Rockstar messed up with the radar

I was online last night racing as I usually do. Unfortunately some NPC placed a 5k bounty on me so when the playlist is done I spawn on a beach with other players around. I dash to the road (installing the game on the HD has saved my life so many times) because other people are spawning but not alive yet. Once I'm by the road I quickly dial Lester and request off the Radar and then I get in a normal looking SUV.

Just as I'm driving out, I see a buzzard show up and looking for business. He's obviously looking at all the cars driving by as he saw me go off radar and knows I'm there but doesn't know which SUV I'm in so I'm driving my SUV all casual on the highway trying to match the other cars and drove right underneath him and he never knew who I was. He shot a couple random SUV's and cars passing by but fortunately I wasn't one of them. As soon as I was out of sight I gunned it back to my apartment.

A white dot would have ruined that experience and I so wish the GTA world was more populated with more NPC's that do more random crap, like shopping / stealing and stuff so we can blend in with them. The 1 minute lester timer simply isn't enough to enjoy the aspect of hiding in plain sight.

off the radar is already good enough for 500$

in gunfights on foot it's really unfair, and 1 minute is more than enough if you just want to gtfo

IMO it's balanced... maybe a little close to being too good, but still okay.

off the radar in passive mode = 5 mins.

just a thought.

Maybe off the radar and you would set an amount of time and pay the cost multiplied.

1 min - $500

2 min - $1000

3 min - $2000

4 min - $4000

5 min - $8000

I think that would be reasonable given how you sometimes need patience to be able to run away from a tank or something.

This makes no sense, you think information that the Rockstar server sends to your console through the internet has anything to do with the game, which is already been running, on disc or HD?

you should be able to go off radar for more time...

i'd be happy to pay 10k for 5 minutes off.

Yeah the game files load faster off the HD than they do reading off the disc. It isn't rocket science.

good idea but one min is really long, I got in a car and then was half way across the map, and best part was I was being followed on foot while on passive and escaped with one minutes radar time. you can escape in under one min as long as u don't crash

You can go off the radar with a bounty?

Yes.

Now, about installing the game onto your HD... how does one go about this? Curious, Kracus. Mind sending a PM?

The "blips" have always been a bit of a pain for me. I've learned to use them, though, to snipe, stalk, and hunt out other players, especially from rooftops and stairwells.

Of course, I still fall victim to players who employ the same tactics as I do, though. lol!! ;)

I like that idea but any time over 1st should cost a lot more

that pliot is foolish, obviously.if he flew his bird lowly,he can see you.

He was quite low, almost low enough to touch the top of the SUV when I drove under him. I just drove like a normal NPC character so he didn't suspect it was me in the car and he COULD see me, he just didn't know if I was an AI or a real person because my blip was hidden.

Installing the play disc to your hard drive will actually increase loading times, not decrease them like you seem to think it will.

R* lets see 5min off the radar for 100k each time, 500k to skip refresh. Trolls will Jump on those cash cards.

Off the radar has saved my ass on more than one occassion. Just last night I got away from a crew that was trying to " teach me a lesson". 60 seconds is more than enough to make a tsctical retreat...without it I would have quit the session...7v1 sounds fun...at first.

Dude I timed it, it's about 20 seconds faster.

Not only that but it makes perfect sense, HD's load stuff faster than any optical drives can since forever.

You might be thinking of the texture pop in issues caused by the way the game installs but that was patched and isn't really a problem for me. However, when loading into the game from a lobby it's way faster. Period.

well, yes it IS rocket science, since its not THAT simple. yes, a hdd is faster, but isnt the hdd already maxed out with the installation? than the bluray would help towards faster loading times.

i dont know!

-is a hdd installation the same as the digital purchased one?

-does an SSD make it even faster?

-is the normal installation the perfect balance between hdd and blueray reading-time sharing?

-does the online loading time depend more on the internetconnection or on your installation?

-lets google that

I'd be all for HUD-less lobbies.

I think that's how it should be. Once you're a white dot on the map, everyone just goes for you and it's unrealistic, yet people argue that mental state is okay when shooting pedestrians. It's like having your cake and eating it too which is why everyone is blistering red. It's the same junk in LTS versus Death Matches.

When you get a bounty you show up as a red dot for a minute and when you pass a player with a red dot they appear for a short time on your radar, just like in a Death Match. So you can still hunt them down.

You could use the same thinking for Mental State. So if someone get Psycho they would flash as a red dot on your screen for a minute. You could also have it do that if they were carrying a gun or something, but only when you're near them.

When you play the game at any time an NPC who is s threat will appear as a red hollow dot, yet regular civilians don't show up at all. Why not have it the same.

Well it's simple to me because working with this type of technology is what I do for a living. I'm not using blu-ray since I'm on xbox but regardless, HD loading speeds have always been faster than any disc based system. I'm sure you can find an ancient 20MB drive that loads slower than a current tech blu-ray but that's stretching the truth. The reality is a hard drive will always load game assets faster because it doesn't have the optical drive bottle neck. Hard drives can spin thousands of times faster than any disc drive can thus resulting in faster read times.

GTA V has 2 disks that come with the game and on xbox you have to install the second disk. I believe the second disk has all the game assets, like textures and in game models and the second disk has a lot of the game engine mechanics / music / dialogue and I'm sure some other things. I know when you install the first disk it writes it to a different section of the HD causing the HD to have to go between two different sectors to load each aspect of the disks. This caused major issues right after launch but they patched that since then.

I would be happy if it were kill based instead of time based. Meaning, the time is unlimited, you go off the radar, you stay off the radar for as long as you are in that session. But, as soon as you kill another player it wears off. That way you can stalk a certain player, or escape from the city, browse the sights, look for rare cars and such without having to worry about a time constraint. And so that nobody can scream 'unfair', the second you kill another player or switch a session it wears off. Simple, and everybody wins.

None of this is even close to being as bad as the radar being completely cluttered by blue sh*t that I never ever use. It's nothing short of ridiculous that they put all that crap on there.

That is a real good idea.

Reminds me of how passive mode now turns off when you kill in a vehicle.

We're talking about an ONLINE game here, you're still communicating with Rockstar's servers, exactly the same as everyone else is...when the loading icon is on, your console is waiting for Rockstar to tell it what to do next

So, why is this topic about the radar being messed up if it's just your "I got away using off radar" story?

Also, installing this game to your HDD may be causing adverse issues in game. Try installing it to a flash drive instead. The game will still stop spinning in the tray as to avoid damage there and it won't have so many objects glitch in and out of the map.

You obviously have some misconceptions. Just because a game communicates with a game server doesn't mean the stuff the game loads isn't from your console. The bulk of what you see in the game when you're playing is loaded from your console directly. Pretty much all in game assets are loaded locally, streaming that data over a network would make the game unplayable.

I suggest you do some reading on server side processing vs client side processing to get a better understanding on how installing a game locally to your HD will result in faster load times over using an optical drive. I'm not going to reply to you again but just keep in mind I've worked on games for the xbox 360 as an indie dev. I work as a technical analyst for the government. IE: I fix computers for a living and I've been doing this for almost 20 years now. I'm not trying to pull the "I'm an expert so trust me" card but seriously...

I've actually taken the time to calculate how much data is transferred in an hour session of GTA V to the rockstar servers. It's actually a lot more than most games I've played but I think voice chat accounted for a large chunk of that data. Either way, transfering 8+ GB of data over a network every time you load is a completely ridiculous concept and no where near reality like you're describing.

I'm not sure if it was fixed but R* did say not to install the 1st disc to your hard drive as it causes textures to load slow and pop in.
