Boycott of Grand Theft Auto

This isn't for the "whiners" and the ungrateful people, it's for the people who have played the GTA series since III and before. It's for the people who have stayed loyal all these years, only to get screwed over by the producer, Rockstar Games.

Part of what inspired this was the obvious attempt (and success) for a mass appeal to all demographic types. The story wasn't gritty and mature, it was really dumbed down, with dry humor and laughable dialogue seemingly for 11 year olds and unintelligent gamers. R* showed they still know how to write a good story with Max Payne 3, released just a year before V. I was really confused how they could create IMO masterpieces with RDR and MP3, only to come out with this as their "masterpiece", then it dawned on me this was all intentional.

"Heists will be released soon" - October 2013. They surely have a blatant disregard for the customers. Without ever giving us a solid reason (or three) why the Heist DLC was delayed, they just keep hush-hush about it like it was never even apart of the online experience, hoping we'd just shut up and accept it and we did. WE NEED TO STAND UP FOR OURSELVES. No more just accepting things as they are. I guarantee, if we revolted, R* would shape up real quick and start catering to the players and their wants (and needs).

I know there are people out there just as passionate as I am, and even more so. If we really wanted to make a difference, we would. Don't let these corporate assholes roll over us and still allow them to make there millions.

As crazy as it may sound:

STOP PLAYING ONLINE

You already paid your money. No longer playing online isn't going to hurt the R* bottomline much.

Also been playing GTA longer than III. Not once have I felt screwed over by Rockstar. Them's the breaks.

I think you have a point but another problem they have is their game constantly freezing. 5 weeks now. Can't even get online, whatever way I try.

All they seem to do is point the finger at our broadband, our consoles and our discs.

Their support center should seek help from another support center because they fail imo.

You get my +1 but due hugely to the way rockstar handle themselves.

They come across as very arrogant and unhelpful.

Guess in my case rockstar boycotted themselves as I can't even get online and have now given up even trying to bother.

A friendly of mine in gta has also done this. Wonder if maybe it would be an idea to get some numbers of just how many people have

had these sorts of issues and now do not play.

Just to see how bad it actually is.....

Can't really boycott, my crew mates would get lonely.

> Makes a thread about boycotting Online

> Says you can't boycutt online in another boycutt thread.

Wat?

Yes. I only typed what came quickly to mind, but this is one of my biggest beefs with them. Edited by BrokenLizard

Wat?

I was making that thread as in "what if". Just because I talk about boycotting doesn't mean I'm doing it.

Gritty & mature was never their goal except for IV.

Regardless of all the violence & several genuinely emotional moments, there's a lightheartedness & "good times" feeling about the entire III era, all 6 games of them.

Was it dumbed down? Yeah, you could say so in a way; the story was definitely made so casuals or first time players wouldn't get confused, even if the price for that was that by the end no one felt really all that memorable. I can recite to you every III era character & mission name along with memorable lines and moments, but with V I can't tell you anyone besides the pro/antagonists.

Lolwut? MP3 is far from a good story. Compared to it's predecessors it sucked. If anything, R* proved that Sam Lake should always be the one to write Max Payne.

Damn, do heists really mean that much to people? I personally see them as cut/beta content at this point, akin to Niko's fingerless gloves, Tommy's bullpup, GTA III's Darkel missions or CJ's skateboard. They weren't really anything special in SP nor the actual focus of the game inspired by Three Leaf Clover like R* said (Hell, f*ck 3LC, I prefer To Live & Die In Alderney). Also, they don't need to tell you anything; you're not a shareholder nor a CEO.

The game is fine as it is; adapt & try to make the best of it or sell it & never support another game again...

You have thrown your money at them. Not playing Online will just 'hurting' yourself. If you want to stop supporting Rockstar, just keep playing Online, but don't buy Cash Cards, upcoming DLC and the next games made by them.

GTAMYBABIES

I read the first paragraph. Laughed. Then didn't read the rest. I been playing since the first one and I don't feel screwed over.

Besides it's their game. If they were to make it something I didn't want to play I'd stop playing and find something else.

Thanks for an actual, smart reply.

All of their games had a gritty feel IIRC. Even RDR. And MP3 had a great story, something older people can relate with. Although I do think MP1 and 2 were better. But you can bet I won't buy another R* game, that's for damn sure.

GTA IV was the first GTA game to actually try and be mature and gritty, though. The 2D and 3D eras were much more lighthearted but still more grounded than Saints Row.

I wholeheartedly agree.

Not really.

III was bleak, not gritty. it was very much an early SR2 in terms of over-the-top & fun (meaning you faced impossible odds & did so much absurd sh*t yet still always had a good time doing so because R* weren't so grounded in reality with it).

Advance was just as bleak as III.

VC was flashy

SA was basically Menace II Society meets Casino blended with a rags-to-bitches story.

LCS was every Mafia tribute in the book.

VCS...well, VCS is basically IV without the grit. The stories are incredibly similar though.
