I guessed 40 to 45, guess I wasn't that far off, for PS4. PC must add 5 to 10 more GB.

The funny thing about this poll is, that the most probable guess to be right is the least voted.

Calling it now, 66% of the space goes to audio. Which imho, is really lame. I always got excited thinking about how big games could get if they utilized storage space for gameplay content, and here we are now with consoles finally standing on equal grounds at 50GB discs, and what do we get? F*cking nothing but uncompressed audio. Why? Because it gives the illusion of higher quality while also showing huge numbers "LOOK HOW BIG OUR GAME IS" and tricking people into thinking they're getting more when really they aren't.

Just use something like 192kbps 24 bit 44khz compression and watch your audio space go down to at least half or less compared to the retarded uncompressed sound files. NOBODY playing these games on their f*cking TV's are going to notice the difference. It's so retarded.

TL;DR - this game should be half the size it will be, thanks a lot asshole audiophiles

i'm going to say 35 - 40GB. developers are using higher quality assets for games now and the "ng" version of GTA V is for sure using HD textures judging from some of the screens. it won't be a small or medium sized game, that's for sure.

HD Textures isn't worth 15-20 GB. Probably just 5-7 GB.

obviously, but textures aren't the only thing that take up space. there's also audio, tv shows, radio and other things to account for.

Like I said in my reply to Spider-Vice,

1. TV shows are probably 2-5 GB max, if they're aiming for broad compatibility and playabilty, especially since V used Bink, which is bandwidth-hungry to maintain image quality.

2. Audio quality will be improved, but not that much. It won't be lossless.

Max Payne 3 is using RAGE and is 35 Gigabytes.

GTA V is using RAGE with more graphical improvements, and it's an open-world game.

I think it'll weight about 60 Gigabytes.

Max Payne 3 is using 1080p BINK cutscenes. No wonder the game itself is swelling in size.

How is that 35GB established anyway? My install is 29GB.

Me too. Steam?

I believe 35 GB is with all DLCs purchased and downloaded.

29 GB is just the base game.

So let's say GTA V is 49 GB. We could be looking at 55 when substantial DLC starts coming up, in addition to all the GTA:O updates. Though the last time I checked, those haven't been that big. At least the ones released so far...

I want Rockstar to compress the textures just like Bathesda did with Skyrim. From 35gigs to 5gigs.

How large would an entire map be? I bring this up because of the discussions regarding San Fierro and Las venturas as extensions of the existing map.

Cheers.

No idea. I'd imagine V's existing map would take up a lot of space, for sure. But I'm pretty sure that the only larger contributions it'll have in the new versions (compared to old gen) is the fact that there are better assets and textures populating it.

Even if all the audio was lossless 66% is a pretty high number. Not to mention it seems pretty odd to have lossless audio on something that isn't really going to take full advantage of it.

Also... The illusion of higher quality? Lossless audio is higher quality audio as long as it isn't converted from a lossy file format like MP3.

First, DaRkL3AD3R, that comment you made about audio and how we should just use MP3 made me want to vomit and then work out a way to punch you through the internet, as an Audio tech, just, I'm not even going to go there.

Second, the game ALREADY uses compressed audio, on PS3 it uses MP3 VBR (Radio is approx equiv to 160kbps 32Khz [80kbps per channel LEFT/RIGHT]), the Xbox 360 version uses ADPCM, which is probably what the PC will use but the higher quality version (like GTA IV did with 256kbps ADPCM).

Third, Audio has ALWAYS been a big part of GTA games, so somplaining now that most the space will be audio is just flat out retarded when pretty much every GTA game has always had Audio files larger than actual game data files (yes, even dating all the way back to GTA1!).

So ash, 90% of the people playing this game on their sh*tty consoles and TV won't even notice the difference. Why do we have to suffer such a massive waste of space for the <1% who are audiophiles. Answer me that.

F*cking audiophiles man. Most OCD people on the planet.

Yeah, it's all our fault, and has been for over 15 years:

GTA1

Data: 128MB

Audio: 622MB

GTA London 1969

Data: 116MB

Audio: 584MB

GTA2:

Data: 164MB

Audio: 290MB

GTA3*

Data: 724MB

Audio: 631MB

VC

Data: 501MB

Audio: 0.99GB

SA

Data: 1.45GB

Audio: 3.24GB

TLAD

Data: 1.50GB

Audio: 4.37GB

TBOGT

Data: 1.23GB

Audio: 4.37GB

As for the comments, around 20% of Console Gamers actually play with a sound system, so they would notice the benefit for one, most PC Gamers actually game with Headphones these days (a large portion do anyway), so they'd notice the benefits straight away as well. And finally, the game isn't using lossless audio, if it was, it'd be over 100GB, do you even know how much audio is in GTAV? Of course you don't, I'd ask you to do some research on it, but you'll only come back to me with some bias about everything being a console port or some stupid sh*t, let me guess, is large audio files a result of console ports? :p

PS: Gladly OCD when it comes to Audio formatting and Codecs.

*This GTA3 is the Steam version which has uncompressed textures.

I never contested the past ratios of audio:gameplay content. What I did say was how I hoped we'd see a shift with bigger game discs that would provide more space dedicated to non-audio content. Think about how much more actual game world and models and characters you could cram into that disc space, if you devoted say half the space currently provided for audio? You'd have less unique sound data but again, nobody gives a f*ck in the age of television speaker setups being the majority.

And what do you care? You could just mod in your own high quality sound effects like people have been doing for years anyway. I just disagree with the current scheme of filling up discs with useless audio content just for the sake of filling up discs. That seems to be the thing to do now just like how some games that used to only come in English, now have multiple language tracks available, just because they can cram it on there because there game doesn't actually have enough content to utilize the full disc capacity. Retarded.

Thanks for proving you don't actually have a single clue what you're talking about in regards to this subject matter. You've only seen the Sony Estimate size for the pre-release and you've taken that to heart and THINK it's all Audio, yet we've seen texture quality in the new trailers have a huge bump, look at the above, the ONLY time the game data has surpassed Audio was with GTA3 Steam, and that was because the game used UNCOMPRESSED textures, which are 4x the size of standard DXT-1 Compression, which hey, guess what, that's equal to using double resolution both vert and horz in texture sizes, which is USUALLY the step Rockstar take with the PC version for majority of textures. Now, I'm going to break this down for you, educate you here, here's a guess at the size...

Let's take the PS3 version as a base, that's now 18GB with all the current DLC installed (17.2GB base form), let's take a look at Audio here...

Audio Base = 6.61GB

+100 songs avg to current Radio Line Up

= 7.2GB

X1.6 if they go with ADPCM that they used with GTA IV

= 11.52GB

Movies (BINK) Base = 0.99GB

x2.0 if they increase the resolution to at least 940x540 and adjust bitrate to suit that (NOT INCLUDING ADDITIONAL CONTENT)

= 1.98GB

GAME BASE (exc Audio and Movies) = 9.6GB

Let's SAFE estimate and undervalue that the size is now X2.0 of that with the increased model detail and increased textures

= 19.2GB

DLC overall so far = 800MB

A lot of files in DLC are re-used as it's updating old same content, so let's just multiple this one by X1.5 instead

= 1.2GB

Let's add that up...

19.2GB + 1.2GB + 1.98GB + 11.52GB

= 33.9GB in its current form WITHOUT additional missions or Single Player Content or Heists

33.9GB meaning Audio would pretty much be ONE THIRD of that data.

It is quite ridiculous, but it gives me hope of there being A LOT more things in the game, possibly a whole new AREA?

I mean right now Current Gen the game is only 30 GB or so, correct?

20GB more could possibly hint towards them including something big and new?

Alright ash you know what's funny about all that? You are speculating just as much as I am. You use a bunch of fancy numbers and think this gives you any creedance. It doesn't. You're just as blind as I am right now.

No point in fighting over speculation. Time will tell who was right. And I hope it's not me. I'd rather have more actual content that can be appreciated than wasting so much space on stupid f*cking audio.

something around 58 gb size (pc)

I don't think so. That's too big for a game. I predict something between 20-25 GB.

After seeing the PS4 version apparently hitting 50gb I wouldn't say 58GB is too big for a game. I mean... If a game like Call of Duty can take 40GB then I'd expect a game like GTA 5 to break the 50GB barrier quite easily.
