Well when shifting the goalpost like that, sure, as for the comments "small indie game" the game that runs at 4k on the PS3 isn't some small indie game, it's actually quite a beautiful game, Okami HD, thanks to the technical wizards at HexaDrive, they run the game at 4k internal resolution on the PS3 and super sample that to 1080p, they're one of the very few companies who understood the PS3 fully, always aiming for 1080p on the console, one of their most impressive being their HD port of Zone of the Enders 2 which runs at 1080p, AA and runs at 60fps locked.

All it takes is a company like this to start doing stuff on the PS4 and I'd imagine 4k for them would be piss easy with the power, have a read of their work on Okami HD here (http://www.capcom-unity.com/gregaman/blog/2012/11/05/okami-hd-powered-by-technical-innovation-love) some impressive tricks they used to squeeze power out of the PS3 hardware.

Mark my words right here at this date and time.

In the history of the PS4's lifespan, there will not be a single game that runs at native 4K resolution. Not one.

You might want to be careful there, as there's a game running at 4k on the PS3. ;)

What? No there aren't, I'd be surprised if the PS3 could upscale to 4k. We will not see a game on the PS4 that runs at true 4k, this isn't an opinion its a fact.

If it's a fact you might want to read my post above. It kinda goes against your facts.

Resolution thread?

TBH, I'd be surprised if the PS4 managed to render a single 3D game at 1440p resolution at 30FPS (the games should at least look the same as Watch Dogs). 4K is just in its own league.

Again, depends on the game, the Lego games on PS4 render at 1200p and downscale to 1080p. You can't use Watch_Dogs as a base example as that game got downgraded every which way, just look at what dedicated teams can do with the hardware, Uncharted 4 was running at 1080p and 60fps using the real time engine. If ONE dedicated team can push 4k on the PS3 just imagine what they could do on the PS4 (as far as I know HexaDrive are not working on any PS4 titles yet).

What does that mean? They're different aspect ratios. 1200p is 1920x1200, 1080p is 1920x1080.

It's the same image but 1200p has some extra pixels on the top and bottom. 1200p can't exist at 16:9, that would be "2133.3" pixels (repeating).

"Downscaling" 1200p to 1080p would mean either distorting the AR or putting black bars on the image...

Anamorphic scaling, it's a 16:9 aspect ratio rendered at 1920x1200 and then downscaled to 1920x1080 just to give an extra bit of picture clarity and small bit on AA. Seriously, look up the tech articles on it, strange choice but hey it works for those games and as a way for the devs to squeeze a bit more out of the PS4 versions since they're not allowed to go over 30fps (to keep parity with Xbox One).

Maybe if PS4 has some strange unknown architecture like ps3 did, then maybe it would be possible for developers to find new tricks trough it's life time. But ps4 is just a plain PC with custom OS and unified memory which means that it actually has less RAM then most of today's mid-range PC's.

I used Watch Dogs as an example because its graphics pale in comparison to other, more technically advanced titles for that console. So I guess it's fair to use Watch Dogs. If it wasn't for the lack of Ubisoft's experience I have no doubt that the game could have been running at 1080p at 60FPS.

Also, do you have source for the Lego game? I swear I read an article about it which specifically stated that it was rendering the game at a native 1080p. No downsampling was mentioned, a little bit was about its AA method.

EDIT: Here's the article.

But unlike PC, PS4 is fixed, and with most consoles, that usually leads to advanced techniques and tricks over the years to squeeze more power out of it, if you keep comparing it to your computers, yeah, it seems weak, but remember Devs are going from 256MB + 256MB to 5GB in terms of RAM Power and increased Speed, with that getting bigger as Firmwares are twaked and made smaller over the years, goal being to get up to 6GB free for developers, reason they did this was because they didn't want to end up like the PS3, where they gave too much RAM back and couldn't do any features the Xbox had like Cross Game Chat, etc.

Fun Fact, there's also a dedicated 256MB chip inside the PS4 that handles all the video stuff, H264 on the fly recording, and Screen captures, this was sidelined so the video stuff wouldn't use any of the main RAM and affect games, so it has it's own pool to work with again which has been future proofed to work with newer codecs, as already seen, when the PS4 launched, it could only stream 960x540, but a recent codec update has now bumped that up to 1280x720 streaming.

Right now all we're seeing is quick PC Ports *points to all the upcoming titles "remastered" from the PC version* so it will take a while before we see something good, again, I bring up Uncharted 4, you can download the trailer at 1080p60 here: http://nd.images.s3.amazonaws.com/video/U4-E3-Teaser-FINAL-Online-HQ-5994_H266_gamersyde-update.mp4

Uncharted 4 was really something that stood out among other showings at E3. I've also seen the high bit-rate trailer. The attention to detail is impressive, Drake's character model is probably the best I've ever seen in a game. That reminds me, all Naughty Dog games seem to focus more on the character models, the faces, in particular. The rest of the environment, although highly detailed and well lit, seems a bit off when compared to the models. The last scene with the skeleton in the cage was probably the least impressive one.

There's way more than contrast and brightness..

Also, I know I'm on the PC forum, what did you think?

Do we have PC footage yet? No, so we're doing with what we've got so far, which is footage from the PS4,

if you're not happy, feel free to leave.

So the bloggers 'friend' told him it was running NEARLY at 4k super-sampled, NOT native 4k though. I have not doubt however that a ps4 could run that game with native 1080p with AA, f*ck my 3ds could run that game (in fact it was ported to the wii), lets face it it not like a game like that is going to push any technical boundaries, it's a cel shaded game with little particle effects and almost no ambient objects, it no GTA V, Watch Dogs, Battlefield or skyrim.

What your little post has shown me is that in order to run at 1080 with AA on a console, game dev must sacrifice a lot of what makes a game feel good and alive.

Can you read Japanese? Cause I can give you a link to the article which goes into detail about how they got the game running at 4k and why they opted to do so as they wanted to try out subsampling, etc.

only reason someone would pick a console over a pc is if they want to use a controller.

and even then, you could just hook up a controller to your PC.

speaking of which, I need to get my ps3 controller working, I'm worried about the driving in V on PC.

How about for accessibility and people just want it to work straight away without having to potentially troubleshoot things?

What about people who enjoy playing games with their friends?

Well the textures on PC will look a lot crispier and as U can see new grass and tress are added in deserts that would make it look a lot more beautiful

graphically complex games running in 4k is an absolute impossibility on current gen consoles (ps4/xb1). they have nowhere near the amount of gpu horse power needed to run at that resolution. hell, even some high-end gaming rigs have a hard time keeping playable framerates in newer games at 4k resolution.

as for okami HD running at 4k and being downsampled to 1080p, that's not exactly a hard thing to do considering how graphically simple the game is. anybody hoping to see PS4/xb1 rendering graphically complex games at 4k in the future are setting themselves up for disappointment.

Guys,i have a question:

Rockstar games Said the game will use the full power of the PC, but what really does it mean? Which may differ from the IV?

My processor is medium i think(i3 2130 3.4ghz)

what are the real advantages?

That probably means NVidia is going to release new hardware end of 2014/early 2015.

Also, while GTA 5 as seen currently on PS3/XBOX360 is a maxed-out GTA4, next-gen is going to top that.

Good GPU with fast RAM will be advisable.

Except absolute crap AA, otherwise GTA V looks pretty decent on the old-gen.
