Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age, an upcoming four-player action game, is the latest title to be revealed from Crytek Games a studio made up of ex-employees of Darksidersdeveloper Vigil Games.

Blurring the lines between the history of the 19th century and monsters of myth, the third-person title turns players into both the hunter and the hunted, according to the studio.

Hunt, which is slated to launch on as-of-yet unspecified consoles and Windows PC, follows this collective of hunters during the 1800s as they seek out enemy creatures within a procedurally generated environment that promises no two enemy encounters are the same. Players take on the role of one of these four pre-made characters who can later be customized along with their weapons as they take on a variety of monstrous bosses.

"In Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age, players will be counting their bullets and crying out for help as they delve deeper into the shadowy world we've created," said David Adams CEO of Crytek USA and former CEO of Vigil Games. "From the outset of the development process, we've poured our imaginations into the game so that everyone who plays Hunt will discover a challenging experience that feels fresh, captivating and rich in possibilities."

The free-to-play release is set to enter into closed beta for Windows PC later this year.Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age will show during this year's E3 expo from June 10-12.

More undead shooters?

Ah well, Left 4 Dead sucked so maybe this will be fun. And it's third-person which is always better.

Pre-made characters are dissapointing as always, random generated maps also dissapointing, possible grindfest for loot, also dissapointing.

Eh whatever, I'll play it.

It's not just zombies actually. Apparently there's monsters and other types of folklore.

Yeah, that's why I said undead :p

Also no, I'm not joking, L4D was pretty bad, in hindsight it was like Resident Evil 5, but then worse. Felt and looked like a Counter Strike mod. Gameplay was boring and repetitive, characters were boring and repetitive and all you did was clear zombies in one area and then clear zombies in the next area. It was a boring game, with a boring, unoriginal setting. The only fun thing about it was shooting (but not more fun than any other FPS shooter already out). I still don't understand why it has gotten good reviews, though I haven't played online multiplayer (which apparantely is the only selling point, according to the reviews). Only did co-op with my brother.

What if they battled werewolves in the game. Then how would that count as undead.

That's the problem

It's bland as hell once you play offline with just bots.

Online is one of the funnest aspects with it's addicting Versus mode and Co-op Campaign

I still remember having a blast playing with my friends attempting to survive an Expert Match

Please don't judge a game until you've experienced everything.

It got positive reviews because it was something fresh to Gaming and introduced addicting gameplay and innovations to AI

And in hindsight how was RE5? Is it because it had zombies? You might as well say that in hindsight RE5 is basically Dead Rising

I finished the game, I've officially experienced everything.

Saying it's more fun with friends it basically admitting it's boring without online play. We did it with (offline) co-op and it was still uninteresting and uninspired. The competitive element was somewhat interesting (if I remember correctly it had a kill counter right?), but that's not a feature that can keep me playing a game over and over again, in the same map with an immense total of 6 different types of monsters, hot diggity damn!

RE5 was also just moving from area to area shooting zombies and doing absolutely nothing besides that, You know, the opposite of what Resident Evil used to be, but I found that more enjoyable because it was 3rd-person.

ANYWAY, GOING OFF-TOPIC,. LETS NOT. ITS JUST MY OPINION ANYWAY.

I like the way the characters looks in this game so far, old western style. I wonder how many and what kind of weapons we would get. Hopefully it's not as uninspired as some other games (anyone played Dead Island: Epidemic, those weapons were awful).
