Future map additions

Map addition wouldn't be necessary if there were more to do in the current map. We need new playgrounds. I remember in RDR you have the abandoned fort where you can hold the fort with canons while other posses assault it. Gang hideouts were fun too (unlike gang attack in gta).

I agree... to a degree. Opening up interiors would be easier than constructing an entire new map. I mean Call of Duty, they put out 4 DLCs containing 4 maps each time, which are larger than GTA interiors. We could have the casino, nightclub, Burgershot etc, Benny's proves they can do it.

However, whilst that would satisfy me for a bit, I really want to go elsewhere now. I know the map like the back of my hand and better than my own city. I love these fan made maps, but it makes me so frustrated. I want, Bone County, San Fierro and other new horizons.

Also... BUMP :D

Hey everyone. I wanted to give a quick rundown on some things.

I know this thread has been inactive for a long time, and sadly it is due to the lack of new information and/or evidence discovered about future map expansions. Back when this thread was in its prime last year, it was so exciting to visit the thread each day and discover new evidence.

We all want it to happen, including myself. It would be so cool to finally be able to explore new locations in GTA Online. I think we can all agree that we've wanted this to happen from the start, and it was told that it would be this way.

However, it does seem like the idea is still fresh. I know this is old news, but bare with me.

IGN made an article in September this year about how GTA Online has impacted Rockstar Games. In the article, they mention speaking to Director of Design at Rockstar North, Imran Sarwar. They ask him about things related to GTA Online, and how everything has "unexpectedly made an impact".

However, in one point of the article, this is mentioned:

At this point, although it's trivial to say: it definitely looks like the idea of map additions hasn't left Rockstar's mind. It's safe to assume that they still are figuring out ways to achieve this. We may very well see map additions in the future, which of course we're all hoping for.

I just want to thank everyone for sticking with this thread for as long as you have. We went from talking about the pure wonder of it happening, to discovering evidence and hints in GTA V and previous games, which is really cool.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see, however I think this interview proves that Rockstar still hasn't given up, and have much more up their sleeve in terms of content.

We don't need a map expansion. There's plenty of places for noobs to take cover in and for them to sneak up on you when you are fighting someone else because their scared to face you heads up.

Hate to be a broken record but more interiors would help..and then with those interiors let there be missions/jobs linked to them. The gta world is starting to get more and more bland for some reason. We don't need a bigger map. Imagine places like the casino where you can enter "No weapons allowed" and just gamble and earn more money in freemode? Or having a gunfight with the cops in a crappy project/apartment like in gta 4?

Things are heading in the right direction with the addition of Benny's Garage, so i think we'll just have to be patient and see what comes in the future.

Plus, thanks to everyone who grabbed this thread and ran with it. I never thought it would still be going so long after i started it.

Lets hope we have more concrete news about map additions sooner rather than later...

If GTA 6 is in Vice city the map and the landscape is going to be flat and boring, much like Florida, no mountains etc... just marsh land... :/ Sounds a bit boring imo... that's my main concern for GTA 6.

Well as a "new location" my bet would be on Liberty City and here are some of the reasons why it could be it:

-It's an existing map so it would take R* less time to update it and add to the game than making a totaly new map.

-Since R* wants to expand GTAO with new titles(GTA6 and so on) its less likely that Liberty City would be re-used as a setting for a new game so therefore it has to be a DLC.

-Well not sure if this should be considered a hint or so but on next gen. version there is an radio ad for visting Liberty City(switched to next gen. after the Lowriders Update was released so not sure if people mentioned this before)

-Its a location a lot of people want to see being added.

R* will never make Liberty City for GTA V Online.

Oh, I misunderstood what you were saying by "airboat". Also, my brain is stuffed today.

It must be from the Winter Snow.

Liberty city map wouldn't have to be the same as the old game though. GTA V map isn't the same as GTA:SA, despite both being los santos

R* will never make Liberty City for GTA V Online.

because...? give me 3 reasons, then I'll give 3 against You.

1) LC was designed for the car physics of IV. All the cars, even supers were a lot slower so the roads would not be well suited to V's.

2) It's not as simple as just remastering it. It would require a lot of work to redo the graphics, add clothes stores, convenience stores, mod shops, aircraft spawns outside of the airport, and other places necessary for Online to the existing map.

3) I'm sure most players would want somewhere new to go to, a lot of people already played the heck out of Liberty City.

Your turn: go!

Well I could give some answers to that.

1) True but it would only mean it would give a bit of a challange that aspect of the game.So who Isn't up for a small challange, also its not like the only cars in the game are super.

2)Also correct but as I mentioned it would take less time to do so than start making a map from the scratch so its something R* would rather save up for a new game than a DLC.Also LC wouldn't be exactly the same as in GTA IV since the time that has passed from GTA IV to V. If I remember correctly there was mentioning of it being hit by a storm or something along the line doing some damage.Another thing is that they could include the countryside that was scrapped and other small expansions.

3)True aswell, I would like to see Vice City, SF and LV but as I mentioned earlier its more likely R* would use those loactions for new games(not saying that its impossible that some of them do appear as DLC).Also played GTA IV and its expansions to death but still would love to see LC added to GTA Online since its such a different setting from LS, afterall R* see's GTAO as a ever expanding online game so it would make sense for them to add everything from the HD universe including LC.

@Crafty: not that type of redesign, GTA IV LC is already a redesign of GTA 3 LC just like GTA V LS is of GTA SA since those 2 games are considered different universes therefore it wouldn't make sense to do another redesign within the same universe but as I mentioned it should have some changes due the mentioned reasons above.

Yeah, and it took them years to redesign LS for V, and LC for IV. Redesigning Liberty City a third time just for a map expansion would take even longer than just slapping some modern graphics on IV's map.

R* would not do it unless it's for a completely new game in the series.

If Rockstar ever adds Liberty City to Online, there would be no redesigning needed. It's all been done in RAGE, so copying assets is simple. All of the assets are there, they'd just have to tweak a few things to fit Online. But aside from that, everything is technically ready.

Liberty City and Vice City have already been copied for the PC mod of GTA V, FiveM. If they can do it, I'm sure Rockstar can do it.

Also, I doubt people would be upset if LC was added. If anything, it's a new location to explore and have fun in. I don't think anyone would be tired of revisiting the same location.

Exactly and its a sure thing that would sell a lot compared to Cash Cards, while Cash Cards do sell, not everyone is buying them, myself included.A DLC map expansion with a solid price would be a sure buy for the majority of the userbase. So R* doesn't have anything to lose from that, they put in a bit work to update the map, add a good enough SP story, a reasonable price and they just have to watch the money rolling in.

@Cameron Star: well if not now in GTAV then later, don't have a problem with that either.

First I'll respond to your arguments, than I'll add my peronal thoughts.

1. Its not true. The map comes first, then goes the story, and then they code the physics, and after that minor models, like NPC, cars, objects.

The structre is dense, but there is nothing in it that wouldnt suit V's cars.

2. Redoing the map is a big thing, but R* consists of almost a thousand of pair of hands and brains. And still hiring new ones.

Its not about redo every building. The most work will do the light engine they've created for V, better sky, weather and filters. More colours would put more life in this brown city. Almost every shop in LS has only one model. All Ponsonbys are copy/paste interiors. Aswell as Suburban and the rest.

3. Yes they've played a lot in LC, but not:

-as part of current ONLINE, with all gadgets like garages, appartments, content creator

-with a snow.

-as a bridge between IV and V.

Yet the Liberty City is different City, full of skyscrappers, huge industrial area and water (since its on 4 islands, the underwater could be used in a new way). R* can add serwers, which have never been introduced in the serie. The time between the IV and V is enough to add some new buildings, age others. Its a lot of work, but not as much as making a new map. And remember this is R*. Impetus is what descirbes them very well. If you want this kida of thing in a FREE component, think about supporting them. Many here doesnt get it, they think they deserve everything for free, like a f*cking barbie princess.

Maybe its not a straight reply to something, bur You mentioned that it would take a lot of work. Work is their job. As long as there's money for employees, the company will follow their vision of evergrowing monster. a mission to satisfy its huge and fantastic audience.

I dont see the logic to restart the game every time the new number is sticked. creating connected complex parallel worlds makes game deep and interesting.

I don't see us getting any significant map extension until GTA6 anyway for the reason you mention, my point is what wouldn't need to be exactly the same Liberty City map as the previous game, just like SA and V are different.

All I'm saying is, if R* were to announce we're getting a giant bridge, newly constructed so we can drive over to a new City, I'd probably collapse

We may get North Yankton but beside that I don't think we will be getting any map additions, but what I would like to see is offshore oil platforms of some sort.

For example:

vhfCotG.jpgAnd they could be located around about where the red dots are on the map:

sR2Fw3G.png?1Having more stuff offshore such as platforms will:

  • Increase the use of the ocean
  • Make the map more dynamic and varied
  • And make use of boats

All in my opinion. :^::)

Actually not a bad idea. Maybe if they're large enough, they can be opened for deathmatches. Really cool.

Or they could just flip a switch and add the aircraft carrier to free roam... I guess that would have the same effect as offshore platforms...

It's a shame about the carrier. It's only used for literally one mission (Humane Labs setup) and that's about it. It would be cool to open it to freemode. There's so many missed opportunities with this, and I think they could've done a lot more with the carrier.

The yacht would be an excellent addition too.

yeah, and with a little bit of help from Lester, he could unveil the last known location of it, visible for 3 minutes, assuming that the aircraft would move a bit from it, in uknown direction.

what kind of stuff should be valuable to steal, besides Hydra? something engaging cargobob? Lets say, kind of delivery mission for Semoen, but for Trevor? A container full of weapon?

this would have much sense, a lot of weapons, hig value, but huge risk, impossible to do solo. the person who delivers the stuff must share the money. the other person deosnt get anything from Trevor. (as you dont get anything from escorting an high value vehicle)

I like this idea, it fits so well to the game mechanics

look: the game spawns one cargo per session, for about 1 game day, with 2 days break between.

If you fail, and sink the conainer, it wont be possible to get another. You have one attempt to do it, but other players can steal it from you.

the key to get the money is to cooperate with friends, escorting with jets or choppers.

You need to deliver this to the You-Tool warehouse spot.

It should be derelict (because of the in-universe recession) and taken over by libertarians and secessionists and sovereign citizens and such, like a dystopian version of Sealand. Maybe there's just a gang attack there, or perhaps something more involved, like if you visit there you have the option to start a special freemode event, like doing a supply run or fighting off the authorities or attacking a rival group (like that nudist compound). It would make visiting the place interesting and worthwhile beyond just being a cool place to wait out a bounty.
