Giles Flaggot 1
I admit my first glance dislike for Franklin, but seeing him interact with his auntie made me realise the guy was just caught between 'a rock and a hard place' Listening to his auntie's taunts and the way she reminds him of how much of an under-achiever he is, and then seeing his facial expression afterwards, I realised the kind of character he is. He's just had the bad luck of living in Strawberry with a demanding family member and failing to live up to the bitch's expectations, and a half-retarded, 1992-gangsta-throwback loser named Lamar, constantly trying to get both of them killed out of stupidity Claude on the other hand was a mute, no background that we knew of. Besides, what would Claude be doing in a big mansion all by himself?
poland stronk
It's a personal taste who you like more but taunting everone with statement that "Franklin is worse than this mute guy" is shallow. Claude as I see him is a person with no regrets, ready for the worst and with no complaining. If you want to murder fifty people because one of them insulted your wife, he is your man for the right price. No background history and no voice is not a big problem with me. Why would I want to know who this guy is? I am the one who will make him do things, I will be the person who kills those simulated people. R* stated that making him mute was to make it better for players to relate to him, to feel like him and make it more personal. Franklin on the other hand is the most normal compared to Michael with his cynicism and family falling apart thanks to his actions, and Trevor and his psychotic break-outs. Frank is just a guy who knows what he wants and acts reasonable. Just because he is not waking up in a dress up in the mountains or is not arguing again with his family does not make him bad character. He is not showing unneeded emotions and takes action only when someone makes something really stupid or when he has a chance to move up in the food chain. He wants to get out of poverty only to realise that money makes life easier but it does not fix all problems. I would rather say that with the main story focused on Michael trying to sort things with FIB and Trevor, Franklin is left in the shadow and needs badly a DLC that will develop his character and show him in different situations. But like I said it's personal taste who likes one of them more. I pick Claude because of my good memories with GTA III that bring nostalga. Franklin needs to prove himself yet because he didn't have time to shine in the game that was focusing on everone else but not him. Still I respect them both unlike Niko Bellic. Capricornus
I remember pre-release, everybody worshiped Franklin because he was an ICE COLD KILLA FROM DA HOOD. Fast forward about 9 months after its release and you got those same people saying how much they didn't like him. EVERYBODY worshiped? What an overstatement. I am pretty sure that he was one the most hated/least liked protagonist and probably still is. As for the actual topic, I use Franklin the most but I have to admit that R* did a horrible job with his character development and back story. It really seems like he was thrown in at the last minute. If Franklin had the mindset of Tommy V he'd be one of the best GTA protagonists of all time. Hopefully this upcoming SP DLC will do him some justice, but I doubt it.

PlayboiX™
I like the Franklin character because he is the most relatable to me. I totally relate with having to deal with a bunch of ghetto minded people who think if you try to better yourself, that makes you some kind of sellout I do agree though that rockstar did a poor job of developing his character and his relationships with the other 2 protagonists There is so much more depth in Michael & Trevor's relationship compared to their relantionships with Franklin. But maybe that was intentional since M & T go way back and Franklin is new. They still could have done a better job of developing Frank as a character archiebunker

CalgaryJay
I liked him until he moved to Vinewood, which happened waaaaaaay too fast. This. I wish they at least still let us use his aunt's house as an alternate place to save or start from. Love hangin' in the hood with him, but its annoying having to drive down from Rockford Hills to do it every time. Michael already has Rockford Hills covered anyway, why on such a big map, do we need 2 of our 3 characters living basically down the street from each other? Tikhung
Franklin was a joke IMO. I thought he would be cool, but in game he is just a Bitch Boy. I never play as him anymore, hate the dude. Him and Luis Lopez, the 2 worst protagonists in a GTA game. IMO, even Luis is better than Franklin. At least he smiles sometimes. Franklin is just a whiney kid: "OMG you guys are idiots get out of dis bullsh*t" "Nigga, nigga, nigga plz" "I'm drunk, but, sh*t i ain't getting drunker" Franklin's story: Franklin: "I wanna get out of da hood" Lester: "Here's a giant house outside of da hood" Franklin "Thx" God this makes me laugh so much... im_stoned
'' I didn't buy a cab company to become a cab driver'' That was the best one liner franklin said all game. I was playing with my friend and we were both sick of the business's at that point we had more fun doing often things so it was really epic to hear that franklin felt the same way. We had a good laugh and looked at each other and said '' aint that the truth'' that redeemed franklin a lot in my eyes. It was nice to see him stand up for himself and tell someone what they needed to hear

Fast forward about 9 months after its release and you got those same people saying how much they didn't like him. That is actually sensible... The main reason I defended Franklin was because racism annoys me. It annoyed me when people would say they don't want a black main character in GTA, because they don't like the ghetto culture, because they don't identify with it because they are white. I do think Franklin is the weakest protagonist in the game though, and it is exactly for the reason that people gave. Because he moved out of the ghetto soon and became boring as hell. If he would've stayed in the ghetto, he could've had good character development. But his potential was wasted. Mister Pink
I like Franklin. I like GTA V. I think it's brilliant but.. Franklin and Lamar was just Luis and Armando/Henrique all over again. Black guy wants to move on from gangster stuff to make better life doing other gangster stuff with smarter and whiter people. If Rockstar had some sense they could have done a story like Stringer Bell and Avon Barksdale of The Wire. For anyone who hasn't watched The Wire, Barksdale is the kingpin in the Barksdale organization. Stringer is his right-hand man. Barksdale is a soldier and lives by the street in a gangster way. Stringer starts taking economics classes and thinks they can do their drug empire without petty gangster street violence. Stringer believes he's beyond that and gets in bed with property developers and politicians. As Barksdale puts it....paraphrasing.. stringer is a man without a country. He's not hard enough for the streets and just not smart enough to be getting in to bed with the likes of Clay Davis (politician). Obviously, this causes a rift and I wont spoil what happens. This sort of dynamic and take on drug dealing and building a drug empire would have been amazing. Fast forward about 9 months after its release and you got those same people saying how much they didn't like him. Looking back at Franklin's individual trailer, Rockstar most certainly implied that he would be exactly what you described. It also implied that via his story, we would be getting a great deal of explosive gang and hood action in the story. Let's be fair here, all of this was implied, it's not hard to see why so many people looking forward to Franklin were fooled and left disappointed. Rerxelend
Adrenaline? I don't even think his special ability makes sense. He rarely talks about driving. Seems to have zero interest in it. True dat, while playing the game I always think that the driving ability would've been better suited to Michael, middle aged man with an Audi is probably a more proficient driver than a 20-something gangbanger. But then again the street race concept is more suited to Franklin, so there ya go.
FranklinDeRoosevelt
Why cant we get a black character who ISNT trying to get out of the hood for once Wait....what? When was the last time we had a black character who tried to get out of the hood? CJ was the last black protagonist 2 generations ago, and he did not try to get out of the hood, he actually returned and wanted to bring back the way Grove Street had originally been before he went to the east coast. Also, he came back to pay respects to his dead brother and mother.
