Gutslab
If I sound like an ass in the following post, I'm sorry. So as we all know, the forum has had issues all day. Sometimes it works, then it goes down. Seems to be a pretty consistent cycle. Yes, I know there is a red message which indicates there is an ongoing issue. My suggestion is (or maybe was, as it could be too late) why not just close the forums down until the problem is completely fixed? I see it like this. If the forum was just shut down, I might be a little frustrated but my reaction would be reasonable. "Ok, so gtaforums is having maintenance issues or whatever again? And they have to turn the forums off? I'm ok with dat. No surprise, I mean that's happened many times before and it won't be the last. We'll move on. By now, we're used to this kind of stuff." But instead, it's like this "What the f*ck, are you serious? The long post I just submitted made didn't make it because the connection timed out or the web page didn't load?!" After the third time this happened, I just gave up. But it's addicting, I keep checking on the forum now and start getting into a posting mode but then have to remind myself, chances are high what I post or pm won't ever reach it so I shouldn't even bother. Each time I'm able to connect to the forum, I think "Oh cool it's back to normal. Oh wait, no it's not. f*ckkkkkkkk." *MURDOC*
Sounds like a personal problem. Maybe try some self control, or save the long posts until the forums are working better? Or just save a copy of the post to a text file before you attempt to post it? These all seem like better options to me than just shutting the forums down completely. Tank
If a major issue affects everyone globally, we do take the site(s) offline. But that's the last resort - obviously our aim is to keep the site as accessible as possible. In this case the issue was localised - only certain parts of the world were affected - so it seemed unfair to prevent access to people who could access the sites without problems. We feel the message at the top of the page was a good middle ground - people were still able to access the site where possible, but those that had intermittent problems had confirmation that the problem had been acknowledged by us and we were working on it. Like Murdoc has mentioned, if you were writing a large post, the best thing to do is use a text file in these situations. This is the best thing to do, before you try and post a topic that is long and detailed select all and copy it that way in case something happens you still have the text and didn't loose it sometimes pressing the Back Button will take you back to the post and all the text will still be there but it's best to copy your text prior to clicking "Post" *MURDOC*
