Should there be an upgrade fee? (PS4, PC, Xbox One)

Recommended Posts

Since the long awaited next gen versions have been announced, do you think they will include a small upgrade fee to upgrade from last gen to current gen? This seems likely as they already said your characters can be transferred to next gen. Including this will make people happy because people like me do want to experience the best versions, but no one wants to buy the same game for 60 dollars. What do you think?

There were a few games that used this model, COD being one of them. It was an extra $10 to upgrade COD: Ghosts to next-gen. What they could do is use that model for Online only and charge SP w/ Online separately for the full price, because most of us have already finished SP.

This would be the most logical thing they could do, but knowing R*, they might just be hoping we forgot about $60 from last Fall and are willing re-buy it at full price. Why? I pretty much think the demand is there.... unfortunately

Trust me, a lot of people don't mind paying $60.

With TLOU, I look at it like they released it on PS4 mainly for people who came from Xbox to ps4 and didn't play it on ps3, so they can charge the full price. That won't be the case with GTA as it's multi platform and multi gen, so there might be a little more uproar.

for f*ck sake people. it's only 60$ and don't whine about it. you have most likely already played multiple times the worth of the games in hours.
60$ for a beautiful game like this is fair, maybe even cheap. so go hide in a cave or something.

Not saying R* doesn't deserve every bit of the $60 that went into developing this game, but what people can and cannot afford is a personal matter. Don't project your opinions on the value of the money that belongs to other people. It never works and is insulting to some.

K? Thanks.

The game isnt going to be worth another $60 imho, If money hungry EA will only charge you $10 to upgrade your battlefield 4 then R* should to.

Then you'll most like have to keep playing the last gen version.

What EA charges is irrelevant for R* and there's enough demand for the game that they can charge $60 - once again.

EA did that to sweeten the deal for early adapters and to sell the new versions. They didn't do it out of the benevolence of their hearts. It's a marketing ploy.

R* doesn't have to do that because the demand for the game is there. No Ubi or EA game can touch V.

(INB4: COD is popular and in demand and they still did it... again; marketing ploy to get people to buy the current-gen version rather than sticking with their trusty last-gen)

I think it's more likely that they'll make you pay full price for the new game, and MAYBE give you a small discount if you've bought the old one. The new console version is going to come with all sorts of promises of future new content and maps that will sweeten the deal.

promises like heists?

seriously, while i love GTA V/Online, I don't know what they'd have to do to make me shell out $460 to play it (i do not own a ps4/xb1)

You know you can sell your old copy as well.

and get what, 5-10 dollars for it at gamestop? no thanks.Or sell it on eBay or Amazon for less than retail value but still better than a local store. You'll sell it inevitably if it's a cheaper option.
