Just stop worrying. Its not going to happen 2 weeks before launch. I can't name 1 game in the last 2 years that its happened to. Its too far into the cycle now to think it. Its coming the 27th.

This. If the game is to be released on the 27th, it needs to be in manufacturing pretty much right now. There's international shipping and everything to consider. All of that needs more than a week to happen. If the game is going to be delayed past 27th, they would know about it by now and would have announced it too.

Besides, they have already re-confirmed the release date, it's really not even a debate anymore.

There's talk that its already been manufactured. Someone on the Steam forum said over a week ago that he works at distribution and saw the boxes with the red tape. Obviously, thats not a real confirmation, but I dont think anyone would be surprised if it was manufactured and ready to go already. It'll prob start shipping this week to stores.

Rockstar Support (lol) "reconfirmed" it, and they added "We have not announced any changes to the date at this time.".

So it's not much of a reconfirmation really.

Patience, we've been waiting for over a year for most of us, 4 years for some others.

We should be getting some answers this week, probably the 13th

I hope that it is true that it will be 64-bit only.

If there is any 32-bit libraries then that would be no different than taking a Bugatti Veyron and giving it a Lada gearbox.

If it is only 64-bit then finally we will be able to run this GTA with other apps (ie a browser) running in the background without sudden stutters like we often see in GTA IV.

I would like to utilise all 16GB of my system RAM and 2GB of GPU memory without any 32-bit limits restricting the overall performance, and hopefully that will remove the pop-in bugs that IV often suffered from.

What if I told you that games can have 32bit AND 64bit binaries?

I guess after playing Crysis 1 in 64-bit & 32-bit and experiencing how badly 64-bit was optimised, I'd rather just see a game which was developed with only 64-bit in mind...

If there's an LastGen mode, which isn't quite confirmed yet, there's bound to be a 32 bit

Who said last gen mode needs to be 32 bit? Architecture has nothing to do with it. You can have a last gen mode and still require DX11 and 64 bit. If you're not using hardware/software that takes advantage of both of those things, you're doing it wrong.

What do you guys think about the release date on Steam? Do you really think they will delay the release date on Steam just to make people buy physical copies?

TBH, these days, physical copies just don't make as much sense, everything is digital these days and Steam is a great platform to download PC games from, so it would be silly of R* to hold back the Steam version...

Publishers & devs still release PC games on physical mediums because people still buy them. The reason people still buy them is because a lot of people in various territories have bandwidth caps thanks to greedy ISP's and they don't like downloading 50GB of data for every new release. So the physical copy does make sense because there will be a good deal of people who will buy them anyway. And it's not like Steam is truly necessary anyway. What will you miss out on, achievements? Lol who gives a sh*t.

Also, price. My country is in tier 2 region in Europe. I've got prices in euros even tho, that it isn't actual currency in my country. And let's take Call of Duty for example. Right after release, it's 60Euros on Steam. On the other hand we have retail shops, where after we convert price to Euros, it gives us something around 30Euros. So it's half cheaper in retail than in Steam...

And Rockstar themselves (an employee, NOT support) commented on the latest newswire post that PC information is incoming. If there was a delay incoming, they wouldnt sound quite so cheerful and might not have even mentioned.

There's just no reason to fear it at this point. There's not even the slightest hint of evidence towards it.

Same here in Poland. Games in shops are usually around 25-30 euros while on Steam they are always 50-60 euros.

This is why digital distribution in Poland won't increase, unless Valve splits European Union countries to poor and rich ones with 30 euro price for Eastern Europe and 50 euro for Western Europe.

Though box version of GTA V seems to be the most expensive PC game ever in my country. Recommended price is almost 45 euro.

This worries me:

http://www.rockstargames.com/careers/position/4a880d65/rockstar-nyc

They are looking for a trailer editor....

This is very old, before the announcement of GTA V PC,CG.

Thank god XD !

  • Working knowledge of Xbox and/or PS controllers. If you aren’t playing games, you can’t make video game trailers.

except when you game on pc and have movie editing software ... gg rockstar

Well, if they want you to create a trailer showcasing or teaching things, you might know the right buttons on the controller to edit them into the video.

I'm pretty sure the hardest evidence we have is the fact Rockstar said themselves it's coming on the 27th and have made no announcements to the contrary.

Just because some Polish retailer has had a cardboard picture printed doesn't technically prove anything. It's not like R* ships those around the globe, they've probably had it made themselves. I've seen game retailers put up similar ads in the past, and have later stapled corrected release dates over the old ones.

That's what they said about The Witcher 3. And it was delayed. Twice.

I'm talking about delays here. We're discussing the possibility of delays. This is the hardest evidence of no delay.

All of these people thinking that Rockstar will delay the Steam release must not realise how much Steam has grown since GTA IV's days.

It's also too close to release for any further delays. Like I said in an earlier post, if the game is going to get released on the 27th it has to be in manufacturing and shipping by now, they can't be working on it anymore (except for post-release patches naturally). If GTA V was still in development, they would have already announced a delay.

Like they did with GTA IV? 11 days before release it got pushed back? There's no need to get defensive, I was posting in favour of no delay.

On a brighter note, I can't believe there's about 2 weeks left. I never thought I'd see the day. Only 2 weeks... I remember when it was like... 80 days. I thought it was always going to be 80 days.

Almost there!

I've already cleared my hard drive of old games and have the game pre-ordered from a local retailer (because it's cheaper than steam). Now I'm just hoping I can get some friends to get it too for some online play.

It'll be worth the wait I'm sure. Should keep me busy until spring at least, probably longer than that.

And I have played the GTA waiting game for a long time. I still remember hyping about Vice City in the early-2000s, heh. I bought any magazine that had any screenshots and thought to myself "If I can just get this one game I won't need another game for the rest of my life". And here we are now, waiting for GTA V.

They make more $ per direct sale than they do on Steam since Valve takes a cut on every sale.

Well, tbh, the physical copies cost them money to manufacture & ship so, the Steam copy will make about the same amount of profit.

Not really. Rockstar self-publishes their physical media and its not expensive to mass produce things at the #s Rockstar do. In comparison, Valve will take roughly 20-30% of EVERY digital copy sold. Are you seriously making the argument that it costs 30% of retail to manufacture the physical? Its more like 5-8% per copy sold. There's no other reason why they hold off so long on the Steam pre-order. If the profit margin was the same, it'd have served them well to launch Steam pre-orders as early as possible, especially being that its launching relatively close to the holidays where people were itching to spend money on Steam. Instead, they mass produce the physical and sell as many of those as possible until the latest possible date. Very few companies will produce even 50% of what Rockstar will of this game at the physical level and Take Two are notorious for it. Rockstar make a lot more profit on the physical versions they sell than digital sold by Valve. Why do you think games like Elite Dangerous are not on Steam? Direct sale is always going to make more money. There's no middle man and the manufacturing costs pay for themselves after a certain amount sold. This will be the #1 PC game seller this year both physical and digital almost certainly.

What about retailers, I would call them a middleman for physical distribution, and they take a larger cut of the sale then valve does on steam.

Now I'm finally believing that it's happening...
I mean, it's hard due to the lack of a Pre-Order on Steam, Info's and Screens...

Why would that worry you? Any trailer for GTA PC is likely already done, and undoubtedly they have more than one person on staff capable of it. They make other games too y'know lol.

I know and that is exactly what i said regarding the development of the game but a year or 2 ago we also had the same job advert for a PC Game Developer, idk so close to the release everything around this game seems to worry me, don't want a delay XD.

Grand Theft Auto IV PC Delayed?

October 29th, 2008

Published at 4:18 PM PST

Rockstar and delays have been an ongoing issue over the past year, each game Rockstar has released and announced over the last year has been delayed by some extent. It seems the PC port of Grand Theft Auto IV may suffer the same fate, JoyStiq has discovered that online stores Amazon and GameStop have changed the release date on the games product page to December 2nd, which is different to the date announced by Rockstar back in August of November 18th.

For those who have put off purchasing the game on PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 because they'd rather play it on PC, this no doubt will be disappointing. We are still unsure if this is official or not, but many large gaming websites have posted about this and Rockstar has not yet announced it true or false. We'll keep you posted.

Source: JoyStiq

as u can see, they (retailers) changed the release date almost 3 weeks before

Nice!

Thought they started the marketing a while back. I didn't take a picture of it, stupid of me... :D But Media-Markt in Sweden they had this since november. Posters hanging with tape on the windows when i walked out of the store. The exact same date but it was in english.
