GTA IV's lobby system > GTA V's insult to it

Recommended Posts

I really like the fact that you could host you're own private lobby on GTA IV, and change the options to your liking.

Of course, in GTA V there is the option for Solo & Invite only lobbies, but that's about it.

What I'm talking about is how in GTA IV you could tweak the settings, such as traffic, weather, police, or even friendly fire.

The police cause more problems in GTA Online than they do solve.

I can bet one of you has had a cop ram your vehicle when they are chasing someone, causing YOU to get a wanted level for nothing.

Not only this, but has anyone else noticed they don't drive smoothly? They slide left to right, constantly jolt from 2mph to about 400, causing them to ram and just appear in front of you.

This isn't a rant about topics like "NERF THE POLICE!!" (Just more detail into the benefit of customizable lobbs)

I would much prefer to host my own lobby, private or not, without the appearance of police.

Agree, having your own lobby options like in GTA IV would have been so awesome

They missed out a bunch of features which would of been great if they carried over to GTA Online.

Even how you could simply mute people via the phone, not have to go into the pause menu. It's just not practical.

RDR had the best lobbies because most of the time, you're still in the game world, hanging out, waiting for the activity to start. I hate R* bullschit obsession with stopping your gameplay for 2 minutes for every 1-5 you spend in an activity. Playlists aren't the solution; putting all this stuff and the rewards in freeroam is the solution.

I agree, have an option to get rid of cops, but only make it invite only sessions. Traffic, weather, time of day etc... should all be able to get changed as well. The only thing I think shouldn't be an option is to get rid of ranks/money. It would just gift players who haven't tried at the game and remove all the effort for high ranked players.

You do realize that the reason this was possible in IV and not in V is because of how IV used a P2P system as opposed to V's cloud based servers?

In layman's words;
IV used one player's console as the host server, therefore changes could be made at the host's discretion.

V's lobbies do not use any one person as a host...

I didn't say to remove it, heck, that wasn't even adjustable in GTA IV. We had that stupid "Get $ to rank up!" system, which was like $10 for every kill.

Well gee, that's a real pain.

^this

Pretty much means that GTAO will never have lobby options (because there will never be a non-R* host)

ahahah but gtaV is still p2p matchmaking.. only thing in the cloud are characters, stats and variables.

there's always a host in any lobby.

Agreed, RDR was very smooth, why cant they take a few of the things that made RDR such a great game and implement them for GTA:O

That doesn't change that IV's lobby system is mostly superior to V's (ease of hosting your own matches being the main thing in V's favor).

Compared to the scale and ambition that Online is aiming for as opposed to what IVMP aimed for...no, it isn't.

But if you really love IVMP so much, the game is always there.

This is totally a "NERF THE POLICE" rant, LIAR.

The majority of your post is a Cop complaint. Send them to R* cuz they have been discussed here in other threads at length.

PS: sorry i called u a liar

First off, it doesn't matter what you aim for, it matters if you hit the mark. You could argue about the whole game in those terms but when it comes to the topic of this thread (lobby functionality), IV is superior.

Second scale and ambition? GTA Online is basically a minor step up from RDR. If you pretend that RDR or GTA IV didn't exist then yea you could claim scale and ambition. How about removing the fanboy blinders and seeing the game for what it is?

And really, the old go back to the old game response? Yea, people love to go back to games that have been hacked to hell and have a small player base. Give me a break.

I don't buy this EXCUSE because you can join a mission with your friends, say rooftip rumble, and there will be no cops... even the local gang members in south central turn into a bunch of a pussies.

It's just a simple switch that should be given to players going into invite only sessions. Blaming this on the cloud is just a bunch of nonsense.

Depends on what you want; i barely spend any time in lobbies and go straight jobs and activities. In those aspects Online hits the sweet spot every time in my experience so far.

Brilliant; the fanboy retaliation. If you hate Online so much, why are you even here? it's akin to me going to church and telling people Buddha is so much better...

Well, if that's what became of the game, there must be a reason...figure out why.

It's not an excuse; it's how the game works. Whether you like it or not is irrelevant.

When you join a job you are joining another player's activity using his console as a temp server; you are not in any lobby. You are connecting to another player's console.

That's why 1 player always has "HOST" next to his/her tag. the host will not have any lag issues and any connection drops and etc.and yours will be depending on how your connection complies with his/hers.

When you rejoin a main lobby; you are using the cloud servers, thus why there can be no modifying at will. there is no host; the consoles are communicating with the dedicated server simultaneously.

Learn how P2P & cloud servers work before saying something's an "excuse" or "nonsense"...using objective thought, not subjective.

^ you're the one who needs to learn if you're going to insist that public sessions are cloud hosted and not peer to peer still.

your character, stats and game variables are on the cloud.

nothing else, that's why most likely the freezes are due to host migrations as they say, but it's their f*ck up because it worked fine until 1.12.

GTAO is p2p with cloud saving, period.

stop roleplaying expert because you're roleplaying a foot in mouth the more you post.

Sure thing boss. Without using any factual evidence to contradict me, you automatically know more, right?

I didn't say it was 100% cloud based; but there's a reason it isn't like IV's P2P system. And that when someone leaves it's never been a "host".

But whatever, maybe you can illuminate everyone. :^:

Your comment is a distraction from the issue. When someone starts an invite only session they should have the option to turn cops OFF. That's just a simple switch.
