aaargh not the floating argument again

for all practices and purposes

it's floating

if you really want to argue semantics though

float·ing (flomacr.gifprime.giftibreve.gifng)

adj.
1. Buoyed on or suspended in or as if in a fluid.
2. Not secured in place; unattached.
3. Inclined to move or be moved about: a floating meeting; floating crap games.
4. Economics
a. Available for use; in circulation. Used of capital.
b. Short-term and usually unfunded. Used of a debt.
5. Designed or constructed to operate smoothly and without vibration.
6. Of or relating to an organ of the body that is movable or out of normal position: a floating kidney.

1. suspended in or AS IN a fluid?

CHECK!

2. not secured in place ; unattached?

CHECK!

3. inclined to move or be moved about?

CHECK!

well we're obviously not talking economics or organs here so I'll skip those 2

5. designed or constructed to operate smoothly and without vibration?

qeustionable if you ask me. so let's say NO!

now out of the 4 definitions of floating that could possibly apply

it WITHOUT a doubt fits 3.

your move! XD

One could say it's suspended by the rotors which calls statement 2 into question..

whatever

my point was that it doesn't matter

for all intents and purposes it is floating

any1 arguing otherwise is just being a smartass

you could probably quote another dictionary or science text book and with a few logical leaps and bounds prove me wrong.

but that would stupid and pointless, whoever first said the chopper could float knew what he meant, the people reading knew what it meant and even the smartasses trying to argue otherwise knew what was meant

but them being smartasses they just couldn't keep their mouth shut!

You seem quite upset.

He is due to his comprehension being so poor.

Skipping the very first point in his example; buoyed.

In order for something to be buoyed it needs to maintain buoyancy.

Which means if you drop it in water, and let go, allowing gravity to do its thing; if it sinks it's not buoyed.

A cargobob cannot maintain buoyancy without any outside influences therefore it doesn't float.

I just noticed that almost 30 pages later in this thread, people are still arguing over whether or not helicopters can float

After playing for since about a week after launch, i only just noticed (well actually paid attention i suppose) to the fact the my garage entrance from the outside has only one door, but inside my garage has 2 doors... One of them things that i had sort of noticed but never noticed (if that makes sense)..lol

Didn't realise this until yesterday, but in clothes stores (particularly noticeable in the Binco ones), the changing room at the back isn't just a useless annex, like the back room in most grocery stores - it's fully-functional, like the wardrobes in apartments. Rather neat, logical feature, that.

Must have just been added as part of 1.15, but overturned vehicles will catch fire and explode ala GTA III.

Caused me to fail RR the first time it happened to me. I rammed the car with the documents, it flipped over, and just as the guy got out it went up and took the documents with it.

what that's stupid!

I always hated this, there's no reason at all for an overturned car to explode

cars don't really explode anyway

GTA cars explode when overturned for an extended time. It's part of Grand theft, like Kill Frenzy, and Gouranga. Quit being a gamer and return to being a GTA player.

that's just silly

kill frenzy's kind of made a return in gta 5 with trevor's rampages but they weren't in 4 or it's expansions

and couranga hasn't been in since the 2d era IIRC

tradition is just a nice way of saying: "well that's how we've always done it around here"

it's not a reason or justification for anything

Tradition is silly. Rampages would not have made sense in the context of the other characters. On the update they should have let us use Lamar for Rampages. It would explain how he always got "caught up." In the sense of tradition when it comes to GTA if and only IF they stopped trying to cater to everyone and did things with TRADITION in mind their games would become much more fun.

EVERY SERIES that was started in the mid to late 90's got WORKED trying to stay modern.

One thing I only noticed now is that if each game sticks to the core roots like they have been it will get better. Why didn't Hare Krishnas return?

ok if tradition is silly and things should only be implemented if they're good and make sense within the game

than why would you want overturned cars to explode?

it's silly, it doesn't make any sense and it's annoying, plus we can now right cars ourselves with the thumbstick.

the only real argument you gave is because it's tradition.

anyway while I do think you have a point in saying the game should stick to it's roots

the examples you use are really weird

who cares about hare krishna's rampages or overturned cars exploding?

they were never core elements of any gta game, they're just details

at it's core gta has always been about freedom, and I feel that with SP becoming more and more linear and scripted with every installment

and online being turned into some persistent MMO type thing it is really hurting this core element which made the games what they were

I noticed this a little while back...my plan was to get my buzzard for the lawyer while my friend shot the plane down...but when I got the Trevor's airfield the two Lasers took off. :/

When youre in cover at a corner hold the stick so your character peaks out, then press X. You will round the corner while staying locked to cover.

I wish more people knew this that played my gta ninja warrior map. lol I have one map where you have to use this move to stay on the ledge I created. So many people I watch have no clue that you can use R2 to go up against the wall, peek out, then use square(xbox is x) to round the corner whilst staying locked to the wall. The map I made is all about character controls and knowing how to use them...and it shows that most people don't know much about the details of character control in this game. Like using sneak mode(L3) makes your characters movement much more controllable.

Probably well known, but in Ammunation, there is the option to buy all ammo for each weapon/type of weapon.

Click on a weapon, click X to 'toggle' and then buy ALL AMMO.

much useful

I prefer to launch a solo mission, buy all the ammo then back out and FR. Much quicker than driving to Ammunation and going through each weapon type and purchasing ammo.

Unless they have changed it, the way it used to be was the ammnunition at ammu-nation was cheaper than buying it in the corona before a mission. I used to pay 600 for stickys in the job corona, but only payed 550 at ammu-nation

I'm amazed at how many people still don't know about the "on-call" option in the quick jobs menu. this was a great great addition to the game. I always hate waiting in a lobby for a game to get more people. Now I can still free roam and wait for the job to start.

Today I noticed that if you hold down the button when eating a snack, you get more health out of it. I was a little upset with myself for not finding that out earlier.

I pointed that out a page or two ago, surprising how many people don't know this.

Also, the Cognoscenti Cabrio has a retractable hardtop.

Obviously.

Ive had that car for MONTHS now...first car i purchased and NEVER realized it was a convertable *facepalm*

Cabrio stands for convertible in GTA.

(Edited the massive quote down a bit...)

It has been occurring since at least the 1.14 update; I first noticed it when I flipped the car with the Dub 6x6 right after I bought it.

Here's the part that transforms it from silly/traditional to R* just doesn't like us:

Only the Rooftop Rumble Documents car will explode when overturned; as far as I can tell, no other car will explode when stuck on its roof. I also believe that it will explode when pinned/continuously forced against a wall, though that only happened to me once and I haven't been able to pin it since...

It's pretty cool, but you can't get people in that way, you actually have to go up a little bit and even then it's still annoying.

If you want to get someone out of the water, it's still faster than waiting for them to swim to shore, though.

Its kinda funny that they let helicopters float but dont let people swimming get on them, would be nice to be on a helicopter-rescue operation...

I am able to do this no problem? You just have to press Y or triangle close to the helicopter. I think I was a good 10 feet above ground.
