And this is the first GTA where you help prisioners escape in a prision bus.

Contributed with a sh*tload of awesome Liberty Rock songs. Seriously, TLAD added the best songs to the IV collection.

Johnny is also the protagonist who most met others, Niko, Luis and Trevor. The only IV era protagonist he did not meet was Huang Lee.

He's the first drug-addict protagonist (after TLAD)and, like mentioned earlier, second to have his own game and die in another one in a cutscene that has another protagonist.

 

I think I'm running out of gas for ideas.

I know this might not count, but you could do that in III, VC, LCS and VCS if you managed to get to another island. You wouldn't get any wanted stars at all.

 

Well, this is the most useless contribution but it was the second GTA (other one was only GTA III) that only had one outfit available (and in TLAD it'd have a texture change when you took over the chapter).

 

In GTA3 you change the outfit in the first mission.

What about GTA1, Advance, CTW and London? You couldn't dress up there differently neither.

Technically yes, but in GTA 1, if you played as a black character the player sprite would be a black person. If it was a white character - the stripe would be a white person.

Finished TLAD a few hours ago, got another one.

 

First GTA to show another game's missions and plot-related content during credits (shows missions from IV and TLAD), carried over to TBOGT (and was completely forgotten on V).

I guess at this point it's mostly about 'trivias and tidbits' ... but why not.

 

It's the first three dimensional Grand Theft Auto that asks you to shoot people in the very first mission instead of the usual simple navigation tutorial. Carried over with V.

 

The two story related trophies/achievements are different from the other entries in that it unlocks During the mission itself -Billy gets on his bike; Billy gets arrested- instead of unlocking post-mission like it usually does. Also Billy Grey, the leading antagonist, is distinctively involved in all story related trophies/achievements, which is a first.

 

Despite Angus' strong presence as a supporting role, he is never seen during gameplay, and never talks during cutscenes either until the finale. This makes Angus for the most part a 'voice in the box'.

Reversely, Clay Simmons only speaks during gameplay, never during cutscenes.

Both characters serves as the gang's vehicle specialist.

One can wonder if, originally, both characters were meant to be the same, but perhaps portraying Angus' accident on screen would have been too gruesome and heartbreaking, even by the franchise standards.

 

Whereas each new entry to the series generally rewards player with increasing money for completing story missions, The Lost and Damned intentionally breaks the mold, where completing the story barely rewards player with a six-sum-figure.

 

First Grand Theft Auto to introduce an optional graphical filter effect. Ballad of Gay Tony made the new visual color hue obligatory.

 

First three dimensional Grand Theft Auto DLC, contributing the new standards of 'getting your money's worth with DLCs' viewpoint.

 

First Grand Theft Auto to count the end credits as a 'mission'. The game only includes twenty two story missions, but after the end credits, the number suddenly adds one more to twenty three.

 

Incidentally also the shortest amount of story based missions to date in the franchise.

 

This is the first game that removes one of the safehouses while having already introduced an alternate safehouse. To elaborate, in past and future entries, the player is only introduced to a new safehouse after having lost a previous one: in Lost and Damned however, the alternate safehouse was introduced well before the loss of the principal one. Although at the time, it's hard for players to imagine they'll be losing a safehouse in this game, even if there was something eerily suspicious about the second safehouse being placed on the same island as the first one and merely minutes apart from one another, initially making its uses redundant.

Both safehouses' internal radio station is also the same: LCHC.

 

The game has an interesting way of portraying loss from the protagonist's standpoint, both in gameplay and narrative: initially, Johnny Klebitz always had something to gain from the loss of one of his brothers; with Jason Michaels' death, Johnny gains a grenade launcher and is introduced to Congressman Stubbs; with Billy's arrest, Johnny is made president of the chapter and gets to call Terry and Clay into assisting him in the subsequent story missions; with Brian, Johnny gains a new safehouse and an optional random encounter. It's only when Johnny decides to betray Ray Boccino that things take for the worse: first Johnny looses all the help he had from the Broker Chapter, then with Jim's demise Johnny starts to gain nothing, instead losing a friend and a free source of armaments in gameplay, and later with Billy's execution, Johnny loses the clubhouse, a safehouse and source of unique mini-games, free internet and only in-game television.

 

Despite the prominence of LCHC and Liberty Rock Radio in the default soundtrack selection in-game, all three mini promotional trailers introducing the Lost bikers, "Meet Billy, Meet Johnny, Meet Brian", all uses new songs from Radio Broker.

 

Several of the game's minor and supporting characters, such as Malc, Leavis, Charlie the undercover cop or even the Immigration Agent during "Martha Full of Grace", are all voiced by actors who had previously worked on the 3D era franchise, as either Phone Booth contacts, Talk show hosts, Radio DJ, or full supporting role.

 

During the mission "Shifting Weight" it's possible to use any other handgun or sub machine guns other than the default assault shotgun, but considering this is the only mission in the entire franchise where the player can use a shotgun with unlimited ammo and no need for reloading, it's hard to consider switching to another weapon.

But those islands weren't meant to be accessed, TLAD doesn't have any of the map blocked or any of it unlocking as you progress.

The Oceanic isn't yours, but simply spawns there. The Infernus is Lance's, not Tommy's. And the Greenwood is Sweet's. None of these are actually the protagonist's, but only spawn near their safehouse. The Hexer is actually Johnny's, so it counts as a personal vehicle.

So following your logic, after Ryder dies his Picator becomes CJ's, but that's just silly. Our point is that it's the first GTA where the protagonist OWNS his OWN personal vehicle and he uses it in every mission and if you abandon it and start a mission far away, it will respawn next to you with the same color scheme, so yeah, it is yours.

Recharging? Regenerating? Nope it does not have that, and would have been a sh*t feature. Are you maybe referring to 'riding in convoy' which gives you extra health/armor for the first half of the game?

The less morbid existence that GTA IV brought us into by its end, is what made TLAD contribute to the franchise, in my view. More people lived and only the threatening ones died, leaving more alive than its parent game. True, people were killed and the Lost suffered tragic casualties, but, overall more was left to expand upon.

Johnny Klebitz so far is the only HD Era protagonist that cannot change clothes.

Billy is the only main antagonist in the franchise that has been a childhood friend and gang mate of the protagonist.

 

Which leads to: the unique connection between the beginning and the end. In the introduction, The Lost MC were heading to take Billy as he’s just released from rehab, whereas in the final mission, they break into the prison to take him down.
