they put up the max to clear their overheads, and the maximum size is currently 50GB. It's AMAZING how much people here have freaked out about that, theyve always done this for other games but because this one is GTA, people lose their sh*t!

Hm, I'm sure other games' fan forums also have people who don't know about this and freak out, GTA just has a more united fanbase. But even with Sony's theoretical limit, shouldn't be too far from that.
