I think you're all a bunch of babies. I highly doubt any of you have experienced what it takes to commit a violent act. Most of you would probably cringe at the sight of blood yet you're so quick to judge.

I've studied exactly what you're talking about though.

The key here is, does "digital" violence "cause" behavioural problems. Just like back in the '80s when they blamed Dungeons and Dragons, the answer is simply no. The propensity to take life is either already present in anti-social behavior or programmed in the case of environmental situations. The latter situations would include things like gang activity practicing violence or abusive desensitization. You have to remember that the problem is not training someone how to kill. That part is easy. The trick is destroy the moral fiber of the human being to the point that life doesn't matter. They have to destroy the empathy and sympathy for their victim. That's a very tough cookie to crack. For instance, I know how to sky dive, but it would take someone pushing me out a plane for me to actually do it.

The reality is that the game can't do that. If that was true then manifestations of violence would've been associated with watching Bugs Bunny, Power Rangers, any Arnold Schwatzenneger movie, or when Ozzy Ozbourne release a new album and we're just not seeing a significant change in violence based on these different iterations of violence over time.

The reason these correlations have been made on several occasions is because of uneducated people seeing a person who has a propensity for violence, by nature, watch violent movies and play violent video games. To say that the video games are the cause though would mean that you have to see a factual causality over a linear curve of users. For instance, violent movies and video games are popular. So ask the millions of people who bought DieHard and Gears of War if they have ever "planned" to commit a violent act. Then the real question is, did you have that plan before or after you watched the film. That's the trick. You'll find the numbers are insanely low and therefore the causality is not the games or the movies, but a underlying preexisting condition that was not properly diagnosed. That diagnosis is also the problem because even if someone likes horror movies and violent video games also doesn't mean they have a propensity for violence because even of those groups the numbers are again insanely low. So now you're wasting money registering innocent people. Smooth move idiots.

Lastly, registration is the dumbest idea I've ever heard. What freak'n retarded person wants the government looming over them playing video games! If you voted on that as what you would like to happen then you really need to get up from behind your video game and start reading a book. In fact, any book. Stop watching television too because you're just the kind of person that is more dangerous than the loops that are playing this game and you may even believe those voices in your head are someone else.

If you want kids to act like kids then treat them like kids, which is an adult problem. If you want kids to be adults then treat them like adults by giving them good examples. They are only going to know how to act if you show them how.

The last question is also biased.

I'm not a big fan of the bible (or any other organized religion for that matter) either, but at least the main focus of it is morality.

I thought the main point of it was control of the weak minded. Thats really what religion is.. Its all bullsh*t.

I mean what morals? Incest... God kills everyone... More incest.. Rape.. Some more rape.. Murder.. More sex....More murder...Thats the bible. And the funny thing is its told to kids as fact mostly.

f*ck it... Id rather learn about the morals of GTA. :D

You know it be true.

Yeah I agree it's not all pretty and it's very outdated, but your view of the bible is very biased if you think it's just about sex and violence.

Or people just play the game for fun and don't take everything so seriously as a life lesson like everyone thinks?

That's the whole point... kids take everything they see and hear as a life lesson.

What kind of kids are you around?

Some don't even listen to the sh*t their parents tell them a million times, and they will listen to Trevor Phillips?

bit of a pointless exercise posting a poll about the playing age in GTO, on a forum populated by lots of squeakers who can vote that they're not a problem.

bottom line, rules are rules and irresponsible parenting allows kids to play the games they're not old enough to play.

regardless of so called maturity, you don't have 15 yr olds driving around in real cars on the road irl,

should be no different with games that contain adult content aimed at adult players, and adult players should not have to put up with kids playing the game with them.

that's what the game ratings and laws are there for in the first place.

throw the responsibility onto the parents in a method that affects their finances or future decisions and they suddenly start paying attention to what their kids are doing.

I'm not saying that. I'm just saying it influences them in one way or another. Kids are shaped by their environments and what they see and hear. I'm referring to the fact that the biggest parts of our personalities as an adults are formed when we're kids. When we're adults we become better at seperating fact from fiction and it becomes easier to take things we're shown in the media with a grain of salt.

Actually, in America, you can start driving at age 15 (with someone older who has a licence)

Well that's not necessarily because you're an adult, it's because you're a mature person.

Being 18 doesn't automatically make you mature, and vice versa.

I have a question for those who suppose that video games have serious real life consequences for minors. I have seen it said in this thread that violent actions were caused or influence by the game. If you suppose that this is true, then how do you reconcile the fact that violent media is becoming more pervasive, while violent crime is at an all time low*?

*I'm speaking US only here. I've no idea of the statistics for other countries.

That is an interesting viewpoint actually. By global standards, overall violence is down considerably but I think a lot of that is because of technology making wars more decisive, faster and will fewer loses. Information and technology is not always bad... for instance the more penetration the net and media make into the middle east areas and African nations the more the oppressed sexes and races are standing up for themselves.

There is also the fact that most people in leadership of nations are still of my generation or older and were not raised on video games...hell I got my naughties off sears catelouge underwear sections lol. As the next generation starts coming into power...having been raised on internet and then thier kids comes into power having been raised on even better access and BY parents who were effected by internet access I fear the world in in for some changes. Some good some bad.

As for the individual violent crimes being down...I dont know, maybe better policing maybe tech stopping things. Maybe more people just feel they are smart enough to know they will get caught. One thing I want to clarify though is that I dont believe media intake is going to turn a normal kid into a rapist or murderer...those people were already f*cked up or were messed up by abuse or trauma or whatever.

When I speak of media effecting children it is along the lines of attitudes, manners, morals, and social limits. The things kids believe and say to adults, the way they treat people...in my day I would have been punished...these days parents just say Stop that Timmy if they say anything at all...when those kids grow up and have kids it will all step down into the sh*thole even further as they dont even think anything is wrong with thier kids screaming racial or sexist slurs at thier screens. Those people who feel they were playing games at young ages and look at me I turned out fine...are the same ones calling people c*ntbags, harrassing members or players, griefing people and enjoying it, not understanding why hacking or cheating is bad. It is a steady decline of society.

And for the guy that mentioned the movie Idiocracy...exactly!! I truely believe that some form of that premise is where this world is going if something isnt turned around. But as usual the house needs to be on fire and the hydrant too far away to reach before anyone considers addressing new hydrants.

Oh of course. 15 year old kids can be more mature than a 30 year old. There's not a lot of mature 8-10 year old kids around though.

so what you're saying is, they can drive with supervision from someone who classifies as an adult.

that age in the UK is/was 17, not looked at that for too many years :)

The last question is also biased.

It doesn't matter if it is biased, which it isn't. There are two distinct options that people can choose. The people have answered, and we have revealed that kids are more problematic than adults in Grand Theft Auto Online.

We want to treat kids like kids. Which means we want them out of our digital playground for adults.

It's for people over the legal age of responsibility, therefore kids need to get out and play outside with a football with their friends.

Your argument is ridiculous. You' sound like you are saying that video game ratings don't matter because they are games. That's stupid. I can't believe you think it would be a waste of money policing video game ownership, especially when many countries have to spend money on people who cannot be assed to work and expect others to pay for their healthcare and education. They don't deserve any money.

You know what is a waste of money? The palaces that the Church own. They are one of the wealthiest organisations, yet they still hold back money despite the fact all that money should go to helping people.

Also, please tell me the violent acts you claim to have so much knowledge about. I've lived in various parts of Eastern Europe, so I have seen and took part in my fair share of violence. People don't plan real life conflicts.

When you're confronted by armed drunks down an alleyway, the things you do to survive are not planned. Under pressure and threat, anything and everything becomes a weapon. Broken glass, barbed wire, your own hands.

You better make damn sure that they come off worse in the end. I'm not proud of some of the things I have done. The scars remind me everyday. But if I have to decide who it is going to be, it won't be me who suffers. I will decide how and when I leave the earth, no one else.

So, before you start assuming everything and pretend to be some of psychiatrist that knows everything that goes through a child's mind, please rethink what you are going to say. The poll has revealed how many kids are scared of no longer being able to play adult games in the future, as well as how many people want their game back for what it is. A place for adults to convene and have fun.

You wouldn't let a child in a strip club, so why should our community let kids play this game which states you have to be a certain age to purchase it?

Verifying one's age via bank accounts or government databases is taking it quite far lol. In my country when you're in a bar with a cigarette machine you need to walk up to the bar to get an 'age coin' before you're able to buy cigarettes. The machine won't work without one. These coins are free and available to anyone over the age of 18. I think the same principle could apply for games. Go to a gamestore, show your ID, get a free 'age card' or something and enter the code on your Xbox/PS. From there on out you'd be able to play games rated 18+.

I don't know if I would be in favor of something like this though, I'm just saying there's an easier way to verify age than to consult the government. Although I can't quite decide if I am concerned about kids' well-being or if I'm just annoyed by the squeekers online. Probably the latter. I really couldn't care less what these kids play offline to be honest.

The problem with this is that parents would simply give the age coin or equivalent item to their kids.

And to clarify, the government checks was an example, not the only thing that could be imposed, hence why I said "etc."

They could, and many would. But it might put some parents off because now it's not just a tiny label on the game, it's an actual seperate purchase just for age verification.

regardless of so called maturity, you don't have 15 yr olds driving around in real cars on the road irl,

should be no different with games that contain adult content aimed at adult players, and adult players should not have to put up with kids playing the game with them.

that's what the game ratings and laws are there for in the first place.

throw the responsibility onto the parents in a method that affects their finances or future decisions and they suddenly start paying attention to what their kids are doing.

Actually, in America, you can start driving at age 15 (with someone older who has a licence)

so what you're saying is, they can drive with supervision from someone who classifies as an adult.

that age in the UK is/was 17, not looked at that for too many years :)

yes correct. An adult who has a licence.

Bitter old people need to realize that despite ESRB rating, video games are marketed to children/kids/young.

And with that I will also add that I've heard adults talk sh*t online more then I've even heard children speak.

Pathetic adults do all the sh*t talking in my game experiences. Usually white, but I won't hold that against anyone.

No, it's the choice of the parent. The ESRB/PEGI/whatever is a recommendation for the parents and it's their choice if they want to follow it.

No, GTA won't have a negative effect on a normal, healthy child.

Also, I've had more people over 18 calling me vulgarities than children.

If you have a problem with children playing "your game" mute them, kill them, and move on.

My good friend, your words may in the name of the almighty Lazlow, be written down in the Holy Scrolls.

Oh, are we the little politician. Probably a liberal as well. So you are now the leader of this little group and what your tiny margin has said must be law, not because it's the actual consensus but because it works in your favor. No, you don't have to call me flawed, we can see how flawed you are. Secondly, this isn't your playground and you can't kick people out. If you don't like what you got then leave! Nobody is keeping you hear. You can play Invite only with your elitist friends whenever you would like. You'll find a lot of the "we" you reference could care less.

No, it's not ridiculous. And yes, they don't matter. I'll prove it. This game is rated not playable by kids and guess what... they are playing it. My point is proven and yours delusions are floating away. So I, an informed consumer, somehow needs to see a sticker that says the game is bad when it's a game called Grand Theft Auto? Are you mental? Don't insult our intelligence. The second you put a sticker that says it's a Rate R game kids will flock to it like a moth to flame. It is actually counterproductive. All of this is proven, just look it up! Any educated person would know.

As for the countries spending money on people who can't work or heathcare or what-ever... irrelevant. And if they do have such a burden then why would you want to labor their burden more by giving them pointless work that would be fruitless and is unquestionably unpoliceable or would make innocent people criminals. You're punishing innocent people and I can't support that as that is the definition of insanity.

Feel free to lambaste the church, but they got their money through other means. Don't like it? Don't support it. But this has nothing to do with this and especially since the church would probably be more on your side about this. So get off your soap box. Man you are clocked!

Again, your area is environmental and again, you are just proving my point and showing me that you weren't paying attention to what I said more that you just want to argue and disagree for the sake of disagreement, but I'll digress for you.

I'm not really sure how you ended up in an alley with a bunch of drunks, but that's beside the point. So lets say you have a bully at school. At first he takes your lunch money and beats you up. This could happen a couple of times, but suddenly you learn to fight back. So he shows up with friends and then you feel your life is threatened. Environmentally you are being abused and desensitized to violence. Let me make one last point. WHAT THE HELL DOES THE VIDEO GAME HAVE TO DO WITH THIS!!! WTF.

I think I've proven that I am smart, I am a psychiatrist and mostly that I'm more intelligent than you. Which is really all I wanted to get out of this.

This poll doesn't show how kids are anything. It shows a couple of couch bound warriors opinions and although I need their input when it comes to this game I won't be asking them about world peace any time soon. It's nothing personal.

None of these.People under 18 should be able to play. It's just a game and the content isn't exactly something most teenager's don't know about. But I really don't think young kids should be playing it.If your 14,15,16 yeah it's ok but definitely not little kids. And age doesn't matter when it comes to douchebags.Douchebags will be douchebags, regardless of age.In fact kids will usually give up quickly but guys in their 20s tend to be far more committed to griefing.

uh... I don't care what other peoples children do. I play GTAO in front of my 5y/o (sometimes) & he thinks the game is about delivering car so I can race them later, flying airplanes, & sky diving. if he hears a NPC swear, he asks me to turn it down or off because it says bad words.

kids are assholes. adults are assholes. GTAO is just the place they meet up.

don't act like your concerned for these "squeakers." the fact is youre upset that you got owned by a person that you feel is lower than you because of age.

we should also keep children away from the public. I'm worried that my kids gonna be homeless when he grows up because he sees homeless people downtown, & might want to be like them.

SP violence is impersonal and predetermined by the developers. MP violence can be targeted, cruel, personal, degrading, not to mention that there could be are sexual predators in GTA:O that would prey on younger kids and make the excuse that they weren't targeting children, because they ASSUMED children aren't allowed to play the game. It's a weak argument, but so is NAMBLA's policy.

There are also players that deliberately target children and grief them into rage-quitting. I can only assume anyone here that says that over 18s are worse than minors for swearing etc., have been a victim of such online abuse. I bet a lot of people that suffered online abuse then mimic it, because that's how you become a tough guy on the internet. THEN that attitude goes out into the public and you get kids, like the ones on the Maury Povich show, as I showed earlier.

Little sh*ts, that think they know how to use swear words properly and scream "1v1 me, fa**ot", and spam you with DMs, until you finally humour them and blow them into the next suburb... then continue to kill them after that to make your point and then they leave the session, only to piss someone else off. Granted, it's funnier online than it is IRL, because I can't kill them IRL.

P.S. People who dress like this and want more clothes like this (and that damn bike) in GTA updates need to be added to the front of my Sandking. I bet they want the hand gestures, too. Speaking of hand gestures, you can smell the maturity of players you're with, when they choose docking and thrusting.

Parent's choice. Yes. Under 18 are the worst.

While kid's aren't going to grow up stealing cars and shooting people because of GTAV, the children are typically playing during a time in their life that they're developing their people skills. Their mannerisms and speech are highly effected by this game and I could see someone who plays GTAO easily being rude and inconsiderate to others much more than the same age child who plays basketball with his free time instead.

What does NAMBLA stand for?

North American Man/Boy Love Association. What are you, 12? I thought kids knew how to use the google.
