TIL what the symbols on the minimap checkpoints mean.

Ever noticed how some of the checkpoints in a race when you see it on the minimap have a sort of arrow point in one direction or the other, whilst some are just full yellow?

 

This is an indicator of elevation change. If the arrow points up it means the checkpoint is located at a higher elevation then your current position, if it points down it's at a lower elevation. If the icon turns full yellow, you are looking for a checkpoint at the same elevation as your current position.

 

This is a good way to know whether or not there will be any sudden changes in the elevation and whether or not to adjust your speed accordingly.

I think they had that for player indicators in GTA IV. Anyway, that's also the case in GTA when flying, there will be relative height indicators on a player blip.Often objective blips have a relative height indicator too.
