GTA V General Modding Discussion

Who's gonna make a realistic driving mod?

It'll be pretty easy since any IV cars can just import the IV values in, but the V cars are gonna need all-new ones.

The sort of 'underlying default' for car handling has been changed between IV and V, so just using IV values in V wont be enough (you'll get very, very low wheel traction, and the suspension wont actually change that much - not to mention the speed difference).

Also for the PC release I fully expect them to be using handling.meta instead of handling.dat, so it's not as easy to copy/paste (and editing is just slower in general with the .meta).

A new GTA:O was released today, adding among other things 2 new weapons and 6 new vehicles that are BRAND NEW to GTA5 and 10 existing cars that are special cars from the story mode, as always i would presume all the new stuff just gets added to the story mode by default, looks great, more content for last gen is more content for PC when it releases :).

I'd put Stretch's death at the end of Lamar Down as a carchase, the dialogue would just be sentence mixed or sumthing...

Actually, that's most likely the cut content they are slowly adding back in.

I'd make Trevor kidnap Steve Haines instead of killing him and torture him afterwards/bury him alive near a anthill covered in honey.

I hope there's a mod that changes franklin's safe house to the original one(the one at the beginning-----his aunti's)

Current Villa in vinewood hill is really inconvinient

I'll probably replace the aircraft with higher-quality models from Microsoft Flight Simulator, do an overhaul on the airport (runways aren't numbered right, there's no taxiway signage, taxi markings/hold points are all either unrealistic or non-existent, runways need to be extended by a few thousand feet, needs more gates/concourses, etc). If there's one thing that's always bothered me about GTA is that they do automotive stuff really well, but clearly nobody working there knows anything about aviation.

Moreover, I'm gonna try to reintroduce body roll on the cars, reduce the friction coefficient of the tires, and decrease braking power for realism. Probably I'll also try to port some vehicles over from Forza or Assetto Corsa.

Yes I'm a nerd.

With GTA being released on PC a lot of people are expressing their excitement at the possibilities of extensive modding.

But isn't it time Rockstar release an official modding development kit where modders can submit their creations to Rockstar and then the ones that are approved go into an app store like place where they can be digitally distributed to normal users?

I know what you're thinking: Rockstar are too draconian to do that but another company considered draconian did that in 2008 which led to a proliferation of other app stores and now it's considered a universal success.

I think this would be a great idea, and a way to give exposure and opportunity to talented modders.

What do you guys think?

It worked for Bethesda. Difference here is Rockstar obviously uses a much better engine. An SDK for GTAV or even the later games would be outstanding.

We never needed this. I don't care at all for an official SDK. I want Rockstar to focus on their stuff. The community has always found its own way through their engine.

I agree and one my biggest wishes is the Mod Development Kit, or at least guidelines for modeling and rigging objects from Rockstar.

Also, i wonder what happens if someone submit a highpoly car model as a fanart.

Who cares? The game's gonna look good by default.

Depends... If you look at ICEnhancer you'll see that there is a lot of space to work with.

Blue sky with HD clouds, better and sharper DoF, better car reflections, chromatic abberation etc.

There is a lot that you could add with a decent ENB to V.

I agree: GTA V is looking great. But it could look even better. You just haven't seen it yet.

I'm not sure if this is the correct place,

But I don't know where else to post it.

I have GTA 5 on my Xbox360, And I want to change the Police Skins.. (it's the American police car skins right now) I'd like to change it to British Police car skins. How do I do that? And can I?

The thing is we haven't seen yet how the PC version is going to look either, so i suggest hearing your own advice and wait until we have official screenshots or gameplay at least ,the announcement trailer was from the PS4 version btw so it would surely look better on PC if you have a decent one.

How about the idea to turn the animal in player controled characters.

Walking around as chop and attacking cops or as shark attacking swimmers.

Would a mod that fills Chop's happiness be possible? Since you can only make him "happy" by training him via a phone app.

I know we can't tell yet, since it's not out. But I don't want to get a phone just to train my dog. It's a game feature, making it required of you to train him on an external app is just silly.

Why not make it an in-game app on Franklin's phone? Like a mini-game? That would've been quite creative.

I hope they ditch this phone gimmick on the pc version.

I get this distinct impression that modding GTA V might be a little easier than modding GTA IV. Seeing how the content is added on the consoles it may be possible to modify the game with out actually replacing any files. Which is something I hope is possible as I'm sure the game will take up a lot of space. I'm not sure how the PC version will get its updates, whether it is like the Xbox 360 where you update the game, and then download DLC, or if it is like the PS3 where the updated files come with it. I have a feeling it will work like the PS3.

Anyways, time for my list of mods I want on GTA V.

Smaller mods I like to pack together to enhance the game.

-Working JB700.

-Lifts on downtown construction site working.

-Driveable Trains.

-All interiors are enabled and enterable.

-Ability to have thermal scope on sniper rifles outside of the missions that have a thermal scope.

-Enabling North Yankton.

-Simple Native Trainer.

-Ability to purchase Neon lights, hydraulics, and nitro for cars at LS Customs.

-Ability to have custom colored head lights.

-Ability to make and buy a custom color for a car. (Like when you pick your Crew Color, but in game.)

-Wing suit. Controls the same as the sky fall cheat.

Small mods that I would install together to make a bigger real life based mod.

-Real billboard ads.

-Real car mods that replace GTA cars with their real life counterpart.

-Possible race track map to add to the map.

-Real businesses. (EX: Burger Shot => Burger King, Los Santos Customs => West Cost Customs, etc...)

-Land marks modified to their real life counterpart to turn Los Santos into Las Angles, and San Andreas into California. (EX: Vinewood sign => Hollywood sign, etc)

Mods that will enhance Online play. Hopefully Rockstar will allow us to make our own independent GTA Online servers, which are entirely separate from the official GTA Online servers. Seeing how DNS mods worked before, I can see this happening. If not, modders will make it happen.

-Large custom vehicles. (EX: Ships and yachts with interiors, seeing as how you can have other people walk around on your boat while you drive with out them falling off. Maybe even the Tug boat from IV. Also maybe even large passenger aircraft with interiors.)

-Passenger 747 jets, golf carts, forklifts, Airtugs, Dinghys, etc... all spawn Online.

-Random events spawn like in single player. EX: More planes taking off and landing, random NPC's that talk to you like Jessie (Jesus).

-Animals spawn Online (which may spawn in the next gen/PC versions)

-Same traffic vehicle spawning as in single player which is more dense, and has more diverse vehicles for the area your in.

-Cops behave like in Single Player. They won't automatically know where you are when they are searching for you.

-For custom servers only, servers where you can build stuff.

-All the mods I suggested above, that are small, but enhance the game.

-Scuba diving in Online.

Total Conversion mods that completely change the game.

-Adding Liberty City so you can fly to it. It is altered so it would look like LC would during the time when GTA V was set. For example, the Amir Tower would be complete, and would look like the new World Trade Center buildings.

-GTA IV total conversion with the original LC. You can switch between Niko, Johnny, and Luis.

-GTA Trilogy total conversion with the III, VC, and SA maps combined together so you can fly between them. You can switch between Claude, Tommy, and Carl Johnson.

-Watch Dogs map brought to GTA V, however its altered so it is more like the real Chicago. No altered landmarks, heavily altered geography, and has missing land marks. It would feel like a more realistic city as some parts of it are changed way too much. It obviously wouldn't be street by street though.

-An original total conversion that isn't a port.

^^ Another suggested mod to add to the guy above ^^ -open borders so you can fly out as far or as high as you want without your engines dying (that's literally what happens, your engines die if you fly out too far or too high) so you can get to liberty city when added eventually (by a mod).

planes, tanks, apc, helis. And a Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 :p

I really do hope it will be more or less similiar to IV (yes, I know there are additional things, but still...) That way it would be easier to port my mods from IV to V

could you change that diving gear to navy seal's diving gear that would be awesome....plus it would be great to re texture weapons and their attachments

i think it's better to mod the v files instead. V's cars are a lot different than iv's. the car handling and damage is more advanced in V

I'm just going to install Simple Native Trainer.. That's the most important thing that i need. I couldn't play IV-V without the SNT xD.

Remove the ability of a player character being punched in the face after you follow another protagonist outside of the mission, when I was playing as Franklin and approach Michael to hang out with him, Michael was pissed and started punching me and got wasted!!

I'm think the mod that will be coming is:

-Opened and solid North Yankton mod, just like solid Liberty City mod in GTA SA

-Jetpack (if it wasn't added in original PC version)

-Enterable Titan's cargo

-Cargo plane available, spawned in LSX and crawling in the sky of Los Santos and Blaine County

-Possiblity to add turret in car (just like ZAZ's Pimp My Car mod)
