Preorder month

  1. 1. When will the preorder option on steam be available for GTA V PC?

They make more $ per direct sale than they do on Steam since Valve takes a cut on every sale.

Well, tbh, the physical copies cost them money to manufacture & ship so, the Steam copy will make about the same amount of profit.

Not really. Rockstar self-publishes their physical media and its not expensive to mass produce things at the #s Rockstar do. In comparison, Valve will take roughly 20-30% of EVERY digital copy sold. Are you seriously making the argument that it costs 30% of retail to manufacture the physical? Its more like 5-8% per copy sold. There's no other reason why they hold off so long on the Steam pre-order. If the profit margin was the same, it'd have served them well to launch Steam pre-orders as early as possible, especially being that its launching relatively close to the holidays where people were itching to spend money on Steam. Instead, they mass produce the physical and sell as many of those as possible until the latest possible date. Very few companies will produce even 50% of what Rockstar will of this game at the physical level and Take Two are notorious for it. Rockstar make a lot more profit on the physical versions they sell than digital sold by Valve. Why do you think games like Elite Dangerous are not on Steam? Direct sale is always going to make more money. There's no middle man and the manufacturing costs pay for themselves after a certain amount sold. This will be the #1 PC game seller this year both physical and digital almost certainly.

What about retailers, I would call them a middleman for physical distribution, and they take a larger cut of the sale then valve does on steam.

It depends on the retailer. A lot of retailers will get a certain amount of game on wholesale, and then sell them themselves. Rockstar already has made X # of sales before a customer buys one and the retailer makes their profit via the markup. And even if wholesale was 50% of retail cost, it still costs far less to manufacture than Valve's 20-30% take on each and every digital copy.

Just wondering is rockstar really going to sell this game with 7 DVDs? why not just go blu ray? blu ray drives are becoming more standard and they are so cheap to buy.

No one knows yet.. I wouldn't listen to any "leaks" until it comes from R* themselves or an official retailer.

Blu ray drives are not standard at all. If they did that they would have looooooots of angry consumers, and I would be one. I don't have a blu ray drive. I will eventually but come on. Most PC players either have a DVD drive or not have a drive at all. When DVD drives start dissapearing just like CD drives did, then sure, but it's not the time yet. Also DVDs are cheaper to make than Blu-Rays. I'm obviously not saying that 7 DVDs is cheaper than one blu ray but it's not that expensive. And DVDs are compatible with blu ray drives. And, as I said, being most drives DVD drives, they ain't gonna make it blu ray. Edited by Leon42

DVD's will be used for years to come. When the price of Blu Ray drives comes down, then game developers would be more likely to use them.

Well even if steam still has no pre-order and there are no sys req out yet it seems this time is truly happening. Lot of stores already promoting it with the jan 27 date. Lets just hope for the best.

All aboard :p

There's no need to "just hope for the best". It's going to make the release date. Lack of pre-order/requirements has never signified anything otherwise. Only to those pessimistic enough to think it does. All of this hand wringing has been manufactured.

With the 2 pictures posted above of retailers mentioning Jan 27 as the release date, it's practically confirmed now.

More than 3 years later and it all comes down to this. This has to be the week, R* will not let us down, at least they'll show us some screens, and the glorious system requirements with(hopefully) a pre-order on Steam.

It's just left to say, 2 weeks guys! 2 weeks and the wait is finally over.

Just wanna add my pre-order card from Carrefour (Spain) showing 27 as release date :V

HVESZD3.jpg

Don't worry guys. We will be playing GTA V in a few days.

Daaaaamn. Couple days ago I uploaded a picture of the very same reserve card from carrefour and it was 40 (I'm from Madrid)

GAME stores better hurry their asses up or they are going to lose a sh*tton of sales.

I remember both Game and Carrefour had been cutting prices until the very release day of GTA V past gen. It was 48 at carrefour and 50 at Game (prices started at 65 if I recall properly)

Now its 37 on Carrefour vs 50-55 in GAME vs ¿60? In Steam.

sh*t now I wish I had a DVD Drive.... -.-

Texture-Filtering looks better or not? I guess it does.. Not sure.

I mean, am I seeing things, or are they sharper than they should?

I don't see any jaggies on them... =S

It does look better.

And yes there are very less jaggies.

But AA is not necessary at 1080p.

Depends on the game and the distance you are from the monitor.

I usually apply just a bit tho, Fxaa or 2xSmaa usually works just fine for me :)

I play like just 60cm far from the screen. (1 - 1,5m if using controller) so I notice jaggies pretty easily.

My guess:
These are X64 Dev-Kit screens with bumped up resolution and texture filtering, and even Draw Distance...
PC Version will probably look very, very similar to these screens, maybe a bit better.

They should just sell the game in key-ring form as a USB memory stick  it would become a collectors item.

It's 37€ in my carrefour because I live in Canary Islands and there is no IVA here, just IGIC. GAME stores are more expensive anyway though. I don't really think Steam will hit 60€, but who knows.
