Rockstar unveiled GTA Online in August with confirmation that it will launch two weeks after the September 17 release of GTA V.

Speaking to CVG alongside the reveal, The Benz said Rockstar is planning to add new locations to GTA Online "all the time".

"We've set this up so there are no limitations. The only limitation is the size of the disc and how much memory we've got," he said. "We could, if we wanted, simulate the entire world, different countries, whatever. Whether we do that or not... But we've got a bunch of old stuff that we're toying with using."

a lot of what The Benz said in that interview was just hype i think. not saying map additions won't happen (i think lc definitely will) but you have to remember he was trying to sell a game at this point so he was telling people what they want to hear

 

some of it is just flat out bullsh*t. no, you couldn't simulate entire countries even if you wanted to, les. have you seen how long it takes you to create 1 city? what a f*cking stupid thing to say

NextGen release hype lacks info on a new map. Makes it unlikely that one is imminent. I guess they are saving it for paid DLC.

From studying the trailer, we most likely won't see a additional map at release (like I predicted before).

Paid add ons seem more likely, simply because they would make more money of it.

The simple fact of the matter is that most speculation threads typically have some video from dumbasslive talking about some code someone found, voiced over some random gameplay, with various portions where he shamelessly begs for likes. What we have here is actual research into what was said publicly, and verifiably, by known sources within R*. Could this have all been smoke blown up our collective asses in order to sell more titles? Of course it could, but Every GTA title in the history of the series (with the exception of the handheld console titles) has outsold the previous title without making outrageous claims that they had no idea of fulfilling. There is no reason to suspect that R* doubted that V would outsell IV, so why would they go through with making these outrageous claims if they didn't at least intend to try implementing it into the game?

 

What we know from these quotes is that ever since the beginning of the 3D era, R* has had the concept in place for a permanent and persistent online environment set in the GTA universe. They have finally implemented this with GTA:O. Currently, there is really nothing to differentiate GTA:O from GTA V, and it is, for all intents and purposes, simply the online portion of the game. The next gen release will port GTA:O onto the XB1/PS4 platform, which will do two things. First, it will attract more players to the game, and second, it will place the game into a position that it will need to be in for GTA:O to survive past the 360/PS3 generation. Unless they plan on adding something that we are currently unaware of, the ported GTA:O will still be nothing more than the online portion of GTA V. If they want GTA:O to survive through the development cycle of GTA VI, they will ultimately need to do something to differentiate the game from GTA V, and what better way to do this than by adding additional locations to the title? The GTA franchise is the best selling IP that GTA has, and from a business standpoint, doing something like this just makes sense. Do I believe that R* has promised maps, or am I "holding my breath" for them, of course not. I do not have the same sense of entitlement that many here seem to have. I payed 60 dollars for a GTA game, and got my moneys worth.

 

Speaking of which, this feeling of entitlement surrounding this game is probably the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. With the exception of heists, R* has delivered on every single thing that they confirmed would be in this game. Everything else they have added has just been bonus content. To the best of my knowledge, there was no additional content added to GTA IV, either single player or multiplayer, until R* released the lost and the damned, and even then the content didn't transfer over to the main campaign (I don't believe it carried over to multiplayer either, but I couldn't tell you for sure because I only played teh IV multiplayer once, for about 30 seconds). With V, they have provided free to download additional content with each successive title update, and people still complain... I once thought the Halo players were the whiniest, most ungrateful video game community that I had ever been part of, but apparently I was wrong.

That is a really well-done map from a graphics point of view. In general I like the feel of it and I would be very happy to have such a map. I would prefer to see a few smaller cities from California sprinkled in as well. Instead of the mountain range in the northeast corner, it would be nice to see a city based on Sacramento. North of San Fierro it would be nice to get wine country and then a redwood forest. I like that Oakland is represented. I think it's important to have Silicon Valley represented as well, especially if you can build off of the corporate sabotage missions against tech companies that Lester gave in SP mode. Beautiful artwork by whoever did it, but I think concept wise it could have more depth.

I got it from the official snapmatic twitter. It's still fan made but is a really good representation of what could be. A proper sized desert and massive san fierro. Would be such a pleasure to roam something that vast.

hell yeah very detailed i love it everyone who supports this topic should put this to rockstar! this map is the best one I've seen

 

only thing i could say about it is well the top city were those buildings all meet is SanFierro right? and the city to the left is LosVenuras right? i feel like sanfierro would be a bit bigger and los venuras is perfect as is but overall very good work!

If you look at the scale the 'golden gate bridge' north of sanfierro is about as long as the alamo sea is wide. and the bay around san fierro would be huge. In terms of that being most of california and a bit of nevada there really isn't more water in between in real life.

As an example:

GTA V

GTA V: San Fierro stories

GTA V: Liberty City stories

GTA V: Las Venturas stories.

 

It would all be the same game, but with sub-titles, like a lot of late 90s/ early 00s games had.

 

Ps: this would also take away the problem with licensing music.

 

They would be more like add ons (only condition should be that you have the original game installed), but each with new land, story and possibly characters.

I doubt theyll do liberty city stories, more likely a 10 year anniversary edition of GTA 4- update the graphics, switch the mechanics to be more like GTA V, maybe map some countryside, and add the city to online

i would want rockstar make GTA5 like this island for xbo to ps4 and have either a separate disc for gta online or what the same thing using the gta 5 disc and so on, so that they can add more extensions only online maybe add liberty city if not when or if vice city comes out next for the online version only you can travel from san andreas to vice city but when they release gta6 (hopefully its vice city) and yeah but the regular version of gta6 (sP) will just be vice city. but yeah you get what I'm saying tho right? gta online will grow as time passes by mybae faster or slow but eventually it will be GTA World/Planet (lol) Online

 

....all we can do is hope but let i keep saying we as the gta community have to work together to push ideas to rockstar one idea to the next one.

....you kno what man i think rockstar lost there touch. they're afraid to go all out like back in the day. what happened to all the controversy and protest against rockstar that made them the best game of all time. f*cking gore and ideas they had. not saying they did there thing on gta5, its nice and all but it could have been better and limitation its the issue but come on man

This is from a SA point of view but I agree with what you said, Except the remove the northeast mountain part and put in Sacramento, That's offroad heaven and I think a lot of people wouldn't want another generic city. Part of the mountain range could be redwood and the other side wine country.
