Creating Land Races

Whoa....whoa...whoa there, horsey.

The people in that thread are extremely nice, genuine people and don't have any sort of elitism about them. They have a very good eye for what is desired by the vast majority of racers.

If you want to know how your race holds up, they're the ones to go to for input....but, only after you make a race. He was just pointing out that you should have an idea of what YOU want to make, what YOU honestly believe people will want to play. Asking an entire forum, "what kind of race do you like?" isn't going to get you any sort of concise answer.

 

 

Dude I came here asking the community for prefs not how to create a race.

In the same way, if I wanted to create music for the masses I would ask and research the people to find out what makes them dance and then I would mix that with my own style and ideas.

The last thing I would do would be to ask a producer or a group of them on how they make music.

 

The people in that thread have their way of determining whether a race gets approved or not. Most likely based on specific guidelines and standards they have set up. That's great, more power to them.

But you see I work in a different way. I have to start creating with all options open, no guidelines. I might work my way into a particular "box" of thinking as opposite of completely outside the box but not necessarily so.

Further more, I do believe a race could be fun, enjoyable and challenging without going through their approval.

 

I'm sure they are nice people but I think you are well aware that I wasn't talking about those people.

 

If anyone wants to know how their race holds up they should take a look at the amount of plays and rating it gets compared to what's already out there.

Makes more sense to me than asking self-proclaimed "experts" don't you think?

 

 

What I'm saying, and you can see for yourself here, is that you're not going to get any good ideas from this forum.

You're going to get things ranging from: All highway to sidestreets only.... from offroad on path to offroad with no path.... from mixture of streets and highways to something with unique jumps and challenges. Your going to get all different answers because everyone likes different things. Hell, even the same people like different things if you ask them at different times.

 

Surveying the masses is something that you shouldn't do as a creator and you should create something that you enjoy and already have a good feeling that people will enjoy it as well. Led Zeppelin and The Beatles didn't go out and ask their fans what they wanted to hear from the next album because the fans don't know what they want until it's given to them.

 

A lot of people create amazingly good races yet nobody will ever play on them because people are scared to try new user created races. If said person doesn't have a lot of friends or a large crew, then said race will never get enough plays to grab attention of people like you. Which is sad. Some of the best races I've played have only been raced a dozen times or so.

Yeah I totally changed my mind about silly races after racing them with friends last weekend. I thought it would be horrible but it was a lot of fun actually.

I hear you. And while I'm aware of these things and agree with you on some points I still like to put the questions out there.

This is because my experience tells me that people who are not necessarily creators themselves or familiar with the tools being used think up all kinds of crazy sh*t.

 

I say crazy sh*t because many times you can't use this information as a blueprint to create something. Because of the different limitations in the tools being used etc. But sometimes you can use bits and pieces of it and other times someones idea just makes you think about an idea of your own. And while The Beatles may not have asked their fans I'm sure they picked up on influences from sources outside of themselves.

 

Edit: I want to rephrase myself. Everyone is a creator. What I really mean is people whom in the moment I'm asking is not in that particular state of mind or mentality.

Haha that Golf Cart Manslaughter race looks like total mayhem. I can tell by the voices in that video that you are a bit older, like me, than the average gamer, if there's such a thing.

Anyway, I think simple is a keyword to keep in mind regarding fun races.

Simple but well thought out with a clear plan and theme works best for silly races. I love regular racing as much as the next person, but sometimes just driving laps on the roads palls and I need to break it up a bit.

Older by numbers but age makes us young again doesn't it Just in a different way. I'm in the mid 30's myself.

I understand that there are tons of created races out there already, most of which are bad or just stupid. I'm also aware that a fun race won't change anything but I'm still gonna try to create one.

Hopefully the community will see Rockstar breathe some life into the game by releasing better missions and other sought after content that the community wants. I don't think it will happen but if it does I can always come back.

 

Your sarcasm is completely misdirected. As you well know I'm not Rockstar. If you think the game needs something else tell them, don't tell me.

 

 

Are you saying my races are crap? ha! ive made 116 races, you clearly havent tried one, here, add them to your game and you will have all you need to do what you want, i got straight up speed races, stunt races, jumps, grand prix's, funny races etc etc, you name it i have done it and none are crap according to the votes on them.

Was I talking about your races? Out of the tens of thousands of available user created races 116 or even 1000 good races still mean that there are a lot of bad ones floating around which is what I said.

That means if your races are good according to the votes I wasn't talking about your races.
