I usually don't roll anymore. i just run to the right on the enemy's screen so he'll have a hard time trying to hit me and aim before his head and kill him. it actually works... reason why is because your thumb is pressing up against the Right stick and aiming to the right making it hard to aim. Aiming left is easy.

On the xbox, aiming right is easier for me because the distance to the sticks are longer. Aiming left is a little harder as you have to overextend slightly.

Haha OPs sh*t at rolling.

Ah look who it is, Mr Pistol Headshot Pro.

You're a perfect example of a player who gets off of abusing a retarded mechanic aka - Combat Roll spamming while using auto aim to flick your stick up to get headshots when you're invulnerable to being locked onto yourself, which in turn makes you think you're 'good'.

LOL.

Newsflash. I can roll, but I'm not the type of player who goes rolling into the middle of the map and rolling on reaction everytime i get touched by a bullet.

What's your definition of a 'good' player?

That idea sounds dumb, and would render combat rolling incredibly useless.

Soooooo what? You want combat rolling to just be some fancy useless implementation in a shooting game? lock onto him again after his roll.

"And before anyone says "play free aim," good luck trying to get any free-aim players in a lobby."

This made me laugh alot harder than it should have. Seriously? I don't think you know what the heck are you talking about. I've played free-aim since launch and we are constantly getting full lobbies. What is the fun in playing Auto-aim anyway? I can lock on faster than you can lock on to me, huehuehue #MajorSkillz!

Yea, roll, shoot, roll, shoot. That doesn't sound fun at all.

In short: Your excuse doesn't cut it. Come to the free-aim lobbies, brah..dun be scuured, you wont get that S&*t here.

All my friends and crew play in auto aim... So switching to other lobbies is not a solution for me. That's why I'm wondering if is it posible to play in free aim in auto aim lobbies and others also have to free aim at me?

I know that R* has made being able to join a friend's match easier when he is in a different targeting mode, and then leaving switches you back to free-aim, but i cant quite say if it will let you play free-aim in an auto-aim lobby.

I dont know man, I've been able to convince plenty of my friends to join free-aim only because they know i suck at auto-aim..I have always always played free-aim and it has stuck,

1. i dont like accidental auto-locking on someone who is the least threat.

2. I rather have an easier time getting a headshot on someone as well.

3. Why would i let someone who has never played a shooting game before have an easy time shooting at me?

I'm not saying free-aim is better, everyone has their preferences, I'm just saying that I would be mad at combat-rolling too if i played auto-aim. I NEVER have that problem in free-aim lobbies.

This is probably the EASIEST thing to mitigate and is one of the only things that keeps tradtional/AA from becoming a game of whack-a-mole. If they roll just let go of the aim button and lock back on when they're coming back up or just roll yourself. Preferably both if you're not a troglodyte.

Then killing them with a shotgun or grenade launcher/sticky and getting called a pussy afterward.

they won't anyway , and what if pistol mode only ? . stick bomb at open likely shred you , Think harder . thrown weapons only effective while cover . even you manage pull the pin / arm the bomb , it will drop the bomb if you get killed

I was just pointing out why auto aim exists and is the preferred aiming method on consoles. If the controls were better it wouldnt be necessary but you have to realize that most people dont play 8 hours a day every day. You can become pretty good despite the limitations the more you play, but if you only play occasionally its much more difficult to get good at it and you just die constantly and thats no fun.

Meh.... Auto Aim is the preferred aiming method in R* games.. Not on consoles. 99% of all games have manual aim.

Auto Aim is not necessary in GTA. It never was.

You don't have to play 8 hours a day. You don't even have to be that good. Im not even that good at free aim. I sure don't play FA because of "OMG is takes skill to get gud". I play it because when i move...people miss. Thats exactly the reason most people play FA, because the gun fights make more sense.

Sure.. some people are good. But the majority are NOT. And even if you played 24 hours a day... 7 days a week you will never be as pin point accurate as AA. And if you play AA 8 hours a day the transition to FA is like black and white.

You go from hitting 99% of your targets with the 1st shot, to missing 99% of your targets with the 1st shot.

Now... for the OP to say that ROLLING is cheap is just a joke. Because AA trumps rolling in cheapness.. Auto Aim is the cheapest and biggest joke i've ever seen in online mulitplayer, yet players in this thread are actually saying rolling is cheap? Are you guys higher then me? :D

Unfortunatly for you matey the rolling and all the combat mechanics have been around for ages, they were in RDR and MP3 too. I enjoy it and if it wasn't there you'd have nothing to save you from the full force of good headshooters. Then you'd wanna abolish headshots and all guns but the atuo-shotty.

And I do freeaim too.

You're talking about free roam... the most packed mode in this game. We're talking about pre-game lobbies like this.

maxresdefault.jpg

Unless you're in a free-aim crew or have friends that play free-aim, good luck getting a lobby this packed in anything other than contact missions.

I think they are higher. The point of rolling is to break the auto aim lock, they are just to dumb to understand it and mad because they still need skill to play auto aim.

Free aim is so much better. Everyone should come to free aim lobbies. There ain idiots who would kill u so easily because of auto aim when u just pass them in a speeding vehicle. In free aim u can drive around passing players knowing u most likely won't get killed. All the free roam death matches are so much fun. Everyone tries to be tactical unlike auto aim where u just aim and shoot. In auto aim everyone just stays behind cover waiting for the enemy to come out of cover or in their range. Where in free aim u can move cover to cover or go straight to them (if they are not that good) and knock them out with Ur gun. Oh and there ain those guys u chase in a car that come out of their car around the corner to autoaim and kill u...

There are many full sessions in free aim. I have been playing in free aim for months.

The only downside is there is hardly any jobs with players(I guess everyone likes to stay in free roam)...u can just switch to auto aim and do jobs then switch back when u wanna have fun in free roam. But if enough players switch from auto aim to free aim we would get full job lobbies.

If ur in auto aim just give free aim a go for a few days. You will most likely stay.

Lmfao... I can't believe your crying about the auto lock breaking if someone rolls. God forbid you actually have to aim sometimes. When you get ready to loose the training wheels come on over to free aim where the big boys play.

Pistol mode only? What are you talking about? We're talking about rolling to avoid people trying to run us over in free roam, not some retarded deathmatches with vehicles and pistols. I've been playing long enough to know how to kill people who are trying to run me over, and I've blown up countless amounts of people with grenades and sticky-bombs after dodging them. Maybe you just haven't gotten good enough at cooking grenades or timing a bomb throw, but it's not that difficult to do without killing yourself. I'm not just speculating or throwing out untested ideas and I don't need to "think harder", because I've done it all plenty of times. Or do you just like running people over?

just stand to high climable wall . they can't hit you anyway . to reduce the damage , you need to grew up strength

as far i remember , while i'm in passive mode , tank could not directly perform 1 hit run over

i don't think i ever use bombs unless at bad situation . chill the f*ck out man , why don't you stay at private sessions to avoid gunfight , grief , trolls , wasting ammo & avoid PV get trashed by trolls

Combat Roll - Cruise control for cool in a fight.

Never died due to an "experienced" player mashing buttons like a dumbsh*t and rolling about the place. I normally take cover which prevents their quick lock-kill.

If I play auto aim, I usually kill everyone at a range where I'm basically using free aim anyway. Trust me it's probably the best way to fight against AA players.

Just stick behind the front lines in stealth mode with a silenced weapon, far enough away to where they can't lock on to you. Keep strafing. You'd be surprised how many players even behind cover can be shot to death this way. Sometimes they don't even know where it's coming from.

Anyway....I think the combat roll is a decent mechanic. It keeps people who are in the best cover position from killing the entire opposing team at will imo.

"In free aim you won't get killed when driving past someone"

I haven't been killed when driving in autoaim since November. Reason being I look at the map and see where there is potential danger. No idea why people keep bringing that up, is it that hard to avoid white/pink/red dots? I can easily be in autoaim and not get killed, you have to be constantly aware of your surroundings. Saying that I'm not afraid to die virtually, if I was, I'd go back into freeaim and watch the tumbleweeds go by.

THIS!

There is at most 15 other dots to avoid not that hard.

Here's a tip if you go into a Free Aim Lobby,

As you can tell they're very proud of the fact that they can't be killed as they drive past you. So they love to do this. If you stop for very long somebody will drive by usually beeping their horn....

So throw a line of 3 stickies out and when they drive by say hello for me!

It's about absurd as people who use to jump and crouch at the same time on Counterstrike 2, to make a smaller target of themselves.

Yesssss I love doing this, lol. If they notice, they won't even attempt to shoot back half the time. They'll try to close the distance just so they can lock on.

As my stats shows my rate of success in PVP shootouts is minimal and I only just realised

about the roll move when I saw a player using it last night against me.

Kazandra and Biohazzard Abyss sums up my biggest difficulty in GTA Online that I am never

close enough for the auto aim to lock and my perception skills are not very good at long

distance free aim shooting but then that sums up why I wear glasses in real life anyway. LOL.

Yes.. staying away from white/pink/red dots does make it impossible to Auto Aim said player as they drive by. But thats not that actual point is it?... What about when you do drive by them?

And what about actual game modes..?

GTA races... Players jump out of their cars and camp check points and Auto Aim spray players as they drive by.

In capture players can camp the objective OR camp the spawn points and just keep AA everyone as they try to drive by.

In general Auto Aim is annoying...

The best way to avoid auto-lock while driving by is to not keep your car in a straight line. You'd be amazed how well a little left/right swerve helps in not dying.

As for the topic...rolling is a game mechanic that I've never really liked since using it in Red Dead. f*cking rolling matches. Nobody f*cking does that in real life. What I hate the most about it is when the other player doing the roll shoots you while still in mid roll because they're lagging. f*cking lag.

Well to be honest i always use my Bullet in public free roam. So being shot while driving in actual free roam has never been an issue. Even if i do have to go toward someone i always turn my ass to them anyways when in lock on range..

I mean... I hate Auto Aim.. But anything that helps break a lock on is good to me. :D
