Creating Land Races

I was about to give up on GTA:O but after playing FOS V3 & V4 I feel a creative spark and I'm gonna use it to create some races.

I will tag these races #gtaforums once they have been created and published.

 

First of all, I need to know what type of race you guys prefer? Land, sea or air?

 

If your answer is land, what kind of races do you enjoy most? Offroad? Highways and straights? Technical courses with sharp turns? Stunts or a mix of everything?

If you can name a race that you like that's even better.

 

I will let this thread run for a while and then based on your feedback begin creating and testing.

 

 

Also if you think you know something I don't about the creator - The do's and don'ts or other tricks, please let me know.

I understand that there are tons of created races out there already, most of which are bad or just stupid. I'm also aware that a fun race won't change anything but I'm still gonna try to create one.

Hopefully the community will see Rockstar breathe some life into the game by releasing better missions and other sought after content that the community wants. I don't think it will happen but if it does I can always come back.

I want all 3.

For example, I would like to race boats to the helicopter pad then race the copters to where our PV's are waiting somewhere for us to finish the race.

I think it would work if it was a GTA race and they tweaked a few things.

Having to decide if you are going to try and jump your boat next to the copter or just run for it. Will you land your copter next to your car or parachute down to it?

I think it would be fun and it would add a lot of action to the races

The sarcasm was properly directed.You know, as someone who claims to be so race-savvy I have to wonder why you wouldn't either give him some tips, like he's asking for, or direct him to the threads detailing how to create high-quality races, rather than just being a cynical jackass. There's also another option where you just don't even post anything at all. Regardless of how you feel about it, someone attempting to add to the forum in a relatively postive way doesn't deserve to be sh*t on, imo.

I can't say I really care either but I do like seeing people getting involved in racing because I enjoy it too.

GP style land races are my favourite, with varied types of corners (wide, tight, chicanes, hairpins etc).

Land races, some jumps over crates or whatever, walls on the track you have to dodge then some off-roading. Make it about 3 or 4 miles. Super cars. Always wanted a race with a ramp that you needed to hit just right to be half-way up a hill then onto the dirt road.

 

Yeah, I'm sure there are a bunch out there, but I think quite a few of them could use improvement.

I created a pure race track, called Del Pierro Circuit. No jumps, no guns, no turbo lap race that can be tricky. Can't just barrow through everything. I find it harder to create a real race track than the 5 mile straight followed by a mile high jump.

 

MTTP- I prefer races that require someone to actually have driving skill. Like being able to break into a turn and accelerate out consistently to win. Air races need a lot of obstacles, like buildings and bridges. Boat races are just bad until they give us proper offshore racing boats.

The people in that thread are extremely nice, genuine people and don't have any sort of elitism about them. They have a very good eye for what is desired by the vast majority of racers.

If you want to know how your race holds up, they're the ones to go to for input....but, only after you make a race. He was just pointing out that you should have an idea of what YOU want to make, what YOU honestly believe people will want to play. Asking an entire forum, "what kind of race do you like?" isn't going to get you any sort of concise answer.

Hold up on Luap he is a good race creator and is a part of the creator community. He was being sarcastic but it was nothing to flame him about.

 

If op really wants some tips then op should go to the subsection dedicated to creators. That is where you can find tips and find people that are like minded as well.

 

Also op you mention there are a lot of bad tracks out there. We'll that's why we made approved track threads. So people can judge/recommend them to others. There are plenty of threads for tips in the cr re at or section as well. Just search and look. Luap and others have posted valuable info so that we don't have to tell everyone every time they ask.

Only advice I can give is make a race you would enjoy, spend a good amount of time on it and the quality will show. I've only made 1 race but I took my time and it's been widely liked by the people who've had a go.

Dude I came here asking the community for prefs not how to create a race.

In the same way, if I wanted to create music for the masses I would ask and research the people to find out what makes them dance and then I would mix that with my own style and ideas.

The last thing I would do would be to ask a producer or a group of them on how they make music.

 

The people in that thread have their way of determining whether a race gets approved or not. Most likely based on specific guidelines and standards they have set up. That's great, more power to them.

But you see I work in a different way. I have to start creating with all options open, no guidelines. I might work my way into a particular "box" of thinking as opposite of completely outside the box but not necessarily so.

Further more, I do believe a race could be fun, enjoyable and challenging without going through their approval.

 

I'm sure they are nice people but I think you are well aware that I wasn't talking about those people.

 

If anyone wants to know how their race holds up they should take a look at the amount of plays and rating it gets compared to what's already out there.

Makes more sense to me than asking self-proclaimed "experts" don't you think?
