2405 - Never forget

Who here remembers this number, and the craziness surrounding it over the years? I captured the above pic a couple of months ago. Laughed when I saw it.

Hope everyone that was here during all of the craziness is doing well!

The Odyssey

Also the "Balcony Guy" AKA Ned Luke (more commonly known now as Michael De Santa), The "Red Car Guy", CJ was the black guy being chased by cops, people thought the guy at the golf course was Niko and Michael was Tommy. I miss the hype days.

And Adriaan was on a locking rampage with these repetitive threads.

Oh I certainly remember, used to post in the V section all the time back then. Any section of a GTA game before release has a different feel to it and I can't wait till the next one is announced so it all starts again. :)

I'm lost, did I miss something?

So, the first GTA V trailer was released at the tail end of 2011 and people were excited as f*ck. Then we heard nothing, then we heard more nothing. Almost the entire year of 2012 went by with nothing.

Needless to say, you know what forum you're on, GTA fans, including me, went crazy. I started hounding rockstar on the newswire because they wouldn't stop marketing max payne 3 when they knew what we really wanted.

Other people on this forum noticed the number "2405" in the first trailer as the address of one a random house they chose to look at for some reason. People took this to mean that a new trailer or a new screenshot or a new any god damn thing at all (we were desperate) would come out on may 24th 2012. Even I had a BIT of hope, but knew nothing would come out.

And surprise surprise, nothing did. So, naturally, we took this in stride and learned not to glom on random numbers in trailers- HA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Of course that's not what happened. Instead, both this forum and the newswire was FLOODED with comments asking where the news we thought was coming was. The news wire was flooded, this forum had more than one "I'm disappointed in no news today" topic, and even I sent rockstar a few messages on mouthoff saying "Look at what you did, rockstar. This is why you market games we want more". More or less. We were basically a CEO's wet dream, getting excited over not just a game, but the commercials for a game. It was insanity.

And of course for all of those years including 2011 before the first trailer was out, we also had a "Will we see it at e3?" thread.

I got you now, since I obviously wasn't here for all that. I personally never try to look for "hints" in trailers or anything like that, but I know where you and everyone else is coming from. I doubt the date "May 24" which is coincidentally tomorrow, means anything, but it doesn't hurt to have hope!

Is it not a coincidence that this was posted a day before May 24th? PC release confirmed. #preordernotcancelled.

Confirmed.

I will pay factual Somalian warlord dollars encrusted with golden dust for exclusive PC screenshots.

No dude, it really didn't mean anything. The only thing we found it was it happened to be dan houser's birthday. Past that, maybe we got more max payne 3 marketing and that was it.

I might have gotten more involved, but I was busy on these forums telling people why fuel and traffic laws would suck in GTA. No, really, people wanted fuel and traffic laws in GTA. I still can't believe that.

I don't want to remember though. Sure, there were gems in this forum every now and again, but all the speculation, sh*tslinging, and silence was too much. I'm gonna think twice before going to the GTA: Next section of the forums when it does arrive.

Remember the "I think you'll be able to play as chop" threads?

And all the people completely dismissing the idea of multiple protagonists because the GTA series would never do something so ridiculous?

Those are terrible ideas, as I said in another thread, GTA is a game. If I want realism, I'd step outside. :)

I still have the threads bookmarked. Do you want to read them?

Nah, I believe you, and I believe the fact that people want some weird sh*t when it comes to GTA.

Im hoping somewhere, there's a burnt out GTA fan who still believes San Fierro and Las Venturas are coming on 2405, and they have "2405" scrawled all over the walls and ceilings like that one Jim Carrey movie about numbers.

Does anyone else remember the realistic steak joke threads? Those were good times.

I always watch all of GTAforum thread simulator videos when I want to relive these times. (I followed these forums a while before I actually made an account, so I witnessed most of the speculation.)

Capricornus

Those were some epic ass days. Not to mention when R* pissed so many people off with that whole "in a few weeks or so" response. Then the GTA Thread Simulators that were created due to the craziness and stupidity on here. Great times indeed.
