Preorder month

  1. 1. When will the preorder option on steam be available for GTA V PC?

Recommended Posts

Proof came yesterday. CD-Key resellers confirmed their keys won't activate on Steam and require a physical version. Which means physical versions can't be activated on Steam.

Where can i find this supposed proof?

Read previous pages. A bunch of people who pre-ordered on cd-key resellers received e-mails about it.

Rockstar are so greedy that they'll probably delay the Steam version by 1-2 weeks

That's because they want to maximize the profits from retail version first, and take all the money in their pockets before having to split the money with Steam (fees)

Ask G2A or Kinguin support if you want your proof. For now, propably all keys in distribution will need retail copy to activate.

How would they know if Rockstar made no official announcement on that?True, there was no annoucement, although they say that they've got this information from R*.

Dunno if it's true that R* spoken but either way keys from G2A, Kinguin and propably from somewhere else will require retail version to activate.

You should make this into a thread. There's some great potential for passing the time. Similar to the countdown thread.

I'd like to contribute.

Yeah, me too. Here it goes:

Wait. So that means if I buy Steam Activation key on G2A or Kinguin then it will not work because only Steam will have right to sell Activation Keys for steam version?

No, it's only about CD keys because boxed copies can't be activated on Steam, someone said... I don't know.

You can buy Steam keys elsewhere.

People are confusing here...

This is such a widespread misundestandment. Do you realize Rockstar needs to split the money with the retailers too? Manufacture the product, transportation and storage. I wouldn't be surprised if they made more money per unit on Steam than they do on retailers.

What are u all talking about? Valve grab only 20% from each sold copy.

And now look at retail

From what those retailers said, keys that are they providing are normal, retail keys and it'll require retail game to activate.

Propably only GamersGate, GreenManGaming and NewEgg for some time will provide Steam keys because they're mentioned on R* order page.

They need to pay for Steam if they want to allow users to use retail keys on steam? If its true, we all know why rockstar will not allow it, otherwise, why steam would let it? using their bandwidth without receiving any penny.

I'll summarize (sort of):

>people be speculating and diggin up info' because they be 1337 sherlock homos.

>apparently CD Keys bought through digital retailers WON'T activate on STEAM, they will require the boxed version.

>therefore you have to be sure you buy a STEAM REDEEMABLE key.

>remember, we have no confirmation from R*, so take it with a grain of salt.

No..

They are selling proper Steam keys, most probably..(steam redeem key)

RGSC key cannot be used.

Besides, are we all gonna ignore the fact that the billing type listed for this game on SteamDB is ''Store or CD Key''? That right there is pretty much solid proof that there will be a retail Steam version.

Which means nothing, look at IV - there's alot of "cd keys" but Steam version is available only through Steam.

https://steamdb.info/app/12210/subs/

Edit: and the same for Max Payne 3: https://steamdb.info/app/204100/subs/

Actually not, I bought Steam Keys for GTA IV and the Episodes in G2A not so long ago. And I'm pretty sure you can do the same with Max Payne 3

Reactived my account jut to reply to this...
I worked in digital sales of games for 7 years... here is how steam are getting everyone...
Steam takes between 20 and 30% of revenue of a product sold on steam. This is depending on the deal with the publisher; 30% is the standard, but some rare publishers hold out.
Steam then say "hey, use my DRM; it's free" and if the publisher uses steamworks DRM (and it IS a DRM) then they have unlimited key generation for thier game that they can put into retail copies and other digital stores. They can even tag them to see where they sold them... excellent analytics (Gamestop purchasers are playing, Amazon digital ones aren't).
This works out for steam because they are getting the customer at the end... able to communicate to that customer, get him to install steam, buy other games etc. Winter sales!!!
this is basically screwing the 3rd party retailer (digital or physical) as well as the publisher because they are gifting roughly 75% of thier users to steam (yes, estimates on big titles like GTAV say that less than 25% will be directly purchased through steam).
Isn't customer theft fun.
Thing is though that Steam have been getting away with it for so long and the big retailers were/are so slow to catch onto digital that they will now get away with it forever. Hats off to Valve and steam (that way they have more for selling in TF2).
This is by no means knocking steam, they are possibly one of the best things that has happened to PC gaming in the last 15 years. RIght place, right time, right power.
edit -mispost.

I think I can say that I'm still a PC gamer because of Steam (among some other things, too). But they are the main reason, I guess.

One way to show that a indie game that costs $10 for the customer makes the creator the exactly same money.

Traditional marketing ftw.

So basicaly the retailers who sell CD keys which they took from the box versions cannot be activated on Steam ?

And the digital version Steam CD keys are ok ?

This is really confusing.. I hope they make an official statement on this soon. I just want to buy a normal cd key online with which I can activate, download and play the game on Steam. Why make things complicated...

We can't really know yet. There has been no solid proof of anything, and no official announcements.

The billing information for GTA V on SteamDB seems to indicate that you will be able to activate the game with a CD Key from a retail copy however. Let's hope so

This website seem to sell steam keys,is it true?

http://www.simplycdkeys.com/steam/grand-theft-auto-5

It's true. As you can see it sells....

What remains unknown is where those keys work or if they actually work anywhere.

Just wait for a f*cking Rockstar announcement.

It's not like you will have the game sooner if you pre order now....

You guys are playing with fire.
Why on earth can't you folks wait for some information about pre-orders?

Some of you are jumping on those suspicious third parties websites, if you get screwed, you'll get what you deserved.

Did you know you can pre order from steam on the 25th and have the game at midnight on the 27th?

Why in hell would you have to pre order now to have it sooner.

GOD JUST WAIT FOR STEAM TO OPEN PRE ORDERS

You won't have the game any sooner than me and I will just pre order on the 25th....

But oh well if you want buy the key in that website. If the key doesn't work it is your money and your problem anyway so i don't really care :)

No no you got it wrong I am not preordering it sooner I was just wondering about it.

I am also trying to get it relatively cheaper (retail copy)thats why I might not order from Steam.

I have no problem downloading 50+GB from steam.I also have no intention of getting a key from anywhere if that's what your talking about. :rol:.I'll decide anything only after R* says something.

More importantly I don't have the best gaming laptop,so I am not really sure if I can play GTA 5 at all :( and everything depends on it.

Np my friend :) .The only thing I hope at the moment is that R* optimizes the game properly and the requirements aren't heavy.

Well if Max Payne 3 has anything to go by we shouldn't have anything to worry about. It's the same team plus additional PC coders that had previous experience with releasing AAA titles (as per the job description from R* a while back). I also reckon online heists will be launched at the same time, or VERY closely after GTA V PC is released.
