  1. 1. When will the preorder option on steam be available for GTA V PC?

this a theory nothing more than a cheap excuse for a narrow-minded appeasement

Haha, wow, such expensive words to throw out a senseless insult. It's not a theory, it's how the Steamworks API works, but with you I shall withhold my word.

congratulations! we again reached an impasse :facedesk:

Reading this thread right now, I don't know whether to laugh or cry....

Just because there was one automated change on Steam, the world ends and the screams of 'delays' reach crisis proportions! I am sorry, but let R* employees enjoy new years day just like we are, with their friends and families.

Come next week, things like to this will be resolved as the staff return to their desks, you have to remember the American working and family relationship, most of the staff will be spread across the entire US and a fair fraction will be overseas as well.

There will be no delay this close to the release as it would have already been announced before the Christmas Break. Information will arrive in the next few weeks, just calm down and stay relaxed until then everyone....

5 new updates on steam db its obviously manual

https://steamdb.info/app/271590/history/

i don't mind about delay i'm just curious why

No lol. More like obviously you don't know how the developer side storefront works and thats understandable as not everyone does. There is no concrete evidence AT ALL that this is or even will be delayed. None. 0 Nada. Zip. Zilch. You're jumping to conclusions based on lack of knowledge.

The "updates" that occurred yesterday were after the changes we currently see occurred (Coming Soon, released, etc) and nothing was visually apparent after the DB changes. If you really want to wonder if/when a delay will occur keep your eye on the sub. The sub has not changed in 5 months. Change numbers on the DB can reflect the most minor of things, thats why they don't list them exactly what they are. Valve was likely responsible for the changes that did occur. It's already been explained why the Coming Soon thing came up by at least two of us and its exactly why. Valve can only change so much of a storefront, just like Facebook admins can only change so much of a Facebook profile. It's up to Rockstar to fix this at this point.

This whole situation is due to Rockstar's negligence to the Steam page. It doesn't mean a damn thing in respect to the release date being made or missed. We'd see Rockstar's own website reflect a delay FAR BEFORE we'd see it on the Steam page. They've proven it throughout this whole development process that the news will come from them first. So because something happens on a third party storefront, its getting delayed? Put away your Jumping To Conclusions mat, all of you. If it does get delayed and of course, thats possible, Rockstar's own site will be the first thing to indicate it either on Warehouse or via the Newswire. The Steam storefront is basically irrelevant to them at the moment because its not even available for purchase there yet.

People are not understanding that what occurred yesterday is a very good thing. The reaction to this has been entirely bad and you can bet Valve and Rockstar are both getting slammed with emails from people flipping out like so many are here thinking its going to be delayed. Its down to simple human negligence and it's a good thing because now Rockstar is FORCED to respond, and I guarantee you that we will get good news on Monday or Tuesday, at the very least I would bet on them inputting the release date correctly on Steam, which is how this would've been avoided in the first place. Maybe we'll get requirements or pre-orders opened up on Steam too, but frankly just confirmation of the release date right now on Steam is all they need to quell this clueless madness that's largely festering on the Steam forum for the game.

Just as a side note, change numbers do sometimes detail what they do as long as the depots available have their listings public. File size changes, encrypted changes in beta branches, etc are all listed and detailed if the information is present.

This is true. When it doesnt show detail, its typically minor things and may not even be indicative of a change at all, kind of like hitting an edit button and not editing a thing. If you click edit, it still records an edit. Its impossible to guess at what was changed since nothing is recorded, but the changes that we did see client side (Early 2015 to Coming Soon and the game going from Upcoming to Released) all occurred before the changes made on the DB happened.

The fact alone that the game went to released proves that Rockstar input string data on the internal release date (2015 most likely) but display data (client side) reads Early 2015. In comparison, the upcoming game Solarix also read "Early 2015", but it falls in a specific date range on the upcoming list, meaning their internal date is likely input fully. GTA was at the top of the upcoming list for about 48 hours and as soon as 2015 hit, that was it.

Bottom line: Rockstar just did enough to put the game on the Steam storefront and did not input the information fully and correctly as they probably weren't sure of a release date at that time.

Damn ... the stupidity of some people in this topic is beyond extreme... Sorry but reading through the last pages, I start to automaticaly assume you're an idiot if you think the game will get delayed. Especialy for these absurd reasons like Steam has changed the game's status or removed it from Coming Soon. They have no control whatsoever until R* says something... Stop it people seriously. 27-th January is official. 26 more days, just wait.

The game is ready, the only thing that kept them from releasing it, is money. Lots of it, payed by Sony and Microsoft. They have nothing to do so they are just testing it now

Why are people saying it's not Steamworks? Was this confirmed anywhere? Furthermore, why would it not be Steamworks? I thought a game had to use Steamworks to have Steam achievements, which as we know GTA V was seen as supporting those via the little updates people have been following.

From Valve's own site:

It’s free: There’s no charge for bandwidth, updating, or activation of copies at retail or from third-party digital distributors.

It’s freeing: With Steamworks you avoid the overhead and delay of certification requirements—there are none. Distribute your game on your terms, updating it when and as often as you want.

Like, there's zero downside and zero reason for them not to use it lol.

Don't you guys think if the game were delayed this close to release...Rockstar would've...I dunno, announced it?

Just a thought.

You overestimate their care for the PC community. Did you forget already the original PC delay and how that went? The article was 100% focused on consoles, giving them their official date and Rockstar had to throw in a little "oh yeah, we forgot pc. January 27th. Enjoy!"

There was no apology. There was no begging for patience from us. They didn't even acknowledge it as a delay. They brushed it off like it was the intended course of action the whole time.

I'm not surprised at all that here we sit nearly 3 weeks away from release and these douchebags can't even update Steam to show a f*cking date.

I'm not overestimating anything lol. Rockstar hardly ever talks about ANYTHING publicly. The only reason they talked about the consoles so much is because *gasp* the PS4 and X1 versions were weeks away from launch!

Let's not forget about heists which got delayed approx. 512481 times and the fact that they refuse to switch GTA IV to Steamworks. I literally got that game to play multiplayer with friends but I literally can't because of sh*tty GFWL giving me errors when I try to download my profile. They didn't even bother to fix GTA 1 & 2's issues on Steam, they literally just permanently removed them from the store. They're beyond lazy, and I've accepted that and gotten over it which is why I'm in no rush to buy GTA V on PC when it comes out. I'll see how everything pans out first.

Man I expect the worse from then, I wouldn't be surprised if they waited until a week before to announce the delay.

If I was Rockstar and read what's going on in this forums (and many others) I would be ashamed of myself. It can't feel good to know that the majority of a platform playerbase is disappointed with you, (Unless the billions they made compensate them for their lack of kindness and interaction with the PC fans)

They made a BILLION f*cking dollars + even more profits from PS4/Xbox One versions

They don't have to do sh*t

They are releasing the PC version only because of mercy, LOL. That's why they treat us, PC gamers like second class citizens

Ok seriously i hope that the steam version of the game will get an update soon (e.g. release date/price/pre-order option). because this thread is becoming like the R* disdain topic. This thread needs to be closed ASAP because it's only going downhill from here with these posts on why R* does the things they do etc.

Actually when PS3 was released it was way better than any PC hardware. That is a fact. But after that... not anymore. Please use correct facts, don't go on peasant level with lying.

This is actually true. Both the 360 and the PS3 were pretty much on the level of high-end PC's when they first launched.

The reason why the same isn't true today with the X1 and PS4 is simply because hardware strength advanced at a faster rate over time compared to a decade ago. You can't expect Sony/MS to put in massive-die SoC's into their console and then sell the consoles for cheap. They'd barely make any profits per system sold at that point.
