Can we port GTA 4 mods to GTA 5?

Recommended Posts

Both games make use of the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine, so it shouldn't be a problem to port mods from GTA IV to V. Some changes will have to be done obviously, as the engine progressed over the years but it shouldn't be incredibly hard to do. The thing I am looking forward to the most is the Simple Native Trainer. I wasted tens or even hundreds of hours in IV with that tool.

SNT has become an indespensible tool when playing GTA IV. However we will need Aru to recode his scripthook for that magic to recommence. When that is done Sjaak327 can work his magic.

The team behind Open IV have updated it to be able to access V files (X360/PS3), so I'd imagine the modding would be at an (early) advanced stage with most files already figured out.

Cheers.

Second that. Sjaak is a legend.

Yes, it should be possible. It'll be just a matter of converting Textures and Image Files to GTA IV version. We don't know really how the game files are till yet but Open IV and other GTA IV tools should be able to decompile the data for modding. GTAForums has an ardent modding community and as soon as GTA V is released, people won't just stop making mods or converting them.

I would guess possible, so many mod ideas though, vehicle strength being a big one, i hated how the dump truck/dock loader + dozer couldn't "crush" or "roll over" cars (or drop a cargo container on them hehe) without the cars BLOWING UP, ARGH! It ruined so much fun for me, when i finally found the dock loader outside of the mission, got a container and dropped it on a car only to get blown to hell...really upsetting, so much fun to be had there so i can't wait for mods to make changes/improvements to that.

That and ofc, having proper garages in story mode to store ANY car, this i would think should be fairly easy to do to at least make the hangers at the airport "store anything", more advanced feature such as the apartment garages would be even better, but probably not possible, but i don't see why not with a bit of effort, or failing that, a simple change to the phone contacts to make them work in single player, to get ANY vehicle delivered to you, and i mean any vehicle, for a price, that would be superb.

I could go on, but i won't lol. Hulk + Iron Man mods to GTA 5 would be sweet too.

File mods (like Killotamate's IV handling) should be fairly easy to port. (of course it would still need quite a bit of work as the car models aren't the same).

Script mods (such as Simple Trainer or Awwu's trainer) rely on the scripthook. Not sure if it would be feasible to get a scripthook running on V, but if it does, porting those mods should be possilbe. Of course game specific stuff (such as Car models, Ped models, objects and coordinates for instance) still need to be code into these mods.

Simple Native Trainer will be fantastic for taking photo's of cars and stuff. No more shooting car hoods off or trying to leave lights running. :D
