  1. 1. When will the preorder option on steam be available for GTA V PC?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

This is my first post ever on GTA forums. However, I have been keeping track of this site for quite some years now, especially around the launch of GTA IV and now, the launch of GTA V.

I am a PC gamer and do not own any consoles at the moment. As a result, I am waiting for the PC version just like you, but I have never played the game before.

Then why post suddenly something?

Well, GTA V has been on top of my whishlist for about 3 years now. Lets just say I was not very pleased with the announcemet of Rockstar Games to delay the PC version of GTA V to the 27th January of 2015, 3 months after the New Gen consoles and a whopping 1.5 years after the initial (Last Gen) console release.

I just wanted to say that I am very dissapointed. I did not expect a delay, especially after they comfirmed - they even wrote this on their newswire - that none of the "Enhanced Versions" would be delayed. 2 weeks later, they casually tell us, on a side note, that the PC version of GTA V will be delayed for 3 months - while console versions keep their release date. They just said "The PC version needs more polish." - But what kind of polish? Optimization? they don't specify. The biggest problem I have with this is the lack of communication, since like forever. They keep their mounths shut and won't release any information regarding the PC version. No explenation why it is delayed, no basic information like system requirements. People are willing to costum built PC's just for this game! If they can't release the System Requirements yet, that's a bad sign in my opinion. You can't tell me that they are still working on some core parts of the game, which have a huge impact on the performance. They have been working on this game since prior to 2011! If so, the PC version will probably not be too splendid.

Something else I was wondering; How will they convince people to buy this game for a third time? they already managed to get people to buy the game twice, but three times? I mean they already added drastically enhanced graphics, draw distances, textures, multiplayer options, first person view, ... What else can they bring to the table? The only thing I can imagine are the Video Editor and further visual enhancements + 4k resolution - support.

But to be fair, these options don't "blow me away". The video editor is cool - I liked it in GTA IV as well - but I wil rarely use it. I will just mess around with it for a while and forget it exists afterwards. I suppose making youtube videos is easier this way, but i want to play the game - not make a movie.

Enhanced graphics on the other hand, I'm all for that. The game looks pretty darn good on Next Gen systems. It will probably look even better on PC. But I think the 4k support is just a gimmick. It's good they add it though, because you have to start somewhere with a "new" technology, but you will need a very powerful PC to run GTA V at acceptable framerates on 4 k resolution on high settings. I, like many others, do not own a 4k compatible monitor nor a 4k ready gaming PC.

I wonder if they will add something on top of these enhancements. I think most PC-only players, like me, will buy the game nontheless, but this won't be enough to excuse a third purchase for anyone who already played the game.

I think - If they really want to appeal to as many people as possible - they will have to go a step further: add all DLC to this date, make sure the game runs like an absolute rockstar on butter, add serious mod support, keep updating the game and perhaps even more features.

Yet, I have a feeling the video editor and enhanced graphics will have to do. I think the chances Rockstar adds something on top of this are pretty slim.

What do you guys think?

- Blackight899

PS: Sorry for the long post.

I don't think they need to convince people to buy it again. A lot of people will buy it, just because they have been waiting for it so long. And I don't think many console players will buy it on PC anyway.

11 updates in one day? Seems to be a good month for PC version.

I don't know if it's bad or if it's good.

Good thing is there were many, so maybe they were some tweaks.

Bad would be if there is still so much to do.

MUST MEAN EARLY RELEASE? I'm joking but I hope this means there will be some sort of change on the steampage very soon.

Dying Light seems to have a lot more details than GTA V. And it has been made as an FPS with zombies everywhere attacking you. I really don't think GTA V will need as much ressources than this game.

I'm not worried at all.

Dying light is very most likely just another unoptimized mess, that's all.

Very few people will buy it 3 times.

From what I can see around me:

There are people who had the game on PS3 or 360, and that's it. Those are the majority.

There are people who had on PS3 or 360, and bought it on PS4/X1 too, there are a lot of those.

There are people who just bought it or will buy it only once, I don't think those are too numerous.

And those who had it on PS3 or 360, then on PS4/X1 and will buy it on PC too, those are very few.

Thanks to UnderMeister for noticing this.

Pointless in a way or another, but something to look as we have not too much to discuss.

It's quite late, what the hell are they doing?

Night shift started working.

Night shift testers are not allowed to push updates.

They might have received the info from the Q&A team and started patching the game.

Nice to see that the amount of updates on Steam has increased so much lately. Though, it would be even better if Rockstar finally revealed the system requirements - or maybe show off a trailer with PC specific features. It shouldn't take too long though, given that it's less than a couple of months until the launch. Now it starts to get really interesting, guys.

Holy sh*t, I think we may see 4 players soon... :panic:

Nah. We'll see 20~50 on, once they really start testing this game in a month or so.

Indeed, it is very likely that there won't be many people to buy the game 3 times.

But even then, they have to give us a reason to choose the PC version over the other versions when it comes out. Or, if you already own the game, why would you buy the game again? What does the PC version have that makes it unique/better that you want to upgrade?

My point was - why would anyone who already has the game bother with the PC version if it isn't a significant upgrade to the previous versions? That's why I was thinking that Rockstar perhaps has something more to show us?

But I wouldn't bet on it.

By the way,

Does anyone know what kind of DRM Rockstar will use?

I am planning on buying the game from my local retail-store. However, I would really like to add this game on Steam. Will the game use Steamworks (even in the retailversion)?

It will probably use Rockstar Games Social Club aswell.

If the retail version does not support Steamworks, I might cancel my pre-order and wait to buy the game on Steam.

Thanks in advance,

If we indeed see dozens of people testing the game on Steam, I think it's likely it may actually be heavily Steam based, because they'd probably use an internal build for major testing if not. We'll see.

Don't understand all this fuss about how many players are in game or how many new updates.

It was very interesting and exciting before they announced the release date (the delay).

Now we know when it will be released, just pray they don't delay it again.

Otherwise, there can be even 100 in game, that wouldn't help us in any way.

At this point my hype is 0, all I need is a PC trailer, or those screens.

And I think we'll have the system requirements in January, not even a day before.

Looks like it was a mistake with Dying Light's system requirements, they've fixed them.
