Please elaborate that point. What exactly will adding manual transmission benefit, apart from griefers because you won't be able to get away as quick?

If you know how to drive manual you will understand it is faster than automatic as you can change gears quickly, it will also add the ability to drift properly in game/take corners really nicely cause you down shift then up shift into the turn and finally it allows for downshifting during races which would allow cars to hit their top speed

I know what manual gears are, I'm not 9 years old. Downshifting etc all depends on you being able to hear the car and the rev range it's at, also, how would you know when to change gear without being able to see the rev limiter?

It's a given that a rev limiter would have to be included with manual transmission and you can hear the sounds well enough for anything else

You're forgetting most games with manual transmission, don't have traffic, cops and everything else in them.

Any chance rockstar would add this in your opinion? I hate racing with automatic cars....it just feels so stupid

If you want a fun racing game, you're in the completely wrong direction if you're looking at GTAV.

Also, not possible because GTAV doesn't account for gears. You drive, and a soundfile plays to make it seem like you're going up a few gears, and gets progressively slower until reaching max speed where the soundfile won't progress further (which solves the unlimited gears issue games such as Saints Row and Sleeping Dogs have). When slowing down, there is no downshifting, the sound just cuts out.

So although they have a fancy soundfile, gears don't actually affect the handling of the game. When you go up a gear, your car's engine doesn't stop for a second, it just carries on as if there's no gear change at all. It's even more noticeable if you turn the sound off.

tl;dr GTAV has no meaningful gears, it's just a soundfile that plays to give the illusion of gears.

Reality has traffic. Having it as, once again, an OPTION would be great. Not mandatory. Therefore, if you don't like it simply don't use it. Why would anyone even have a real issue with it?

Really? I never would of known. Thanks for letting me know reality isn't a video game. But in all seriousness, driving a manual in reality is more difficult than pressing a few buttons to change gear. Not saying it's hard, but it's more difficult... in case I need to walk you through that explanation. I feel as if you're just trolling.

Dude all your posts are just minor bickering.. I really wish they would add an option for manual transmissions, racing would be much much better. For someone who knows how to drive a manual it would be an advantage not a crutch vs. those in an automatic.

Everything's there for it to happen, all cars go through their gears and can even see the car rock back when it's shifting.

Since there's two buttons for the ebrake, ditch the A button and keep it at RB, replace cinematic camera mode to the back button with all the other camera options and then use A and B to shift up or down. Hold down one of the either two buttons to disengage the clutch. Release the held button and quickly tap again to continue shifting.

If they put this as an option we'd actually be able drift and non-contact races would be based even more on skill.

That is completely false. You can notice how the cars don't accelerate once they hit rev limiters. Plus there are mods for previous GTA titles that give you the manual option on PC.

We're discussing manual transmission in GTA V, not how much harder a manual car is to drive than an automatic one, in REAL LIFE.

IMO, I'd ditch cinematic mode and keep the handbrake at A and change weapons to RB. X to downshift and B to upshift. Viva la forza!

Yeah, I want a GTA with manual transmission as much as the next guy, but I'm just stating why it won't happen.

Drive a car with volume off. There's no gear changes, it'll just slowly speed up until reaching max speed.

Aside from the technical reasons why it won't happen, look at GTAV's handling and treatment of cars. You really think they care about fun, physics based handling?

You can see they cared with IV, but people didn't like it so the game is geared towards casuals now.

If you watch you can see the car's weight shifting when the gears are changing.. Even the torque from revving the engine shifts the car's weight, you can watch the body twist. The physics are actually very well done. When you force downshift and hit your rev limiter you don't accelerate anymore until you hear it shift too.

And anyone who's playing with volume would easily be able to tell when to shift by ear. You learn what pitch the max rev is and learn to shift right before it.. not too tough. And for those who play on mute can just turn the option off.

Manual shifting would also help prevent that pesky traction control I feel when trying to drift or peel out.

For starters. Manuals for the most part "In America" come at an option, but rarely does that option get selected only a small minority come with ONLY a manual. In fact you could probably count them on your hands. GT500 comes to mind and i think the CTS-V Wagon does too.

Secondly, just like how ALOT of people nowadays rather drive automatic for their own preference, R*'s judgement is that ALOT of people can't be assed to shift gears and shoot a gun out the window all while avoiding the cops. Besides, that's alot of buttons to push at once anyways. Maybe there is something coding wise that would prevent it like how would you change weapons now that x and b are used for shifting.

I used a script mod made by one of the members here for GTA 4. I just edit one of the switch case loops within the if/else nest to make mine blip the throttle slightly when I downshift and dip slightly when I upshift for realism. I mapped the game to run on the xbox controller with X being downshift and B being upshift while the rest of the buttons remain unchanged.

Boy do I tell you. Racing on mount akagi just became a whole lot more fun on that day. So fun that I had to mod the script even more to work with my clutch and shifter on my G25. (3 months of work with my friends on visual studio, totally worth it.) Even though the clutch isn't translated to analog. I can only get the script and game to work on digital signals.

The clutch would serve as neutral. It works by detecting if you rev the engine before releasing the clutch while in first. If you don't you'll stall. Now this part was difficult. My friend mostly did this part. What pissed me off is that when I did it, the clutch would make the car default to gearstate 0. So even if i'm in the first gate, I'll still be in neutral. My friends program worked fine. I guess I messed up somewhere in the if/else part.

Manuals are sadly a dying breed in real life

Are you being serious? Does this only happen in America then?

Everywhere else around the world seems to be doing alright, but I guessing since most Americans don't know how to drive manual then there's no need to make as much manual cars.

No they're not.

For the most part yes.

lolwut? I thought most super cars irl today are still manual.
