Am I the only one around here who feels like R* is rubbing salt in my wounds every time they release a new trailer or new screenshots..?

I know it's coming out in two months but I just could not shake this feeling that 'we could've been one of those'. You know, those happy people who are getting their game in 8 days (that too for the second time). I feel like this whole GTA V PC situation got way out of hands.

Now I just hope that 'Dec 2014 thing' isn't just some sort of Steam bug.

Only one. R dont care PC gamers

If they didn't care, they probably wouldn't even be releasing a PC release.

If they didn't care we wouldn't be getting that Video editor.

Stop it with all this "They don't dare" bullsh*t.

Well it is a bug in steam that shows the month + year. It's just not January 2015.

Yeah, they're just doing us a noble service. We're so lucky for buying their stuff?

Video editor is not mainly for us, but to create videos to advertise the game.

The majority of people probably won't even use video editor, they want to play the f*cking game.

What kind of enjoyment can a tipical gamer have from a video editor anyways? "duh i made a great stunt, let me use the video editor to record it and upload it to youtube where no one is gonna see it because i have no f*cking subscribers lol!"

If it is for someone, is for big youtubers like BenBuja, etc, who dedicate to that stuff.

Consoles gets all the attention and care all the time and at the very very very end goes attention towards PC gamers, and thats the fact. Also there's this new trend, introduced with new - gen, to offer the games only to gamers with high end computers e.g Assassins Creed:U, and probably Gta V. They dont need to release system requirements, even without it, it's obvious that is game for high end computers only. That's why they didnt bother releasing system requirements for Gta V, as they know, the game is dedicated to high end computers, so gamers with expensive computers will play it anyway, and gamers with low end computers will have to either give up or seriously upgrade or buy completely new rigs, and thats the options.

Well they need to sell on this new gen as long as it still looks fresh.

From a longterm perspective I am glad this new generation came out now and isn't too interesting, it will leave a lot more disappointed people with a PC at the end of it's lifetime than the last gen, which was relatively powerful for it's time.

They need to market their game even though "our version" got delayed so you shouldn't really interpret it as rubbing salt in our wounds. Everyone's being pessimistic but I want to see what happens as soon as PC screens release, trailers and previews. Yes, I'd assume they would give previews to PC publications.

They seem to have an entirely separate marketing plan in store for the PC version.

They'll talk about it and release those new PC screens as we get closer to PC release. Until then, it's all PS4/XB1 coverage.

Yeah, I can imagine that separate marketing plan. Like a dozen of new PC screens, pre-orders on Steam and info on the sys req in 1 article on January 6 13 and a 30-minute quick launch trailer the week before release. And that's about it.

They'll be like "oh, yeah... we almost forgot, here's the PC version, enjoy, whatever, just shut up now already"

And what's so bad about this approach?

The NG marketing plan got just as much. Half of which applies to the PC version, due to the fact that it's the exact same game with the exact same new features. There's only so many PC-specific things you can advertise.

I just f*cking love how in all these recent release material, they couldn't even be f*cking bothered to include at the very end "... oh yeah it's coming out for that horrible platform we hate, PC, as well." THEY COULDN'T EVEN DO THAT!

Truly, they don't give a f*ck about us. Expect another horrible game on PC from Rockstar with no support or f*cks given.

Just because a game runs like sh*t doesn't mean it's a port, though.

They can have PC as their lead build all they want, but what matters is how much they choose to optimize the game for a wider range of hardware.

Take for example, Watch_Dogs. The head of Ubisoft said PC was the lead platform. Everyone is calling bullsh*t on this because the game was poorly optimized. When in reality, that doesn't matter. The PC may have been the lead platform, but that doesn't mean it was optimized properly for a wider range of hardware. It was just made on PC, then ported to consoles because this is easier to do, due to the architecture.

What Rockstar has been doing, or more specifically, Rockstar Vancouver (now Toronto), is develop seperately for each platform. They don't have lead platforms, as they revealed in an interview regarding the PC version of Max Payne 3 way back in 2012. They work on the strengths (and weaknesses) of each platform, developing for each while taking into account their individual capabilities.

I'm pretty sure this is how GTA V was done for the new versions, as well. Hence how they managed to hit 1080p on Xbox One (to the surprise of many). They aren't doing simple porting jobs anymore. This is most likely the reason the last gen versions even run as well as they do. Both were worked on very extensively to be the best they can be on that ancient, 2005 hardware.

people automatically equate sh*t performance with ports.

but as you said, even a dedicated version is nothing without proper optimization.

another thing, virtually every multiplatform title from the last year has had PC as it's lead platform and then ported down to the ps4/xb1.

games:

- the crew

"Ubisoft Reflections rounded off day two of last week's Develop conference with an intriguing talk, tantalisingly entitled "Tips and Tricks for Porting to Next-Gen". For Digital Foundry, it was a must-see presentation primarily because the vast majority - and perhaps even all - of the multi-platform games we'll be playing on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 by the end of the year have been derived from PC code, necessitating some level of porting across to the new hardware."

-------------------------------

the division (unconfirmed but obvious)

-------------------------------

gta v (for the ps4/xb1 ports)

as well as several others, are just a few i can think of at the moment.

the consoles are still a priority however and developers will continue to focus most of their actual optimization efforts to them instead.

but consoles are definitely on the opposite side of development this generation (with multiplatform titles).

the PC version of V is absolutely the lead platform for the "next-gen" versions, though. there's no way they developed dedicated versions for ps4/xb1 in such a short time frame (several months). the costs would be astronomically high, logistically unfeasible and developmentally impractical. it made sense to develop independent versions for the last gen versions and PC, but not for ps4 an xb1 when they already had a fully developed x86/x64 PC version prior from which they could derive from.

-------

if you read the articles about the crew, you'll see that it took approximately 6 months to port that game to PS4 from the PC base version. and if you remember around october last year, it was leaked that " Rockstar New England was currently working on the "next version of a famous IP," according to the LinkedIn profile of a current senior graphics engineer at the Boston area studio"

i took screen caps of the profile and lost them unfortunately, but it's pretty obvious the listing was referring to GTA V. this was first posted on her profile in mid october 2013, strongly implying that work on the PS4/XB1 ports began just before or around that time. we had ash, the IKEA guy and silver wolf all confirm from their sources that the PS4 port had been completed by march of 2014, so that gives us around 6 to 7 months time, give or take, for them to port the game to PS4. dedicated versions would have required exponentially more time than that.

So f*cking true, at the end of the video I was like "f*ck GTA V and Rockstar", I don't give a sh*t about this anymore even though I've been waiting eagerly to play it since it was announced three years ago..

It's the f*cking PS4/XB1 launch trailer.

It should have been the PC, PS4 and XB1 trailer but now it's just the consoles. And they could at least mention the PC version still exists here and there, and not just pretend it's not there. It's just that with every trailer, with every Newswire post, with every preview of this game, it is becoming more and more clear that this whole delay is a f*cking money grab. And that? That f*cking kills.

Gameplay, sure. The PC port? Definitely not! Ubisoft is much worse than Rockstar to PC gamers. They're limiting the FPS and their PC ports have been sh*t after sh*t after sh*t, I don't expect much different from AC Unity. :p

my god, i can't express how much i strongly disagree with you here. neither of them are producing "PC ports" these days and while ubisofts optimization efforts for PC titles suck, at least they're courteous enough to release their games on each platform at the same time.

unlike f*cking rockstar who uses their PC versions as the backbone of their development, but still treats it like it's subordinate to consoles and makes the community wait years before they can actually play it.

when it comes to how PC releases are handled, rockstar is the absolute worst in this industry, imo. no AAA developer comes even remotely close.

So you do prefer a badly optimized version which releases alongside other versions, instead of a greatly optimized which releases 2 months later? That's...well...I won't even bother saying it.

then why is it being discussed in the PC section? because there's nothing else to go on? lol.

i don't understand why some of you are taking issue with the complaints some are raising here. if they're frustrated, let them be.

not everyone is pleased with how rockstar is handling relations with the PC community right now (or always for that matter)

f*cking face palm.....not this bullsh*t again.

you're simply dumb or incredibly gullible if you believe the current PC delay has anything to do with optimization or "extra development time", as rockstar put it. it's been covered to death in here, read some of my previous posts to understand why....
