GTA: Online on PC... 16? 32? 64 players? More?

Recommended Posts

Now GTA V has been finally announced for PC, how do you think Online will be? I have never played it, in fact I have only played V for 3h months ago, but I have always thought 16 was a ridiculously low amount of players for a map like V's, specially thinking of games like BF4 which have smaller maps and allow up to 64 players, being this an awesome and fun experience.

As for me, I hope they allow 64 players. It can look like a lot of players that will cause a total chaos, but isn't chaos GTA's essence? Also, 64 players would allow to have REAL gang wars on the streets, where certain players would be fighting, while others would be simply roaming around. It would be cool, i think. There would also be a possibility of participating in bigger street races, dogfights in the sky, social activities just for fun, and all with a real feeling of being in a living world, which was R*s idea from the begining.

How many players do you think will be allowed in a GTA Online server?

A mod would be able to handle more than 64, sure, but I say 32 for the official GTA Online

16 was likely a limitation from the consoles, they can easily pull off 32 players. Whether they actually go for 64 seems more like a gameplay/design decision, it might become a bit chaotic depending on the game mode. I think they'll play it safe and set the max at 32.

Well yeah, if you put 64 players and everybody's plan is going to the airport or the military base, yes, it will be pure chaos and 85% of map wasted. I still think 64 players would be an amazing experience if people "learn" to play, spread around the map and, why not, make some kind of roleplaying. Anyways, yes, I'd be ok with 32 players too, which is what is most likely to happen since IV is also set for 32 players. But please, not less than that.

Pc should be able to support hundreds like all the other MMO's.

Other MMOs don't have thousands of NPCs in all kinds of vehicles going around the giant map.

You can't compare GTAO to any other game (especially not Battlefield) because this game needs to sync enormous all the time between all players in the session.

However, they could increase players in sessions with disabled NPCs (like races with no traffic, deathmatches, etc).

I don't think so. If they wanted to, they could have scaled down the graphics and set the limit to 32.

Playstation 2 was able to handle 32 players and that was previous console

64 players, blips or no blips, would be insane. I love insane but that would be far, far too much unless the map was increased and more apartments brought in.

Imagine central LSC on a normal day.. you could easily have 20 people over there. Someone will have a tank, at least a few will be those that love to grief.. You'd get nothing done.

32 players would be awesome.

Maybe they could bring something in where the blip fades as you get closer, and becomes invisible when in closish proximity. Could be a good system to ensure 32 players ain't too chaotic. That way we still got blips to draw us together, meet, chase and what not, but not be subjected to impossible to get out of 20 player death matches with 4 tanks.

I'd love online with no blips. Imagine driving around, when suddenly an inconspicuous black Asterope pulls up next to you and guns you down.

Un-modded, normal looking cars would suddenly be in every players garage, and monkey masks and hot-pants would be replaced with jeans, a t-shirt, and some sunglasses.

I think 16 players are perfect for that map size AND features atm. Imagine you see some bounty on the map, go there and 2 seconds later it's gone. That's what happens with more players...

Agreed.... 16 is enough.

The blip system is horrible.. and the lack of stealth is is even worse.

So 16 is enough.

Nope, that's data speed limitations, and it's not getting any faster

APB Had 100 players, and up to 2 or 300 NPC's running round constantly plus hundreds of cars driving constantly.

GTA5 is an update of APB.

I think they will allow us to have up to 100 players per game. If APB cant do it then why not GTA? Also they were made kinda by the same company.
