Future map additions

Burger Shot.

We need a Burger Shot.

An updated version of IV's map will come. Maybe next year to bridge the gap between the next game.

I used to think so, but I doubt it now.

Yeah same here. If Rockstar isn't even focused on a story mode DLC for the most recent/current GTA (V). I highly doubt they'd even bother going back to IV for a remaster.

A remastered map just for GTAO? I'm sure that could well happen before GTA Next.

R* surely could do it for GTAO. Personally, I would truly love to see an updated, PS4/XB1/PC version of Liberty City for Online. It would be a shining testament to Rockstar's "expanding world" quote.

I'm just not holding my breath.

I think Rockstar North's shift to even greater focus on GTA Online means map additions are more likely:

http://m.ign.com/articles/2015/09/10/how-gta-online-has-changed-rockstar-north

My reasoning is that they will soon (have already in my opinion) exhaust the possibilities on the Los Santos/Blaine County map. They can breathe new life with a new map.

here is my idea take it how you like, but I think there will be both SP DLC and a map additions and how it would work is it would be only for CG(PC,PS4,Xbox One) and it wou be announced at the same time, let's say F,M,T have to travel to SF to do some business and that where the map would come in to play for say $29.99

I've always doubted it. I just don't see it being something R* wants to put effort to for an existing GTA game. Maybe we'll get North Yankton at best, but a huge city remade just for a DLC sounds kinda far-fetched. Especially when they must already be working on other games. Of course I would like a confirmation from R* on how long do they exactly plan on suppoting GTA Online with new updates, because that of course is a factor.

Edit:

Okay I just read the IGN article and they do seem to be pretty dedicated into developing GTA Online with ambitious ideas. Who knows maybe they'll actually grow it into something much much bigger and profitable than what it is now. If they manage to do that then I could see big map additions happening. But it really needs to become some RPG level sh*t, because right now I see the game as a bit too shallow to become almost as popular as something like WOW for instance. One thing they need to introduce is a purpose for leveling up for players past rank 120. And they need to fix the god awful matchmaking.

So you honestly think there is a serious chance for a map addition when Rockstar took 2 years to create 5 heists?

Just port the Liberty City with ENB in GTA: Online for those who bought GTA IV as a DLC and add the possibility to travel there with your car.

Can be filled with content later.

Enb is a mod and not rockstars content therefore no.

Is there any new evidence to this future map additions? I really like this thread so why not resurrect it?

Unfortunately given the recent News, it's becoming highly unlikely that there will be any Map Additions, at least for now.

I don't know, they said all of their resources are currently taken up supporting GTA Online. That actually gives me a bit of hope that eventually we might see new land masses.

Now that last gen support is over our chances for receiving a map expansion are greater than ever before

To be fair, R* claimed the real problem with online heists was making sure each member of the team was busy and engaged at all times. Story mode heists were easier because you could swap to whatever character was at the center of the action at any given time.

Compared to the complications of creating a detailed multiplayer mission such as online heists, throwing together a new map is probably a much more simple project to tackle. Still a lot of work, but probably a great deal more straight forward.

It's a whole lot more work, because there are a ton of little details they need to pay attention to. I don't think they would just port over the GTA IV map. They would probably update it in a variety of ways to be more fitting for GTA V. For example, graphical updates, new pedestrians and street objects, new ads, perhaps some old interiors would be removed and new ones would be added as apartments, shops etc.(it would also be a little inconsistent if they kept clucking bell and burger shot in LC for example, but didn't have them in LS) and a lot of the little details in the city would be made more up to date to fit more with the current year we're living in. There's also a bunch of construction areas in IV that they would have to update and they could actually make other drastic changes to the city if they felt like it. I just don't see them half-assing it if they want to add a new city into a game. I think they would want to make LC feel like a new fresh LC.

Edit:

They'd probably add new missions for the area as well and perhaps introduce new characters to give you those missions in order to make it feel more distinct from Los Santos.

Of course compared to heists, the logical process of figuring out how things are done might be easier in creating a new area.

Ah, right, bringing over Liberty City would be quite a massive map expansion. Definitely a lot of work there. But at least the big stuff is in place, it would just come down to updating the little things. I'm sure they could put a bunch of interns on it. lol

I was thinking more like creating a new island for the North Yankton map. Or creating a new island to represent Catalina. Something much smaller, where they can recycle existing models and textures.

North Yankton seems the most likely to me.

Liberty City seems more plausible than completely new areas, like Las Venturas or San Fierro.

LV and SF will probably come with GTA 6 and 7.

But R* already used ENB in their Meltdown movie, too.

?

How?

They have all of R* North working on Online, it doesnt have to be just in a SP DLC.

I think you missed the point where he means that it took them forever just to make five heists, so why do you expect a map addition any time soon? (considering it probably will be a huge addition.)

They had to create an entirely new system they hadn't created before with heists to get 4 players playing different co-dependent aspects of a mission at the same time. That's why it took so long, they struggled to get that right. They know how to create maps and have one (Liberty City) they need to update and another (North Yankton) they would need to expand.

To be honest I don't think they'll ever release a really big dlc. Not just a map expansion, but look at GTA IV's dlcs - The Ballad of Gay Tony and The Lost and Damned were bigger than any of the dlcs we've had with GTA V. The biggest they seem to be willing to go now is just heists or this new one, and neither of those are that big when you look back at what IV had.

Hey everyone,

I know I haven't been very active lately.

I just want everyone to know that I have lost the hope I had for Map additions.
Recently I started playing Watch_dogs online... no offense, but the world feels so much more alive than GTA V or GTA Online.

I think Rockstar truly f*cked up by not releasing any kind of add one apart from new clothing, weapons and activities.
The game has become stale for me personally.

Will we ever see map additions, I will probably return here, otherwise, I think I have to back away from GTA Online xD

That's a sad reality with this Game. It has become very Stale in that regard. :/

Ivar, you have been a friendly Poster in this Topic, and in that regard, I bid you Adieu. :)

Really annoying thing is, as nice as it is to be given new free things every month, even that has become abit... samey.

The only thing imo that would give everyone a reason to play the game is a new place to explore and discover. Whether this is LC/VC/NY or somewhere new (which doesnt make much sense) I couldn't care less if i got somewhere new to fly/boat to. It would give a genuine reason to own both

Map addition wouldn't be necessary if there were more to do in the current map. We need new playgrounds. I remember in RDR you have the abandoned fort where you can hold the fort with canons while other posses assault it. Gang hideouts were fun too (unlike gang attack in gta).
